Those are terrific ideas. I'm going to get in touch with them. I'm
thinking the winterfell nodes (I know them well ... ) could be very
good for NIX testing.
I registered with sdf.com, I'd like to learn how to work with students
on some of these projects. Starting off, I could use some code review
In Ron Minnich's ftq README there is this:
Plan 9 support is deprecated because nobody cared, and the
default Plan 9 timers still suck.
Has work been done in this area? What is to be achieved?

I think where we are trying to go, would be to delete the nix/386
directory entirely and make nix work with the 9front pc directory.
That might be worth trying first.
Another option, before that, is to use the 9front ip directory in nix.
The main changes we made in nix were the k8 and port direct
Plan 9 timers were never very precise, although /dev/bintime might be
better now.
I'd be happy to see a forward port of ftq to Plan 9, I don't think it
would be hard.

It turns out I'm bad at responding to mailing lists, see quoted message!

There are numerous extensions (and even fixes), descendant from
the ones used in the Nix sources and present in:

It seems to me that this should replace the ones in

Hi everyone,
just asking if someone plans to go to the chemnitz linux days (Chemnitzer
Linux-Tage) this year (22./23.03.)? I'm considering going there. Could be a
place to meet.

I have started gathering notes and references about Nix, including
(and mainly) from the mailing list, in order to put everything
together (I will add, hopefully, original content by working on the
code too à la Lions commentary).

I could also join, hey, fun little round!
Should we apply for a community/project table? No idea if that is still
available.

Nvm, too late, unless we send a ton of cat pictures

There is enough space upstairs usually where we can sit together.

We have a long-standing relationship with OSUOSL, who are excellent, since
shortly after we launched. They provide the US hosting for downloads of the
historical ISOs and we also have an internal “dev“ system on their open stack
infrastructure. We are very grateful to them for their continued su
since you touched this topic in the past and unlike me have some experience
with it:
given the current multicore hardware architecture, DMA, inter-core,
inter-socket latencies, how precise do you suppose should one try to make
timers in the first place? and how far from this are we?

I'm thinking about it for next year, if we can organize it. This year it's
already too late.
