Three more experimental options: NFSv4 in the 2.6 kernel. Has the advantage of doing communication over a single socket, designed for longer latency connections, potential for delegation, etc. This "experimental" option is actually supposed to work. :-) You might want to try David Howell's cachefs with it; look in AKPM's -mm tree for the patches.] On the wildly experimental side, there is the Global Filesystem, GFS, which uses shared storage (ie., each UML would mount ubdX=<>). Source RPM packages can be found in the Fedora development tree: http://download.fedora.redhat.com:/pub/fedora/linux/core/development/SRPMS [Seems cvs.fedora.redhat.com is down until Monday.] If you need a network filesystem, you might have a look at v9fs ( http://v9fs.sourceforge.net/ ), which implements the 9P2000 protocol derived from Plan 9. Files are served from the host with u9fs, which runs as a normal user process over a single TCP socket. With any of these options, beware on non-POSIX filesystem semantics. [uml-user] UML networking freezes until "enter" hit
I'm at a loss to explain this: I have a UML that sometimes loses networking. Whenever this happens, it's been shortly after the nightly cron job. Networking is restored by simply tapping "enter" at the console. The console is sitting at "INIT: version 2.86 reloading" and "enter" brings the machine back to life instantly. The machine isn't frozen entirely, as syslog shows "mark"s through the inaccessible period, and programs connecting from the UML to itself (via localhost) continue to run. This is with 2.4.27-1um All of my machines run via fd input/output, and run inside "screen" as it's very easy to flip between the consoles this way. The guest OS is Debian/testing. Any ideas on how to debug this? --- This SF.Net email is sponsored by: IntelliVIEW -- Interactive Reporting Tool for open source databases. Create drag-&-drop reports. Save time by over 75%! [uml-user] UML port to PPC
Hi! I have read that uml port to ppc is done. Can somebody tell me if the port is to a 32-bit architecture or a 64-bit architecture. Where can i find more details about the uml port to ppc? Do you have anything like iptables running? What has a tcpdump shown you? Greeting list members in the Pacific Northwest. I would like to invite anyone on the list to the anual LinuxFest Northwest event on April 30, 2005. I was considering giving a presentation this year on Getting Started with UML, but I thought if there was anyone on the list in the area who was also interested, we might take the opportunity to discuss. I recommand to mount the filesystem on the host and use chroot . Use debootstrap inside the chroot. Then you have at least the same networking as the host. [uml-user] freeing memory in /tmp
Hey gang, I am having some problems with 2.6.9-bs6 guest umls not freeing memory in /tmp when they are shutdown. I know that this has been addressed on the mailing list in regards to killing a uml and the memory not getting freed, but I couldnt find anything about a proper shutdown having the same issue.
