[weewx-user] Re: How long will an SD card last?

2024-09-09 Thread Karen K
There were some comments about UPSs some posts before saying they are not
really necessary. And when I read the post of Michael.K I remember another
thing. It were not SD-Cards or RPis, that failed repeatedly, but LED lamps.
So we measured the grid voltage in our home and recorded the readings
during one year. It turned out, that it was always near the upper limit,
and sometimes even above it. We then complained to the electric power
supplier company and presented our measurements. They reacted very quickly
and changed the settings of the transformer. Since then the voltage is
within the limits. I guess this can influence the lifetime of the
equipment, too. I know, there is a power supply between grid and RPi that
transforms the voltage. But it cannot always filter all peaks of
overvoltage.

There was the question how to put the country borders and the coast line
below the radar data in the example. I asked the KNMI for that, and they
replied immediately. So I updated the wiki page with HTML code and an
example picture.

This is really interesting. Can you get underlaying geo features, like

I did some further investigations, and I ask one of the weather services
for that. If the server that provides the readings does not provide geo
features, you can use any other server to get that additional information
as long as you specify the same bbox, width, height and crs parameters.
There is an example in the KNMI wiki page
,

and you could even use their geo feature server as it covers the whole
world including U.S. Use the GetCapabilities request to get a list of the
layers and their names.

Re: [weewx-user] How long will an SD card last?

Yup. Bad power and writes are a bad combination. Surge suppressors help
there.

I simply put /var/log into tmpfs and other than writing the archive db and
html files once per 5 minutes there are no writes to disk at all. You do
lose the logs on a reset but it's a minor thing. Typically you don't ever
look at them.

I typically add this to /etc/fstab on all my pi and have never had a
failure since. You do sometimes need to add something to rc.local to make
subdirectories under /var/log that daemons expect (/var/log/nginx to name
one) but that's minor stuff.

# put logs and tmp dirs in ramdisk ---
tmpfs /tmptmpfs
defaults,nosuid,mode=0755,nodev,noatime 0 0
tmpfs /var/logtmpfs

There is no alltime template that comes with the Standard skin, so if you
have one in hand, you must have obtained it from someplace else. If it
follows the same pattern as the "day", "week", "month", and "year"
templates, and assuming it is named "alltime.html.tmpl", and assuming it is
located in the same place as its cousins, and assuming it is mentioned in
skin.conf, then I suppose you would add a button for it on the bottom of
index.html.tmpl template. In that case, the bottom of index.html.tmpl would
contain something like this

where the highlighted line is added.

But, there are a lot of assumptions there. You'll have to give us a lot
more details to be sure.

Re: [weewx-user] Min/Max

2024-09-09 Thread gjr80
I seem to remember helping you with this a few years ago, if you are still
using the Standard skin this thread
 may
help. You would have to work through manually to reconstruct your page, but
I guess that is the price you have to pay. If you are using/intending to
use the Seasons skin then that link will be of limited use as the Seasons
skin works quite differently.

Of course. For example, the tag

 *$alltime.outTemp.max*

will give the maximum temperature ever seen.

It's all in the *Customization Guide
 *, in this case,
 section *Aggregation periods
 *.

 Be sure to read it.

Monica, you are being very vague. Which previous version of the

Don't know what you mean by min/max at the bottom. None of the
WeeWX skins include a min/max of anything along the bottom. Maybe
 along the
 side? And, min/max of what?

that.see what I mean about being (well) over 60! I will work through
it. I have found in my backup files alltime.html and
alltime.html.tmplbut have not had time to look into them yet!

Tell me about it, almost but not quite there yet!

alltime.html.tmpl is what you want, hopefully it's a recent copy. While
you're looking see if you have an old copy of index.html.tmpl, it will
likely have the code that added an 'alltime' button to the bottom of your
main page, but if not that one is an easy fix.
