It would certainly help if you cared to share a few details:

* output of uname -a
* output of strace/ktrace/truss/whatever vadduser

You could also attach gdb to the programm and mail the output of "where"
(or run gdb on the corefile after setting ulimit appropriately). Good
luck.

Well, I can't say I'm completely sure... but did you configure with:

--enable-default-domain=name Default domain name, default is null.

If you didn't, then vchkpw may be looking on the wrong place for the Maildir.

Someone is welcome to contradict me, that's just an instinctive guess... ;)

Hi !
I'm using vpopmail with Mysql..

The pw_passwd field is generated using standard crypt(). You can change it
with something like:

  UPDATE example_com
 SET pw_passwd = ENCRYPT('plaintext')
   WHERE pw_name = 'some_username';

Assuming you want to change the password for user
<[EMAIL PROTECTED]> to be ``plaintext''. (And assuming you are using
large domain support, and so on. But you should get the point.)

Standard unix crypt ...

crypt (current_crypted_password, user_supplied_password) should ==
current_crypted_password.

change this to a real uid and gid and not just the words
vpopmailuid and vpopmailgid.. It requires you to look in
/etc/passwd and find the uid/gid of vpopmail and substitute
them into your startup line for those words.

It had alse happened to me when adding virtual accounts without full

Yeshh...
It says I should change 'defaultdelivery' in the start script:

So, I've already changed it to:
> exec env - PATH="/var/qmail/bin:$PATH" \
> qmail-start '| preline /usr/local/lib/maildrop/bin/maildrop' splogger qmail

But, it doesn't create any maildirsize (for quotas) and doesn't call
'.mailfilter' for the virtual domains users.

Here we've finally got rid of the user%domain when authenticating.

But then we started getting this error:
The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by
the server. The rejected e-mail address was '[EMAIL PROTECTED]'.
Subject 'fyi', Account: 'postmaster', Server: 'virtual-support.net',

Have tried everything that everyone has recommended to no avail still unable
to send mail. So we checked out my ISP come to find out they are erroring
this (since in the logs my connection always looked weird):

sends with no hassles.

Below is a copy of my /var/named/virtual-support.net file. Is it something

Look closer at the error message:

'553 sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts (#5.7.1)'

it means that you tried to send to a domain that isn't in your
/var/qmail/control/rcpthosts or that the sender doesn't havethe
RELAYCLIENT variable set.

If the domain you are sending to is a local/virtual domain - make sure
it's listed in /var/qmail/control/rcpthosts.

If the domain you are sending to is a remote domain, put your client IP
in the tcp.smtp file for allowing it to relay throu your server.

I suggest you take your time and read "Life with qmail". It's a very
nice book released under the OpenContent licence. You can find a link to
it on qmail's homepage (www.qmail.org).

PS
 Please don't cross-post - it's VERY irritating to recive 2 emails..
Specially where one of the list is qmailAdmin, specialiced to take care
of the qmailAdmin web-interface (user support, bugreporting etc). A mail
to vchkpw at inter7 dot com is more then enough.. If you are afraid that
you wont reach enough people, send it to qmail's mailinglist as well -
but don't cross post, please.. THANKS!

Read and understand how to use the tcpserver -x option to control
relaying thru your qmail-smtpd server. The error message you are
getting isn't clear. What it is really saying is..
"You are not authorized to relay email through this server, bye"

ken, he's wanting something where you could still have

"[EMAIL PROTECTED]" be two different "unique" login accts
"[EMAIL PROTECTED]"

so you could have a "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" would be the physical pop
login "pop01"

where [EMAIL PROTECTED] would be the physical pop login
"pop02"

as I suggested earlier - great feature requests always are accompanied by
their implementations :)

You can already do this:

1) Add domain to store all emails under
 vadddomain

2) Add all other virtual domains
 vaddaliasdomain
 vaddaliasdomain
 etc...

3) add users to primary domain

 vadduser @domain1.com

NOTE: this assumes you did --enable-default-domain="domain1.com"
when you configured vpopmail

What this does is create a system where users can just use
"username" to log in and not need to use "user@domain".

And all user names must be unique.
