Re: [vdr] [Offtopic] US Television (near Washington D.C.)
Hi! Do you really mean DAVIC, as I read as much manuals as I could get, it seems, that DAVIC is a standard for MHP, or digital internet services with a back channel over cable modems. I found DVB-C and OpenCable as the two standards used in the US, and it seems that Comcast uses OpenCable, but I'm not sure. Are there some PC-Tunercards for OpenCable with CI Interface to record Comcast's digital programs with pc? And if which CAM would I need? Or a completly other direction, if not using vdr, how do americans record digital TV with their PCs, as I think of Windows Media Center software, or something else. For me it seems, that only a few people in the US use digital TV. [vdr] softdevice: audio device selection
hello, i have a little question concerning the audio device selection of the softdevice. i'm running vdr 1.4.1 with softdevice 0.2.3a. my tv card is recongized as: bttv0: using: Twinhan DST + clones [card=113,autodetected] with frontendend: DVB: registering frontend 0 (DST DVB-T)... and my soundcard is a: C-Media CMI8x38 PCI they are all recognized by my kernel v2.6.17. my commandline is like $vdr -P 'softdevice -vo xv: -ao:dummy'. but, for my tv-card has no audio out, i would like to get the sound out of my soundcard. the example commandline "-ao alsa:pcm=plug:spdif#ac3=plug:spdif#" doesn't work for me, i think because there is no spdif... other experiments didn't work either. and i didn't find any information about this alsa device stuff. but there must exist, cause running xine with vdr-xine plugin i get sound out of my snd-card. here some takeouts of my syslog: ... [vdr] Re: softdevice: audio device selection
thats quite sure. the only way momentarly getting the softdevice running is with "-ao dummy:". without it, it complains about: "[softdevice-audio] Playback open error: plug:spdif, Invalid argument FATAL exiting". for my understanding, it gets ac3 audio stream from the tv-card, and tries to open the default audio, spdif in this way. i just must redirect it to the right device, but which one? i'm searching for a command line containing somethings like "-ao alsa:pcm=plug:spdif#ac3=plug:spdif#". as one can see, i've tried several "plugs" like spdif, default, line and front, but none worked. i've searched some time the net, but nothing found explaining something like this. i explicitly do not want to learn the alsa api, write my own program, which in turn tests some various strings, witch might work for my softdevice. (i've already taken a look at the api, and it is a bit difficult for my limited programming skills...) ___ vdr mailing list vdr@linuxtv.org http://www.linuxtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/vdr

Yes, it is problematic. But the only way to unload the drivers is to make sure they're not used any more, and that requires VDR to be stopped. Driver crashes are rare these days, but reloading drivers may have an effect after all. (for me, I sometimes have problems with multiswitch signaling, and powering off and on the LNB power can help in this case) Cheers, Udo ___ vdr mailing list vdr@linuxtv.org http://www.linuxtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/vdr
[vdr] LCDproc plugin 0.1.0 with VDR 1.4.1-1

Why dont you just try -ao alsa:pcm=default your said your soundcard doesnt have spdif and you arent using it, so why are you telling softdevice to use spdif? ich wrote: > thats quite sure. > the only way momentarly getting the softdevice running is with "-ao > dummy:". without it, it complains about: > "[softdevice-audio] Playback open error: plug:spdif, Invalid argument > FATAL exiting". > for my understanding, it gets ac3 audio stream from the tv-card, and > tries to open the default audio, spdif in this way. i just must redirect > it to the right device, but which one? > > i'm searching for a command line containing somethings like > "-ao alsa:pcm=plug:spdif#ac3=plug:spdif#". > as one can see, i've tried several "plugs" like spdif, default, line and > front, but none worked. > i've searched some time the net, but nothing found explaining something > like this. > > i explicitly do not want to learn the alsa api, write my own program, > which in turn tests some various strings, witch might work for my > softdevice. [vdr] vdr suggestions & osd colour oddity
Hello! I've just started using vdr 1.4.0 in Ubuntu and I have to say I'm extremely impressed and very happy with it - very nice work, well done to the author :) I have a couple of things I'd like to suggest and wonder if they'd be up for consideration. When viewing a channel, pressing Up/Down currently changes channel; would it be possible to allow these buttons to just show channel information (with now/next in) for the previous/next channels, allowing one to quickly view what is on the other channels? ie, I could keep pressing Up to go through the channels, seeing what is on now and next, but without actually changing channel - then press OK to change the channel once I find one to watch. I think it would also be nice if there were more than one rewind/fastforward speed, achievable by repeated pressing of the appropriate button; press ff once to ff at 2x speed, again for 4x speed, again for 8x speed? I'd like to have a go at adding these features myself but I've not read much of the code yet. I'll see how much I can decipher in due course, but maybe someone already did these, or they're planned. I'm suffering a problem that I have no idea how to fix, however - I've read the list archives and noted a few months ago that some posts were made about oddly-coloured OSD when using softdevice and nvidia cards. I believe this is the same problem that I currently see too; it only seems to happen with low resolution broadcasts - when the resolution drops below 640x480 or thereabouts, the OSD turns "pink" for me. On any channel with a higher resolution than this it's ok. I'm using an NVidia 7600 connected to a TV using softdevice/xv. The NVidia natively directs output to the TV since it's the only output device connected, so X is running on it at 1024x768 without any other special configuration. Changing the softdevice/hue to either 0 or 100 as was suggested in those previous posts did not fix the problem for me - I was wondering if anyone else had any tips on what I might try to fix this. thanks very much for any replies & advice, -- Chris ___ vdr mailing list vdr@linuxtv.org http://www.linuxtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/vdr
