Re: [PROPOSAL][WRITER] Tables wider than page
On Tue, 17 May 2016 13:29:58 +0200 Axel Schubert dijo: I would create two tables, one on each side of the page, making each one look like the left and right pages. The problem with this is that you cannot anchor a table to a page, so if the text before the table is increased or decreased the tables may not stay put. To overcome this, create a frame on each page, making it large enough to hold that page's table, and anchor each frame to the page, and then create your tables inside the frames. - To unsubscribe, e-mail: users-unsubscr...@openoffice.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: users-h...@openoffice.apache.org

(The e-mail address used for the original >purchase was used on the iPad as well.) Tony, I regret to say that if you paid $19.99 for OpenOffice you were ripped off. OpenOffice is free, open source software that you can download as many times as you want. Technically it is not a violation of the OpenOffice license for companies to package it and charge for their service. Often companies do this to provide it on CD for people who cannot download it. However, many companies use this loophole to charge even for the download. At least now you know that you can download it for your iPad at no charge. But instead of going to the rip-off people I recommend that you download it directly from openoffice.org: http://www.openoffice.org/download/other.html - To unsubscribe, e-mail: users-unsubscr...@openoffice.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: users-h...@openoffice.apache.org

What you want is Scribus. It is far more powerful than MS Publisher. And I believe the current development version has an import filter for MS Publisher files. Plus, of course, it has import filters for OO/LO writer documents which preserve the styles. But if you are not familiar with page layout apps you may have a learning curve. The important thing to remember is that it is page oriented, so each page should be considered a container. Whatever you put on a page stays on that page until you move it. Text doesn't flow like it does in a word processor. It's a bit like if the only way to place text in an OO/LO document was in frames. - To unsubscribe, e-mail: users-unsubscr...@openoffice.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: users-h...@openoffice.apache.org
Re: Postal Bar Code Add on - US

I used to use that feature in WP also, but then I discovered it was useless for me. One day a customer came in holding a letter that I had mailed her with my barcode on her address, and the post office had sprayed their own barcode on the envelope as well. The barcodes were identical, so it made me curious. I called the post office and discovered that they automatically spray their barcode on all mail, whether it comes in with a barcode already on it or not. The exception is large mailings that go through the Business Mail Unit, i.e., bulk mail and presorted mail. If I recall correctly you must mail at least 500 pieces at a time to use the BMU. For the rest of us, putting the barcode on the envelope is pointless. The post office has astonishingly good scanners that read the address printed on the mail, calculate the barcode, and spray it on, and at a speed that would leave you speechless. Humans are used only for mail that the automated equipment kicks out. Since the post office scans it anyway, my mail just needs a clearly printed address on it to ensure that the scanner can read it accurately, and an address that conforms to postal standards. As for whether LO/OO can put a barcode on the envelope, I don't know because I stopped trying to do it years ago. --- List Conduct Guidelines: http://openoffice.apache.org/list-conduct.html To unsubscribe, e-mail: users-unsubscr...@openoffice.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: users-h...@openoffice.apache.org

I have long had those two checkboxes deselected, yet when I copy and paste from a web site containing an URL, the URL is still recognized as an URL. Deselecting those two checkboxes accomplishes nothing. And I sympathize with the original poster; it is not easy to get rid of the URL formatting. The only way I have been able to do it is to select the entire document and copy it to the clipboard, open a new blank document, and then use Paste Special (Ctrl-Shift-v). This allows the option of pasting the text in as unformatted text. And finally, save the new document and trash the old one. Unfortunately, Paste Special > Unformatted also loses all other formatting, e.g., bold, italic, font choices, etc. --- List Conduct Guidelines: http://openoffice.apache.org/list-conduct.html To unsubscribe, e-mail: users-unsubscr...@openoffice.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: users-h...@openoffice.apache.org

That was the first thing I tried to do. With the URL completely selected, including a space before and after, I tried to remove local formatting, assign a different style, and everything else I could think of. Nothing would remove the URL formatting from the URL. The only way I can get rid of the URL formatting is to cut it from the document (Ctrl-x), then Paste Special it back into the document as unformatted text. I find this highly annoying. --- List Conduct Guidelines: http://openoffice.apache.org/list-conduct.html To unsubscribe, e-mail: users-unsubscr...@openoffice.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: users-h...@openoffice.apache.org
