There are shareware/freeware OCR programs - Tesseract is very effective.
OCRing a document will usually try to recreate the exact format of the
document, so you may need to edit that if you are intending to reformat the
document. In addition, OCR only has an accuracy level of about 97-98%,
depending on quality of the original, so you will need to proof-read to find
such errors and edit to correct them. In particular, figures should be checked
and rechecked if they are of importance to the document.

We would need to know what error message(s) you get.

A more drastic way to uninstall, but reportedly successful, is to download and
use either of CCleaner or Revo Uninstaller.

Well, When I used to be a windoze user, almost all apps hat I installed
would have an unstaller program as well.

Is it not time for Apache OpenOffice to do the same?

Being late is still much better than never.

Uninstall?

2020-09-25 Thread Floyd Knapp
I still run Win 7 and just open the Control Panel, select Programs and
then select from the list to uninstall anything on your computer. This
may leave program specific artifacts in your system but so what?

Registering Open Office.

2020-09-25 Thread Raymond Pirkl
I have been using Open Office for several years and loved it until today. I
used to get a registration message maybe twice each year.
Now I get a Registration request two times a week. Also each time I register,
the past messages or letters I write, they disappear from the file on the
opening page and The Most Recent Open File listing. How about stopping your
constant requests asking me to constantly register my program? It is time
consuming, frustrating and costly when I have to keep searching for a past
opened file that are put back into my general memory storage that I have to
find so I can reopen the document. Help!!

Thanks,

Raymond

This is most possibly due to over-hasty power-off of computer or closure of
laptop lid, before the file housekeeping has been written to disk, or to
computer or program crash. Do not let your computer sleep/hibernate with a
document open. When you have formally closed down the computer, wait five or
ten seconds before pulling the power lead or closing the laptop lid, to allow
the internal buffers of the hard drive flush to disk. This will save your user
details and the list of your recent
documents.

Text overwriting and data not presenting

2020-09-25 Thread Rochelle
Hello,
I've been using Apache Open Office 4.0.1 with my 2012 Mac Air and have had
little problems in the past.
I usually save my documents to my drive in MS (.doc and .xls) as they are
often are shared with other MS and MAC users.

I recently had a mac store migrate my files to a new 2017 Mac Air with 1TB
upgrade as my older mac air storage was limited and freezing up on me. I
have not had any issues opening older documents saved on my drive.

#1
I found that a few recent saves in open office .doc form appear with all
the text superimposed upon itself and I'm unable to make sense of the
document. It does not happen with all documents received, just a few.
This has also happened when I opened and tried to save a .docx email
attachment

#2 Spreadsheet data not presenting - Very Strange
Cells in the spreadsheet appear to be hiding. Clicking on a cell will show
the data, but does not appear otherwise.
Also the situation is not static. When I scroll on the page, sometimes some
of the data will appear and othertimes, data that was visible is no longer
viewable unless one clicks on the cell.

Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated. This is very stressful
and more so during covid, where reliable software is crucial to get any
work done.
