Hi! I've used 9 every now and then for two years now, and its pretty awesome.
Rio however, I feel needs a friendlier, sleeker look. Like hi-res image display

Where's the FAQ for this newsgroup? Thanks.
It's almost as if the accusations that 9front in some way undermines the core
philosophies of Plan 9 are not motivated by facts, but more invented in the
minds of people who just don't like 9front people being in charge of 9front.

One Plan Nine?
Sure, we have the historical version of the Bell Labs/Lucient codebase,
preserved as 9legacy, but yeah we have one currently developed branch of Plan 9
called 9front. Are you proposing that to be called “Plan 9 from Bell Labs 5th
edition”?
To be serious though, when has monolit

Come, come, Vester. Please don’t introduce false premises under the guise of
calling them out. I never said that. 9front as the official Plan 9 would be
pretty absurd.
I never said it was *the* development branch. It is *a* development branch. I
could even imagine that it may in fact be the mos

This is my point exactly in one sense. In your example, there were al
Hej Eli,
I think, philosophically, there is a disconnect re: the status of 9front vs
9legacy by 9legacy folks. Even David suggested that 9legacy is “real” Plan 9,
rather than a fork. Fundamentally this is semantics, but it leads to seeing
them as fundamentally different things, when they really

Oh please. You think Cinap is some sort of charismatic demogogue of 9front?
Yeah… he’s not
Yeah, don't switch for simple tools like mothra, but as you learn
more, there are strengths to both.
I ran the "9miller" Pi version for a bit and as a retro computer
collector and old software junkie, I enjoyed myself, but I played with
VMs and then got some baremetal installs of 9front going.

There is certainly a variety of opinions of what means what, but generally
speaking:
9legacy: Continuation of Plan 9 from Bell Labs v4 with patches and fixes
9front: A close fork of Plan 9 focused on using and developing Plan 9 systems
on modern hardware as a rolling and continually developed sy
