It is not clear if the maintainer has stopped working on it, but from an
outside view, the plugin appears to be orphaned.

The code doesn't compile on amd64 and distributors (such as e-tobi) have
collected their own set of patches to keep it alive.

You might want to try Joachim Wilke's patched version of the lcdproc plugin.

Afaik, he fixed that. (Didn't try it myself, yet, though.)

[vdr] The issue of orphaned plugins, addons and patches (Re: pvr-input)

2008-06-17 Thread Hanno Zulla
Hi everyone,

Simon Baxter schrieb:
> Good searching!!

No, I just checked vdr-wiki.de, they have an extensive (but German) list
of plugins plus patches and current maintainers.

http://www.vdr-wiki.de/wiki/index.php/Plugins

Which leads to a related topic.

It appears that several plugins and addons are orphaned, despite having
a lot of users and despite developers still releasing patches.

What to do about these packages?

There is a lot of work right now for package distributors, each of them
maintaining a different set of patches for their respective distribution
(analogtv is an example).

For some projects, there are patches flying around in this mailing list,
on vdr-wiki.de or even in obscure discussion threads on vdr-portal.de.

Some patches are published by new developers on their homepages (the
pvr-input and lcdproc plugins are examples for this), but if you ask
these developers if they want to declare themselves the "new maintainer"
of the plugin/addon, they thankfully decline.

So it appears that we have a problem with

1) too many vdr-related projects dying or being orphaned when the
   original author looses interest

2) noone daring to pickup the ball when the original author looses
   interest

and

3) too many different locations to find sources and patches

What can be done about this?

(If this has been discussed before, please let me know where to find it
in the archive. Didn't find old discussions about this after a very
brief search.)

Hanno

Yes, I'm already using that. I believe helped Joachim beta test the
patch =) Although I'm not sure that the patch I got from Joachim is
exactly same as on his homepage, but I'd suspect so.

It's working marvelously! Although, I noticed that messages in VDR
(from external commands, or stuff like "VDR sammuu myöhemmin" transl.
"VDR is shutting down later") have ?-marks instead of the scandinavian
letters aka. umlauts. But I've been too lazy to report that back to
Joachim =)

[vdr] Failed to read channels.conf after adding transponder

2008-06-17 Thread Udo Richter
Hi Klaus & list,

Today I had an unexpected parse error in my channels.conf, in this line:

Test Feed;Test Feed:10920:hC56M2O0S0:S19.2E:22000:0:0:0:0:0:1:1063:0

The line was added by automatic transponder scan yesterday. The 'bug' of
this channel is that the SID (4'th last) is 0, triggering
tChannelID::Valid() to be false.

By now, the channel is announced correctly like this:

Test Feed;Test
Feed:10920:hC56M2O0S0:S19.2E:22000:601:0:0:D02,1815:20351:1:1063:0

The core problem however is that the channel was added without
completely checking validity first. Adding a check for Valid() to
cChannels::NewChannel() probably solves this issue. (not tested)

Until this is fixed, its probably a good idea to disable channel updates
for VDR systems that run mostly un-monitored. (Holiday season is near!)

Cheers,

Udo

Due to this bug, my VDR didn't start today and I missed an episode of
DORA. I have no idea how I will explain this to my kid tomorrow...

Is there an easy fix I could test right now? Can I disable the

[vdr] Test Feed crashes vdr 1.6.0

2008-06-17 Thread Patrick Rother
Hello.

For some days there i a new "Test Feed" channel being found automatic
new channel scanner of vdr-1.6.0:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/etc/vdr# tail -1 channels.conf
Test Feed;Test Feed:10920:hC56:S19.2E:22000:0:0:0:0:0:1:1063:0
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/etc/vdr#

After this channel has been added to the channels.conf automatically,
vdr doesn't get up any more after the next restart with the following
syslog output at "-l 1":

Jun 17 19:53:27 black vdr: [9340] ERROR: channel data results in invalid ID!
Jun 17 19:53:27 black vdr: [9340] ERROR: error in /etc/vdr/channels.conf, line

Is there any patch to prevent vdr from adding an invalid channel?

Thank you.

[vdr] latest xineliboutput cvs and HDTV

2008-06-17 Thread gimli
Hi,

anyone know how to kontakt the xineliboutput developer ?
The latest cvs is, at least for me, completely broken
for watching HDTV. I get only audio. Video Stays black.
Using some cvs revisons back works fine.
I use VDR 1.7.0 + Reinahrds patch.
