Unsaved Open Office Writer Document

2020-02-03 Thread Narissa Hinojosa
Hello! I am desperate for help!!

I accidentally clicked “don’t save” when editing a document! I have looked
everywhere and I can’t find out how to get it back! I went through the steps
online of the c:\users\ that brings up the backup file and it’s not in there!

Thank you so much for your time!

What does this have to do with OpenOffice?

It's the crappy auto response given when someone tries to log into or
recover their credentials for the Apache OpenOffice templates website.

The message instructs the victim to "Contact the site administrator",
but we users have no idea who the site administrator is.

Hi,

this has been send to users. Is this a good move?

Shouldn't it go to @dev or @sysadmin?

The contact link on the bottom names @users.

All the Best

Yes it probably would have been better to have gone to @dev or
@sysadmin, but the message was moderated through to @users from a
non-subscribed poster.

yea I know. that is why I cross post to the other lists.

Now I hope that the people who can fix it become aware and we might
change the mailing list so users write to the right address from the start.

Sorry if this causes confusion.

The users list is the standard support list for users, so it's normal to
direct people here (I've moved dev to BCC).

This is a known issue. We can't do anything about this. Sourceforge
modified something in their infrastructure long ago and the Templates
and Extensions sites haven't been able to send out mails any longer
since then. This needs to be fixed on their side.

Still, it makes sense to list the users list as contact as we still can
do something (e.g., remove spam comments, or reset a password).

I've e-mailed Richard a new password as a workaround so that he can
login and pick a new one. This should solve this instance, but the
server issue remains open.

Regards,
  Andrea.

Re: Unsaved Open Office Writer Document

2020-02-03 Thread Alan B
Hello Narissa,

I think you are out of luck. If OpenOffice or the computer had crashed or
if you forced the program to close without saving the document you would be
able to find the document per the instructions at the link below.
https://smallbusiness.chron.com/recover-unsaved-work-openoffice-29581.html

That crash recovery version of the document the instructions direct how to
find disappeared whenever the program was closed by clicking the Discard
button in every test I tried.

One other possibility is look in the directory the file is saved in. Make
sure your file browser is set to show hidden files. It is possible a
version of the file might still be there. The name would likely start with
the ~ character and end with #. The file has a greater chance of being
there if it was saved on a network drive instead of the pc's hard drive.

Good luck.

At the risk of rubbing salt in a wound, and not at all intending to,
regardless what happens with this file I suggest the following to people as
a way to protect against just this sort of thing. "Save early, save often".
The keyboard combination Ctrl+S allows saving the file just as rapidly as
typing a capital letter. Get into the Ctrl+S habit at any time you pause
your editing and there's a great chance of not loosing any work.

Calc cell large

2020-02-03 Thread Dana Lynch

Calc cells suddenly are huge and I can't reset calc. I did default
format, reinstalled, and even did computer restore from before problem
but to no avail. I can adjust height and width, but one at a time. This
only affects new files and not ones I have stored on external hard
drives. Please help me as I don't want to purchase Microsoft Office.
Thank you.
