RE: ZYWRLE for RealVNC/Free/Win V4.1.2 is now available!

2007-02-07 Thread James Weatherall
Hello Noriaki-san,

I had taken a quick look at your patch file and noticed that the files your
patch adds appeared to have our copyright notice, which is entirely
reasonable if the files are, as you say, significantly based on one of the
existing encodings, but that they don't credit you. I'd recommend adding an
equivalent line in addition to our notice, both to ensure that you gain fair
credit for your work, and to ensure that people know who to contact if they
have comments on the code.

Hi Mark,

It sounds like your VNC Server is simply configured not to acceot
connections, to be honest!

What port numbers are the RFB & HTTP ports set to in the Connections tab of
the VNC Server's properties?

RE: Hello, running 3 monitors from a virtual machine

2007-02-07 Thread James Weatherall
Hi Josi,

Current Xvnc builds export each X screen via a separate VNC Server, so doing
as you suggest below will do what you want. You can then access the screens
through ports 5900, 6900, 7900, etc.

RE: Print screen dose not work on RealVNC window.

2007-02-07 Thread James Weatherall
Hi Alan,

In current versions of VNC Viewer for Windows, special keys such as the
Windows keys, Alt-Tab & PrintScreen are passed to the server computer. To
disable this, simply go to the Inputs tab and un-tick "Pass special keys
directly to server".

Cheers,

Yes, I was asking how can I reboot the computer with a VNC function
(because I got the password prompt only), but it is not integrated. I
think it's a lot better to restart the computer (rather than the VNC
service only), especially considering the crappy memory management of
Windows OS, and applications' interactions' problems.

Re: server closed connection unexpectedly

2007-02-07 Thread mailing
*** MY SOLUTION ***

Since the RESTART command-function is not VNC-integrated (and because I
don't want to buy rip-off KVM-over-IP!), I finally found something that
works:

http://www.codeproject.com/csharp/remoteshutdownsubmission.asp

(you will need to create an account on the website to download the ZIP
archive. I will try to send the file via this mailing-list in the next
email, but I doubt it will be dispatched...).

Brief introduction: C# written software, that:
- listens on a user-defined port ;
- uses a user-defined password (will be SHA-1 encrypted) ;
- awaits for REBOOT instructions! (even though the soft is called
RemoteShutdown).

How to use it: from any computer in the world, you can make a telnet on
the distant machine "TELNET ip port", once connected type-in your
password, as you press enter the machine reboots!

Security consideration: even if the password is SHA-1 encrypted on the
remote machine, it could be sniffed from an unsecured network (but who
does that anyway??... a tiny packet in a ocean of data...).

Installation:
- create your config file with makeconfig.exe (from a CMD prompt),
defining your password and listening port ;
- install the service with installutil.exe (from a CMD prompt). This EXE
is already in every computer, on my Win2k it was in:
C:\WINNT\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727 ;
- run the service (from Services control panel).

Definitely a feature that I would like to see in the next releases of
VNC(as an add-on service?). Until then, enjoy this soft.

OK, I understood. We should have responsibility for our code,
as you say.

I fixed them:

 * The files used by ZYWRLE only:
   * zywrletemplate.c : our copyright notice only
   * ZYWRLE[Encoder|Decoder].[cxx|h] :
   insert our copyright notice into the below of yours.

 * The files used by both ZRLE and ZYWRLE:
   * ZRLE[Encode|Decode].h :
  1. insert our copyright line same format as yours(line 1)
  2. insert the following TightVNC style notice into the
 below of yours.

/* 'ZYWRLE' VNC codec homepage on the Web:
   http://mobile.hitachi-system.co.jp/publications/ZYWRLE/
*/

 * Other files : not fix.

Are they OK?
