Linux for T1 bonding ???
Hi Folks, This is probably not the best forum for this query, but I am hoping you might direct me... We have a T1 that is running about max'd out. We are thinking to buy a comcast connection and use a Linux based T1 bonding to load balance over the 2 pipes. Any open source references to recommend? I have not been finding a lot of options... The cable connection rates are real low compared to our t1, i am not thinking we ought to get the cable connection and if its as fast as advertised, ditch the t1 we have now. interesting quest! :) thx for your comments, jackc... -- Jack Craig Software Engineer 831.461.7100 x120 www.extraview.com -- users mailing list users@lists.fedoraproject.org To unsubscribe or change subscription options: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/users Guidelines: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Mailing_list_guidelines

On 05/25/2010 02:40 PM, Bill Davidsen wrote: interesting quest! :) My experience with cable has been that it is highly variable in bandwidth. In upstate NY you can get DSL up to 7Mbit and FIOS at 15Mbit and you get the speed you pay for. Depending on your usage you might even have the T1 for incoming connections to your servers and use a DHCP connection on another ISP like cable for things which don't need static IP on outbound connections, like browsing, VPN depending on your setup, etc, etc. Having done bonded lines "back when" I became aware that total bandwidth goes up but the speed doesn't, so ping and anything depending on response time won't change. And you want to advertise larger TCP window sizes so that you will back up some packets and actually use the bonding. Some bonding methods don't put packets for a given connection on the "other" wire until they have a few packets waiting. Great feed back to hear /before/ we make a decision! Re: Extract file from tar home/
it only makes sense, zip deflated the individual files and tar is ignorance of that requirement. hence the untar, then unzip. you might consider $tar czvf /tmp/bob.tar.gz /home/bobg/ then each file is compressed by tar on the way to the tarball. i think then you can do a $tar xzvf /tmp/bob.tar.gx /home/bobg/somefile and i think that might do what you want. but test first! :) On 06/07/2010 02:58 PM, Bob Goodwin wrote: > On 07/06/10 17:52, Luc MAIGNAN wrote: > >> tar -xzvf bobg.tar.gz file_to_extract >> >> "man tar" is your friend... >> >> Le 07/06/10 23:48, Bob Goodwin a écrit : >> >> >>>I have /home/bobg/ tar'd to "bobg.tar.gz." However, given its normal power saving procedure, it dims the screen shortly after the video starts. Is there any prevailing wisdom how to handle this feature during a video display? I am assuming watching movies has the same issue... tia, jackc... -- Jack Craig Software Engineer 831.461.7100 x120 www.extraview.com -- users mailing list users@lists.fedoraproject.org To unsubscribe or change subscription options: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/users Guidelines: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Mailing_list_guidelines

Re: Moblin is dead, Fedora on netbooks?
Wow! i fired this email off when i got home last night and it stirred quite an exchange. however, a bit of background will show my reaction is not a knee-jerk on my part, just the culmination of a path turning sour. i used to work for danger before M$ bought it out. i enjoyed the mobile sidekick platform we provided despite its targeted youth market. its use for google/email on the go was Great! this is what i must have in my truck. when i later got laid off last spring, i decided to look for a way to use Linux in a similar portable form factor. after some looking about, the hot setup seemed to be a netbook and moblin. i chose moblin as i reasoned that backed by Intel (motivated by atom sales) should be a solid platform/open src steward to begin on. i selected a product direction of OBD to USB reasoning there may be a few gearheads in the fedora crowd that should also enjoy a window to their automotive computers. the project kept me busy all summer while i looked for new work. however, i was less than overwhelmed by the moblin desktop. in a landscape precious screen, they dedicate 1/3 to twitter/social networking(waste), 1/3 to the last jpg's i've looked at (yawn), and a paltry 1/3 for my desktop with icons & calendar space. 1/3 is not enough. i really just want a mobile fedora; i have it at home & work, i use it, i like it. as for meetoo, err, meego, its just another social centric os trying to compete with M$ products yet to be released. i hate a deployment that hides all the behind the scenes stuff i want to know about. moblin died for me because it failed to live up to my needs. my next posts will focus on adapting fc11 to a small form factor. thx again to all that reported using fc on the eeepc. as for meego, you and the kids have fun, i got work to do. Re: Looking for a monitor driver
Personally, i am unclear why you put so much effort into what was already observed to be an ancient os version? are you making grade points for maintaining bitrot? :-P you knock yourself out to fix such a small issues only to find may others may lurk. more current FC version will undoubted work better. you might get a different set of problems, but at least with current sw, others are currently fighting those issues so you might get more helpful responses. you are aware the entire Linux X world has been redone in recent years? I have found the drivers for Windows but not for Fedora. Where can I access monitor drivers for Fedora? With respect FC2 is very old indeed and you would be better off installing an up to date version of Fedora which will likely have a much better chance of driving your monitor - the current drivers will be much more likely to work with your monitor directly from a more recent install of Fedora. Any reason you can't install F12? Nowhere. Monitor drivers don't exist. The .ini file for Windows isn't a driver either, just a configuration file that contains info about the sync frequencies supported by the monitor. Normally the data about monitor properties is read directly from the monitor through the DDC protocol. What problems are you having with the monitor? I got the screen to work with the system by editing /etc/X11/xorg.conf changing the Horizontal rates, the size of the screen and the Modes for the screen. Unfortunately the display does not fit the monitor's size, too tall and not wide enough. I did play with the dimensions of the screen. There may not be drivers for the monitors, but the various systems have a knowledge of a list of monitors. The E2210H Dell is not listed on the F2 system. That would be a good reason for an upgrade. I will see if I can pull the system offline for an upgrade. I don't understand why the Mode entry in /etc/X11/xorg.conf does not seem to have any relationship to the Modes shown in the System/ Display gui. I coded in 1920x1080 in xorg.conf. The Display gui shows 1024xsomething and 1280x960.
