[Wireshark-dev] Why does the SCTP submenu appeat twice?

2016-06-11 Thread Jaap Keuter
See subject.

Only in the Qt version, in both Analyze and Telephony menu.
Also where's the Chunk count gone?

Thanks,
Jaap

Which version are you using? I cannot see it running v2.1.1rc0-3-gd907fc2
on Windows.
Do you have any Lua plugin adding menu entries?

Cheers,
Pascal.

Re: [Wireshark-dev] Why does Telephony|ANSI have a Lua submenu?

2016-06-11 Thread Jaap Keuter
Hi,

Version 2.1.1-git (v2.1.1rc0-21-gc755c88 from master)

On Debian Testing.

Tried moving the (old) existing init.lua from my settings
(~/.wireshark/init.lua) aside, and placing the current version from the repo
there. Now it's goneto double entries in the Lua menu.
So, something changed, I'm not sure what.

Also, the GTK version still complains on startup in the console:

(lt-wireshark-gtk:23241): Gtk-WARNING **: Refusing to add non-unique action
'/Console' to action group 'MenuActionGroup'

(lt-wireshark-gtk:23241): Gtk-WARNING **: Refusing to add non-unique action
'/Evaluate' to action group 'MenuActionGroup'

(lt-wireshark-gtk:23241): Gtk-WARNING **: Refusing to add non-unique action
'/Manual' to action group 'MenuActionGroup'

(lt-wireshark-gtk:23241): Gtk-WARNING **: Refusing to add non-unique action
'/Wiki' to action group 'MenuActionGroup'

Thanks,
Jaap

Presumably it has nothing to do with Telephony :)

Well it does, it's the main protocol of SIGTRAN.

Good to know. Then I guess that's why, even if it is a bit surprising.

Re: [Wireshark-dev] Why does the SCTP submenu appeat twice?

2016-06-11 Thread Jaap Keuter

Well, it's surprising it was added (again) the analyze.

Historically all items in Telephony were in Analyze, which became too long to be
practical. Therefore all Telephony related items were grouped in their own menu.
This included SCTP.

Thanks,
Jaap

So is SCTP a telephony protocol, or is it a protocol intended for general use
that's currently primarily used for telephony?

If the former, I'd put it under Telephony.

If the latter, however, I'd put it under Analyze.

The latter. It was initially developed in the SIGTRAN working group but
then moved over to the transport working group (I believe that happened
when it was realized that it really was a general-purpose protocol).

I'd /guess/ it's still in the Telephony menu for people expecting to find
it there.
