Re: Kernel panic in 4.1.2-200.fc22.x86_64

2015-07-31 Thread joev.8450
hmm. I don't know if I'm in the same experience or not. I'm running
fedora 21 and upgraded to kernel 4.0.8 from 4.0.7 on 7/19. I didn't
have any issues until about the 26th. But then my system started to
lock up. It wasn't just GNOME but direct access was locked -- ie no
response via keyboard, no signal to monitor. The system responded to
ping and allowed nfs shares that were in place but was not accepting ssh
connect. So I powered down and selected kernel 4.0.6 on the reboot on
7/29. I haven't had any issues since. However, I am not seeing any
kernel bug events logged in the journal. I suspected the seagate USB
drive or driver for a minute but before I dropped the kernel back I
unplugged the external drive. Still locked up. I am seeing some
references to nVidia in the logs.

Re: Thunderbird Opening Links

2015-09-30 Thread joev.8450
another FWIW: I have:

[jverreau@latitude ~]$ xdg-settings get default-web-browser
firefox.desktop
[jverreau@latitude ~]$ uname -a
Linux latitude.durand8450.info 4.1.7-200.fc22.x86_64 #1 SMP Mon Sep 14
20:19:24 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I have firefox 41, chrome 45 and chromium 43 installed. I did get an
unexpected prompt when I recently ran updates which included firefox 41.
The first time I opened firefox it advised me that firefox was not my
default browser would I like to make it so. I said yes. I haven't seen
issues with opening links from thunderbird.

Re: openweathermap

2015-10-23 Thread joev.8450
my experience is similar to Jack's -- ie I can connect via HTTP but not
HTTPS. I'm thinking this is an issue between that server and the
browser on the issue of 'good enough https' and that would take the
issue out of the OS arena. I fear we are about to see a ramp up in the
security wars. What I mean is until we get the browsers and the web
server community on the same page defining base level HTTPS/TLS we will
see more disconnects (double entendre intended).

Re: dnf update package from specific repo

2016-09-13 Thread joev.8450
I still use priorities as I did with yum. it was an extension under yum.
then any packages that are in that lower priority repo will not
over-upgrade the same package in another repo.

Re: Botched fedup F23 -> F24 with nvidia

2016-11-07 Thread joev.8450
doesn't the nVidia installer uninstall everything nvidia before it
installs the version in the invoked installer run file? I mean is there
something else I should invoke or do to make sure I've uninstalled
everything nvidia? I'm having somewhat of a similar problem but
re-running the installer which tells me it is uninstalling the installed
version isn't helping.

did you try the import/export tools extension? available at this link:
https://freeshell.de//~kaosmos/mboximport-en.html. btw, it doesn't come
up searching for addons. i've used it several times and found it
flexible and pretty straightforward.

Re: Importing mail archive into Thuderbird

2014-07-30 Thread joev.8450
yea, I found it odd that this option was not listed in addon search esp
when it is discussed in thunderbird support. I have also used the file
copy approach which worked. Since I was moving from windows ntfs to
linux fedora I went with the import/export tools extension.

how ironic! In fact we used to live just south of eight mile between
