Those are terrific ideas. I'm going to get in touch with them. I'm thinking the winterfell nodes (I know them well ... ) could be very good for NIX testing. I registered with sdf.com, I'd like to learn how to work with students on some of these projects. Starting off, I could use some code review

In Ron Minnich's ftq README there is this: Plan 9 support is deprecated because nobody cared, and the default Plan 9 timers still suck. Has work been done in this area? What is to be achieved? -- Thierry Laronde http://www.kergis.com/

I think where we are trying to go, would be to delete the nix/386 directory entirely and make nix work with the 9front pc directory. That might be worth trying first. Another option, before that, is to use the 9front ip directory in nix. The main changes we made in nix were the k8 and port direct

Plan 9 timers were never very precise, although /dev/bintime might be better now. I'd be happy to see a forward port of ftq to Plan 9, I don't think it would be hard. On Sun, Jan 19, 2025 at 3:57 AM wrote: > > In Ron Minnich's ftq README there is this: > > Plan 9 support is deprecated because

There are numerous extensions (and even fixes), descendant from the ones used in the Nix sources and present in: https://github.com/0intro/9k 386/ It seems to me that this should replace the ones in sys/src/nix/386 (that are dragging behind) but trying to keep the history. (Diff'ing, I see only

Hey Ron, I did ping Lance (Ramereth) on #osuosl:irc.libera.chat, so we'll see what he has to say once it's morning time on the west coast. I wonder if we could extend this to the Beaver Barcamp (The Oregon State University Unconference), and get more students on plan 9 🙂 Cody On 19/01/2025
