I can only really advise you to look carefully at the headers sent by your backend, make sure you're using apache 2.2.x, set LogLevel debug in apache (very helpful during cache configuration), and see the CacheIgnore* directives. http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/mod/mod_cache.html http://wiki.apache.org/httpd/WatchingHttpHeaders -- noodl - The official User-To-User support forum of the Apache HTTP Server Project. Xampp works fine with Windows XP. Windows 98 is almost 10 years old (maybe older) -- time to get a more modern OS if you want to run xampp. ISTR that I was able to run a very early version of xampp on Windows 98, but it's been so long that I really can't remember how it functioned. You may find a lack of responses to your question. Firstly, you will want to post in plain text format _only_. Secondly you should include the exact error message and not your interpretation of it (along with anything that appears in the error log). My suspicion is that you have the incorrect ServerName directive. The clue is in the name - 'Name'. Your config snippet has 'ServerName IP'. You should not specify the IP address here. Please refer to http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/mod/core.html#servername for the documentation for the ServerName directive. I would suspect this is the case as well. I recently resolved a problem with a similar java applet. I forced HTTP 1.0 between the proxy server and the backend server and turned off keepalives and the applet works fine through mod_proxy. [EMAIL PROTECTED] SERVER_PORT always reported at 80 (apache 2.2)
Hi all, I'm running apache 2.2 on ubuntu 7.04 and I'm seeing come strange behaviour with the SERVER_PORT environment variable. My server does not listen on port 80. My ports.conf contains : Listen *:4242 and an nmap of my host shows only port 4242 listening. However, when I make a request to a cgi application, the SERVER_PORT env variable is set to 80. I've seen a few people with the same problem, but they were running 1.3 so the solution of having a Port directive does not work for me. Your python script is not properly formatted. In python, white space is significant and code blocks are defined by the indentation. BTW, you read the trace back in reverse order the last thing listed is the cause of the error, the rest is just a trace of the calling stack. You cannot have any indentation on line 1 of your script as that is the top level of coade and must have zero indentation until you enter a new code block with a different execution scope. Anyway, this is not an Apache issue any longer, you should read up on python and its syntactical requirements to fix the problem you have now. [EMAIL PROTECTED] Exit codes reference for httpd binary
Hi, I would like to know if there is a reference of the "exit codes" of the httpd binary (apache2 in the Debian distribution I'm using). After browsing at http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/ (and specially http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/programs/httpd.html), I haven't found any document that describe the topic, so I come to the list in the hope of someone could help me, please :) Maybe it sound a estrange question, but I'm trying to debug a complex utilization of the apache2ctl script. The httpd binary is failing to start (returning 141 instead of the usual 0) and I'm wondering why... Thank you very much in advance! Yep... but also recall that most modules use APR_HOOK_MIDDLE as the ordering, and so the order of when the hooks actually get run does depend on when the modules are loaded in and when they call the ap_hook_* func. And unlike 1.3, 2.x is such that the 1st modules loaded are also run 1st unless the sort changes that (export SHOW_HOOKS and then run Apache to see what happens)... (It is a bug that is easy to fix simply by explicitly specifying the hook ordering in the code.) In the AAA case, it is a little more complicated. I guess the ability to reorder using LoadModule could be considered a feature given that there is no other way to do it. [EMAIL PROTECTED] Apache and mod_ssl
I have a feeling that I'm missing something elementary here. I have an install of apache 2.0.55 with mod_ssl enabled on a HP-UX system in /opt/apache2. This one runs fine. I recompiled another copy of apache (same version) into /opt/apache2a (for testing purposes) to add mod_ldap support and that one worked as well. Then I tried recreating apache2a in apache2 by doing a recompile using a prefix of apache2 and then doing an install after backing everything up and moving the old apache install out of the way. However, this one DOESN'T work. If I launch it WITHOUT SSL turned on (i.e, no SSLEngine on) directive, everything works great. But as soon as I turn on SSL in a VirtualHost, then strange things happen. A client will connect to the test port via SSL, the SSL negotiation appears to work just fine (tested using openssl s_client), but when you attempt to do a GET, the request is sent, but a reply never shows up. Nothing appears in the access_log, and child processes begin to spawn with each request. I can pull up the server-status url and everytime I hit refresh, one child process goes to "W" and another one is spawned. Clicking repeatedly will continue this process until there are a ton of processes, all stuck at "Waiting" with 0/0/0 under the Acc columntDo it enough, the server's load average starts to climb. I've checked and double checked every permission I can possible find. The User and Group directives are both set to "webadmin" which is the same in all configurations. The permissions of the sub-directories in both directories match between the two. I have this feeling that it's simple with the directory permissions and/or structure but I just can't seem to locate it. Anyone have any ideas on what else I might need to look at? Aaron

[EMAIL PROTECTED] Apache and mod_ssl (extra info)
So I tried something kind of new. I completely removed the directory with the non-functioning apache install. I went back to the source, did a make clean, a new configure using the same parameters as before: ./configure --prefix=/opt/apache3 --enable-auth-dbm=shared --enable-expires=shared --enable-headers=shared --enable-rewrite=shared --enable-mime-magic=shared --enable-info=shared --enable-status=shared --enable-userdir=shared --enable-http --enable-so --enable-ssl=static --with-ssl=/opt/openssl098d --with-perl=/opt/perl58 --with-ndbm --enable-ldap=shared --enable-auth_ldap=shared --with-ldap=/usr/local/OpenLDAP.2.3 Had SHLIB_PATH set to "/opt/openssl098d/lib:/usr/local/OpenLDAP.2.3/lib" as well as CPPFLAGS and LDFLAGS set with -I and -L flags for those two non-standard directories. This is all the same as what I had done before. After the make, make install, I went in to the installed directory and made as minimal changes as I could. I changed Listen port in the main httpd.conf to 8040 and the Listen port (as well as the VirtualHost port) in ssl.conf to 8045 so it wouldn't step on the toes of the production apache process. I then changed the User and Group directives in httpd.conf to the webadmin user which the other apache process runs as. Launched this just about plain jane apache using apachectl startssl. Connecting via http to 8040, everything looks fine. Connecting via https to port 8045 shows the behavior of child processing hanging in a waiting state. Am I wrong in thinking this is a permissions issue? Or perhaps something is funky with the fact that the SSL libraries are in a strange spot? I've tried adding the library path to envvars in apache3/bin and having PassEnv SHLIB_PATH in the httpd.conf. However, the WORKING installation is linked to these exact same libraries and although there's a PassEnv command in it's httpd.conf, nothing was added to envvars. If it *is* a permissions issue, what does mod_ssl need permission to get to in order to function properly? I notice that the ssl_scache.dir and ssl_scache.pag files are created in the logs directory, (though the .dir file is 0 bytes) both owned by webadmin, so that user can at least CREATE files in that directory.

Sounds like your system isn't generating enough entropy to me, which can affect SSL/TLS connections on lots of protocols. I have no experience of HP/UX though, so suggestions are limited... Which SSL libraries are you compiling mod_ssl against? OpenSSL, or some HP ones? Do you have /dev/random and /dev/urandom? If you do "cat /dev/random" and "cat /dev/urandom", what comes back? It'll be garbage, but do the rates differ significantly? When you start up this new Apache instance, what does it log in the error log? [EMAIL PROTECTED] Directory Vs Location.
Hi all. Can somebody please explain what the difference is between using the /directory/ directive and the /location/ directive in my apache httpd.conf file. Also when it is appropriate to use which. The reason I am asking is, I am trying to get Trac running with Apache and both Trac & Apache with mod_python installed work fine independently of one another. The path shown in the example is clearly a local file system directory so you should use Directory. [EMAIL PROTECTED] Overriding
I have an overarching directive that passes everything in my virtual host through a home-rolled handler. I would like create a few directory aliases, though, that bypass this handler. As far as I know, however, Locations are processed before Directories. How can I accomplish this? Thanks for the reply, Joshua. The is used because the handler implements a RESTful system where the urls do not map to the file system. Some urls, however, need to reference specific files, thus the Alias+. You can either be more specific in your sections -- they probably don't really need to cover EVERYTHING. Or you can try something like SetHandler default-handler Or you can play with to find a regex that excludes some specific URLs. Win98 cant even run wamp2, apache1.0.2, php2, mysql1.0. I have no clue why you are so reluctant because PHP is availible on all platforms now (in fact, windows is only recent -- php2 was the first version to be released for windows. windows 2000 to be exact.) Linux is going to be alot more stable for what you want. I have one (1) windows apache php mysql machine and it has its issues (usually because PHP5 was NOT made for windows, it was made for Linux/UNIX.)
