2006-08-01 Thread Marco Goebenich

Hi!

I won't only watch TV, I planning to use my vdr to record. But what I am
asking me, could there most channels recieved digital via (DVB) or are
there only analog signals.

I'm not in Washington, but getting channels in the US is basicly the same
everywhere. You need a TV that can work with NTSC signals insted of PAL. You
should be able to find some stations with just some "rabbit ear" antenas
that mount on the back of the TV. Or find a radio shack near you and get an
antena to put on your roof. The sales man can tell you whcih way to point it
and what channel numbers to expect to get. Then flip through the channels.
Should at the least have the 3 big old networks, CBS, NBC, and ABC. Don't
know what numbers they will fall on there. For cable you will likly have to
subscribe.

Hi!

Can somebody located in the US near Washington D.C. tell what US-wide
tv-channels are broadcasted there, I need to know channels that
broadcast mainly news/information.
If you also can tell me how to recieve those channels (in Washington D.C
via cable/satellite) it would be nice.

Or does anybody know a page where a german can find out how the US tv
market works with all ist's local stations?

Re: [vdr] [Offtopic] US Television (near Washington D.C.)

2006-08-03 Thread Marco Goebenich

Hi!

Do you really mean DAVIC, as I read as much manuals as I could get, it
seems, that DAVIC is a standard for MHP, or digital internet services
with a back channel over cable modems.
I found DVB-C and OpenCable as the two standards used in the US, and it
seems that Comcast uses OpenCable, but I'm not sure.

Are there some PC-Tunercards for OpenCable with CI Interface to record
Comcast's digital programs with pc?

And if which CAM would I need?

Or a completly other direction, if not using vdr, how do americans
record digital TV with their PCs, as I think of Windows Media Center
software, or something else.

For me it seems, that only a few people in the US use digital TV.

Marco

Hi!

One more question: Does anybody know what format does comcast send his
digital programs over cable, I saw that they offering some digital
packages as pay channels.

The limited FTA channels in DVB-S (Satellite dish) stopped me buying such
a card. Also DVB-T won't work as USA doesn't use that standard (ATSC).
Neither will DVB-C as they don't use that either!

[vdr] Viaccess Cam Update

2006-09-01 Thread Marco Goebenich

Hi!

I got a problem while receiving TF1 (TPS France). I can tune to this
channel, and then view the channels for about 20 seconds, but after that
the stream stops, the screen is somehow distorted, if I switch again to
TF1 I get the message "No right to watch" and the channel is never shown
until I do a CAM reset.

My Viaccess CAM has firmware version 1.07, and I tried to update the
firmware to 1.08, I tried vdr-1.3.38 and 1.4.2, but after the message
"Please do not extract ..." no further messages are shown, in the manual
for updating the CAM they tell that the update should need 30 minutes, I
had this channel tuned about 2 days and nothing happed. No progress
messages, and no update. After reinserting the CAM the firmware version
is still 1.0.7.

Can anybody tell me what to do, to get TF1 working again?

Regards

Marco

Re: [vdr] TF1 problem [was: Viaccess Cam Update]

2006-09-05 Thread Marco Goebenich

Hi!

Thanks or your answer!
First how to find out which Smartcard I got, I can't find any label on
the card and the vdr CAM setup doesn't show something about X or W models.
And second, the TPS card worked without problems until some weeks ago, I
thought there has been an change in the encryption algorythm and
therefore I thought I have to update my CAM, but that does as described
not work.

Marco

Hi!

This would not work while my original TPS receiver has only a slot for
the smartcard, not for a CAM.

Has nobody else problems to receive TF1?

Am I the first person who tries to update CAM firmware with VDR?

Marco

Take your CAM, put it on an official TPS receiver, tune on it to the specified
transponder, wait... and take your CAM back to your VDR box...

I haven't tested it, but I am quiete certain it should work :-)
