Urgent help

2001-04-04 Thread Postmaster

I have a
problem which is growing by the minute.  I know I should be reading the
available documents and faqs, but right now, I need some quick words of
wisdom.  Our qmail server is bouncing a whole bunch of local
receipients.  I am wondering if the password file got
corrupted.  A line from mail log shows the domain name being replaced
by the users ip address.  I don't know why this is happening.  My
qmail guru (consultant) is currently unreachable.  The users are going
crazy.  Can anyone tell me where to start looking?

Bill,

Thanks for responding. The system has been running fine for the past 4-5
months. About a month ago, our consultant installed courier imap which had
memory leaks. An update was installed about a week ago. I started noticing
problems about 4-5 days ago.

This is what assign looks like.

RE: Urgent help

2001-04-04 Thread Postmaster

Mark,

I do have to login as @domain.com, so I guess the domain name wasn't
configured at compile. Is this a delivery or retrieval problem? If it's
pop3 authentication, no users have complained so far. On the other hand,
users are suspicious that not all their mail are being delivered.

Thanks,
jean

RE: Urgent help

2001-04-05 Thread Postmaster

Mark,

Slowly, but surely I am resolving my problems. As far as queue stacking up,
it's because I had the domain name in the qmail/control/locals file. I am
just now awakening to the fact that you want all domains to be virtual under
vpopmail arrangement.

As to the vchkpw problem, the log still records a bunch (5-10 per minute) of
errors where numeric address is being substituted for "@dpc.com". Strange
thing is, when I send email to the user from the user's desk, they still get
delivered quickly to the correct folder and the user can retrieve without
seeing any errors. So, the system is operational and thus the lack of
complaint. Nonetheless, I've got to understand what's going on. Does
vpopmail use dns reverse lookup?

Thanks,
jean

User quota

2001-04-06 Thread Postmaster

Since posting my first and "urgent" message on this list, I've gone thru all
available documents and have a better understanding. Everything is so
elegantly simple! Which brings me to my next question. If it's so simple
and straightforward, I must be doing something wrong.

Tonight, I recompiled vpopmail per install doc, enabling quota and and
roaming. I then created a new domain and a new user, setting the quota to
1m. The vpasswd file showed 1m at the end. Then, I sent a 900k file to the
user. Then a 150k. Then another 150k. I configured an imap account in
outlook to take a peek. And, all 3 files are there! No quota-bounce
message, either. I did do a qmail-send hup, before all this, but now just
to be on the safe-side, rebooted the server. Then did another 150k send.
Went just fine! Guess the quota parameter didn't get in the compile. But,
I got no error message during the compile. I dug around to see if there is
a domain stat type program and only found user stat program.

So, there's the picture. Now tell me something real obvious, so I can kick
myself.

TIA,
jean

I found it was easier to edit the vdelivermail.c program to do both.

But it does not seem that I can easily do both at the same time.

I think you're right (keyword: easily).

You could tap the whole domain to some other domain's account, then use
a filter on the tap account to delete all emails addressed to existing
vpop users. Keeping the filter in sync with user accounts may or may not
be troublesome.

man qmail-send. understand the roles of the locals and
virtualdomains files.

I had read it, and now have read it again. Your first advice (above)
told me to violate those instructions, which I did. I have undone that
change and added what I think should be the correct definitions for
doublebounce (see qmail-showctl result below)

In short, if the domain is handled by vpopmail, you don't want it in
locals.

OK, agreed. Just curious, why did you suggest it the first time?
Please forgive me if I somehow unconsciously misled you in my first
posting, though I thought I disclosed everything needed

So, the problem persists, though it has changed slightly, which I
think means that the virtualdomains entry "mail.ts5.com:ts5.com" is at
least directing the mail to the local processing. Error messages now
