What is causing the unlocking of Widgets in and up to KDE-4.6

The Unlocking of Widgets and Screwing up the the whole Desktop and Panel 
in and upto KDE-4.6,  WHAT IS GOINGON 

I have every day a new Linux User  calling me up and saying My Panel or 
Desktop is messed up again. telling them be sure the Widgets are Locked 
, this is getting old, when I know I keep my own Widgets lock,  but they 
still keep getting unlocked.

And switching to Gnome desktop is Totally out of the question.

I have never experience this in kde-3.

As to why this happening in KDE4.6 it seems to happen after rebooting 
and or updating.

It is a Major problem and upsetting a lot of new users.

Converting a avi to mpeg2 using Brasero ?

FEDORA 15

When  Brasero is converting a AVI to Mpeg2 it gets upto 17mib of 2049 
Mib , it just continues to run , but conversion just stops at 17MiB. 
What could the problem be ?

Burning Video DVD Howto

Fedora 15/Kde4 .

I have tried to burn burn a one hour videos using K3B

File > New Project > New Video Dvd Project , It creates a VIDEO_TS and 
AUDIO_TS , but if I  select a AVI or mp4 video to the Project, I get the 
following Error;

Could not determine size of resulting image file.

Is there a howto for k3b that explains this more in depth ?

Saving Youtube Videos in Fedora

At one time Youtube videos were being temp. downloaded while playing to 
the /tmp directory where you could save from, but now it seems that is 
no longer the case.

On a backup drive /mnt/home/tom , I want to change all directories and 
files in tom to owner:tom .

The drive is mounted but from /home the command  chown -R tom tom is not 
changing the directories and files to owner, tom .

Command chown  -R tom:tom tom won't change the ownership in the 
directories and files in
directory tom .

Getting Thunderbird to open Links in Email

How do I get thunderbird to select Firefox when opening links in Emails.

When clicking on Links in Emails nothing is happening.

I can't find in Thunderbird Preferences a way to select Firefox.

In KDE it's Settings/Default Applications/Web Browser and my is set to 
firefox,
but it still won't open and use Firefox.

Thanks for the help Patrick.
Ran gnome-control-center, and under /System/System Info/Default 
Applications I made the changes and it is working normal in Thunderbird 
now.

one of two things, your password is not correct or your account settings 
is off. If you know your account settings compare with what you have in 
kmail.

Last resort , Call your ISP and get correct settings.

Linking shared lib.

I'm trying to install from the fedora repos  honeyd package and it 
requires a  dependency package  libevent-1.4.so.2 which does not exist.

I did a ln -s  libevent-2.0.so.5   libevent-1.4.so.2   in /usr/lib .

So i now have in /usr/lib  libevent-1.4.so.2 >  libevent-2.0.so.5 >  
libevent-2.0.so.5.0.1  .  But when i try to install   honeyd  I still 
get the error it needs  libevent-1.4.so.2 .

What do I do ?

I tried the URL in firefox and  it works.

week and it work fine.

I did a   get_flash_videos --updates  and no updates available , i have 
latest version .

I have done Fedora updates this week, could there be a Problem there in

Rpmfusion problems

With rpmfusion in the /etc/yum.repos.d .

when running Yumex I get error ;

Cannot retrieve repository Metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: 
rpmfusion-free , Please verify it's path and try again.

I can't even do the following command and get the two rpmfusion.rpm to install, 
like it can't find rpmfusion.org, I have  to download the two rpm's and use yum 
localinstall --nogpgcheck to install the rpm's.

su -c 'yum localinstall --nogpgcheck 
http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-stable.noarch.rpm

This is a New Fedora 15 install could there be a problem with my Network 
Setup,  I can't even get PlayOnLinux to see the network connection, but

I would do a F15 fresh install.
I have done a Preupgrade of a number of fedora boxes and still end up 
with irritating little problems.

What I do is a custom install with a  /  an /home partitions, that way 
you can keep you home directory and do a fresh install of each Fedora 
release.

I have been through that damn router two times and I can not find out 
why or how it comes up with;

domain= 2wire.net
search = 2wire.net
nameserver 172.16.0.1   (which is the gateway of the router)

2wire.net is the website of modem manufacturer , not a DNS serve.
This is causing conflicts with a number of website. It can not get the 
DNS numbers.
And lastly it is a old modem/router that will only allow WEP configuration
I'am going to buy a Actiontec GT784WN modem/router to use with at&T

You say that the correct driver is in the Fedora Printer setup ?
I set my printer printer up as such and it works fine as a network printer;

URL:lpd://192.168.1.101   (use your own IP)

But during the setup watch carefully for any SeLinux error messages and 
correct those as you go along.
Another tricky thing about Fedora is while your in the Printer Setup it 
will want a root password auth and that windows will be hidden behind 
another larger window where you can't see it, so watch down on the
Panel Bar for windows for root password auth.

As for the scanner some work on Network and some don't, i had to hook a 
USB cable to use the scanner,  be sure xsane is installed.

And be sure to watch for those SeLinux error that popup , fix selinux 
errors as they pop up or you won't get your printer to work.  It is not 
wise to disable SeLinux.  Fedora 15 makes it real easy to fix the SeLinux
errors.

Fedora Install on a Compaq ?

Does anyone know how to Boot off a CDrom, do you have to click on a "F"

On Drivers that need to be updated with the kernel may not happen when 
kernel is updated , and the next time around when you do a "yum update" 
they get updated.

I assume you do have the rpmfusion.rpms installed ?

Does your ethernet eth0 (wired connection) connect after booting  ?

The kmod-wl is a wireless adapter driver and comes from rpmfusion.org 
after you install the: Run command in terminal as user below. That is if 
your ethernet eth0 connection is connecting.


Copy and Paste the complete command below into terminal.

su -c 'yum localinstall --nogpgcheck 
http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-stable.noarch.rpm

This is the first time I have ever heard of a laptop without a ethernet 
(wired connection)

Then the only way you have left is to use another computer with a USB 
stick to get the kmod-wl and it's dependencies
from http://rpmfusion.org to install the driver.

Any other way your looking at a Dependency Hell.

  If I click on a URL link in a Thunderbird email, to open it with 
Firefox4, it won't open in Firefox4 .

Is the settings setup in Thunderbird > Preferences > Attachments ?   If 
so How do I get the Firefox4 in Attachments ?

Installing a older .sh file in Fedora 14

Installing a printer driver  z600cups-1.0-1.gz.sh file that was made for 
RH9.

I run command:
# sh z600cups-1.0-1.gz.sh
Verifying archive integrity...tail: cannot open `+6' for reading: No 
such file or directory
Error in check sums 2331425966 225780837

I have downloaded the driver CJLZ600LE-CUPS-1.0-1(1).TAR.gz and 
extracted it three time thinking it was a bad download.
z600cups-1.0-1.gz.sh

Could it be a conflict with F14 being a older file.

If you have the rpmfusion.org repos in F14 all you have to do is yum 
install kmod-rt3070 and it will install all the needed rpm's.

I finally got it with The F14-netist cd and rescue mode.
The Porteus disk old and new versions didn't help

I have a Samsung printer and if you used the Samsung drivers Selinux 
will give you headaches . It won't let the printer print.

It appears that the USB port has found the Samsung printer, As SU do a   
setenforce 0; fixfiles -F restore; setenforce 1; reboot

If that does not work do a reinstall of drivers.
I had to do a  su- to get the drivers to install correctly .

Fedora 14, 15 , No Video using Geforce 8400GS

Fedora-ChromeOS ???

Has anyone out there put together a Live .iso out with fedora and 
ChromeOS on top ??

I have a download CD with Suse-ChromeOS on it but I want 
fedora/KDE/ChromeOS.

I don't like these Laptops on the Samsung/Acer that has ChromeOS only on 
It. I have a
10.1" Asus with a 150 gig-hd that I want to install the 
fedora-kde-chromeOS on it.

I have downloaded a Ruby script file that has line numbers in it, and it 
does not Run like that.

Are the line numbers supposed to be removed before running ?

The question as it stands is meaningless. K3B just burns bits. It
distinguishes between audio CDs and everything else, but that's all. If
you need to convert something to a specific video format, you need
something like ffmpeg or transcode to produce the bits. Then K3B will

Yes, But  convert to what format so k3b can burn a Video CD/DVD ?

You probably need to create a DVD structure as an ISO file, then burn
the file to a DVD as data. Creating the ISO can be done several ways,
e.g. DeVeDe or tovid (not sure if that last has an rpm).

This is all from memory as I haven't actually created a DVD in several
years. Most modern DVD players have USB sockets so you can use pendrives
as input and avoid all the hassle, not mention saving on media costs.
