Re: 2 questions

2015-05-22 Thread Jean Lear
To add to the usefulness of the above, I have included the Paste Icon on
the Toolbar. (The icon is on the drop down of visible buttons so just
highlight it there*) The drop down arrow gives a number of options
including Unformatted text. The same icon on the tool bar also helps when
using Calc. If you do a lot of 'copy and paste' work this is very useful
and time saving.
(* I am not sure now if I had to add it as an extra icon to the Visible
list or whether it was there on that list all the time. I have been using
it for so long that I do not remember. Even if you have to add it as an
extra icon on the tool bar it is well worth doing)
Hope this helps some members of the list.
Jean

Spell check

2015-05-22 Thread Toni Chudilowsky
I have tried every forum. I see others have this problem but cannot fix.
My spellchecker underlines every word in red. Have tried to reinstall.
Tried to change my user ID but the terms are to technical for me and I'm
afraid to delete anything I'm not sure of. PLEASE HELP! I registered
with your forum but it said I was too new to post anything.

Which spell checkers have you installed?

What language & locale does Apache OpenOffice think that the documents
are in?

My guess is that you have not installed a spell checker for the language
that Apache OpenOffice thinks that the document is written in.

Most likely your user profile has been corrupted delete or rename your
user profile.

If you are using Windows do this by:
Close OpenOffice and the Quickstarter. Open File Explorer. Copy and paste
%appdata%\OpenOffice\4 in the File Explorer Address Bar and press Enter. Rename the
"user" folder. Start OpenOffice.

Re: open office 4 database Bugg?

Hello
I have built a really simple database to store some very important

screenshot 2.
I have definitely not entered any data incorrectly, this is so
tedious. is there anything to be done ? or must I buy another
database, if so which would be compatible with the data already entered?

I don't know which database you are using, but the embedded database is
not the best solution.
Reason is not the database but because it's inside the OpenOffice file
you loose everything when your odb file get corrupted.
There are many free databases available I personally use MySQL not
because it's the best but it's the one I'm familiar with.

thanks in advance
P.Marshall. PS if there is a paid version which works better I am
more than happy to buy it .
Running open office 4 on macbook pro with yosemite all java files
updated to latest.

Never pay if you can get it for free

I don't see it. Attached is a screen shot of the visible buttons. FWIW I'm
using OS X and AOO 4.1.1

As I mentioned earlier, I'm more of a keyboard user than a pointer/clicker.

I guess I'll have to live with that - I'm a keyboard person more than a
pointing device person.

Thanks to all.

Your picture is of the Visible Buttons drop-down for the Formatting
toolbar. The Paste button is instead in the Standard toolbar (and you
should find it appears by default and does not need to be selected).

I trust this helps.

Since you're a newbie, you haven't seen the advice, which appears about
every two or three months as to how to fix this Delete your profile.

One would think that with the constant problem this causes almost
everybody who uses that software, that the developers would fix it,
but for some reason they don't.

OO and LO have some features that are hard to find in competing products,
but they obviously have some "features" that can only be considered bugs.

Personally, I only use one of these close cousins when no other word-
processor will do the particular job. Maybe someday when it becomes more
user friendly. . . .
