Someone else also responded to my e-mail. I had to completely close down my
computer and start fresh. My open office is finally working again.
Thank you for trying to help me!

OpenOffice works well with Windows 8.1. We have no reports of problems
similar to the ones you experienced.

Losing my changes in my books is very time consuming to do it again
and I will be very appreciative could you tell me the reason Save and
Auto Check do not work?

Save: maybe you are expecting changes to be shown? Edit -> Changes ->
check Record and Show and see if this brings out the saved changes you
couldn't see.

Spell check: a solution is to reset your user profile; at the next
restart, OpenOffice will reinstall dictionaries. See:

Issue with MathML

2014-06-07 Thread Prannoy Pilligundla
Hi everyone,

I am Prannoy and I am working on a project which involves latex to odt
conversion. I am facing some issues with mathml. For example the following
is the mathml code generated for a composite fraction

http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"; xmlns:xlink="
http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink";>

 x +
1

x+2
y+z+w

When I test this mathml code in this link
, I am able to see the
expected expression but when I open the odt file in OpenOffice I don't see
the math expression as expected. When this expression is opened in the eqn
editor of OpenOffice there is a missing opening brace and a missing closing
brace. Here I am not sure whether this is a bug in tex4ht(used for tex to
odt conversion) or with OpenOffice. It would be great if someone could
guide me on this.

Looking forward to hear from you guys

Thanks and Regards
Prannoy Pilligundla

DOWNLOADED V.4 Problems. Please Help

2014-06-07 Thread Sapper
Hi,

I have downloaded v.4 last week.

PLEASE HELP!

Problem #1: When I load my document all my GRAPHICS are empty.
I have tried for several hours to turn this on with no luck. Can you PLEASE
help
I load my file and I get an empty graphics box .. It has the path name
to my doc, but no graphic is present.
How can I fix and make sure this stays “on”???

Problem #2: When I am working in v.4 the program “SHUTS DOWN”, or “CRASHES”.
When I restore I lost the work I did prior to crash..
Can someone PLEASE HELP. This happens approximately every 20 minutes when I am
manipulating the style.

Can someone PLEASE HELP

Thank You
Ron

Until a more knowledgeable one can send help to you, double click or
right click (not sure which action is needed - this is a time WP Reveal
Codes would be useful) on the graphic box to ensure it is pointed to
where your graphic is located.

For better help, provide the operating system, the web site where you
found the download (sometimes this is important for the "helping hand")
and verify you are using "Open Office writer"

Page numbering assistance

2014-06-07 Thread Jay Shannon
Hello, I am hoping you can help me. I'm attempting to format my novel using
OpenOffice and am having difficulties with the page numbering. I'm entirely
illiterate when it comes to your support forums which is why I'm contacting you
via this website.

I've enlisted the "Manual Break" function, which works for me. The initial
blank pages and copyright is one break, unnumbered. Next, for my contents and
preamble I have another break, numbered with roman numerals, then my title page
(two pages, the second one blank), which I want unnumbered, and then the
prologue begins at Page 1.

The problem is, even though the title page(s) are their own break, when I add
page numbering to the body of the book, page numbers then insert themselves
into the title page(s). If I delete them from the title page(s), they delete
themselves from the body of the book.

How can I avoid this?

Jason Shannon

You should check /Tools/ Options /OpenOffice Writer : View and make sure
Display : Graphics is checked. You should also adjust /Tools /Options
/OpenOffice : Memory and increase the memory allocation to 256MB, decrease
number of undo steps to 10 or 20, and adjust the other settings based on the
information in this Forum post
https://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&p=314079#p314079

It may be that your document has too many or too complex images, in which case
you have a number of choices.

Firstly, if your output is standard print, your photographic images need be no
finer resolution than 180/210 dpi - anything more cannot be perceived by the
eye under normal viewing conditions. Graphics, such as line drawings, can with
advantage be 600 dpi.

Secondly, it may be that your total use of images is exceeding the memory
allocations, in which case I suggest splitting your document into smaller
chunks, each containing a smaller count of images - be advised by the above
posting.

More importantly, you need to cure the crashing. The standard cure is to
recommend that (even on an unstable new installation) the User Profile be
deleted or renamed. Details are given in
https://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=74&t=12426
This cures a surprisingly large proportion of OpenOffice problems.

If that doesn't cure your instability, you need to start Windows in Safe Mode,
and see if OpenOffice runs stable in that mode. If it does, you have to look
for interference from some other program/driver/service running on your
computer when it is started in Windows normal mode.

Once you have defined your styles you should not need to tweak them - this is
the purpose of styles.

Page numbering is not a document property. It is a Page Style Property. Every
time you change the format of page numbering, such as On or Off, Roman
numerals, Arabic numerals, etc, you need to use a different Page Style, which
style is introduced by the /Insert /Break /Page Break mechanism.

This tutorial on Page Numbering may help:
https://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=71&t=1221
as may this on Page Styles and headers/footers
https://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=71&t=44607

If your problems continue, I suggest you bring them to the Forum at
https://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum
where you will get speedy help.
