[vchkpw] vpasswd deleted

Greetings,
I  had vpopmail running with cdb, and i have accidently deleted a file
/home/vpopmail/domains/domain.com/vpasswd (not vpasswd.cdb).
Can anyone help me how to recover this file.

Hi,
to recover I don't know. Bu I would try do create a new vpasswd file 
without any password. And if you have vpopmail with the 
--auto-learn-passwords option built into than you probably  be ok.

strings vpasswd

Hi,

You can use cdbdump to dump the password file from the cdb file.  You 
will need to do a little data massaging after.  I've done it before and 
it took me about 5 minutes to recover it with a perl script.

The resulting file needs some handwork tough but basically it works.

After clearing the password, you then authenticated one of the users, 
and his cleartext password didn't update?


Try clearing the encrypted password of a few test accounts and see if 
vpopmail can learn their passwords.
