[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1036830] [NEW] Xorg crash when logging in goes right back to log in screen

2012-08-14 Thread nate
Public bug reported:

On 8/13/2012 I updated ubuntu 12.10. Now when I try to log in the
system flashes a black screen and then puts me back at the log in
screen. Logging in as guest works. I tried adding a new user and
cannot log in with that user either.

I switched to gdm and logging in works fine.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1749340] Re: Upgrade to libinput 1.10 in bionic

2018-02-19 Thread Nate Graham
It would be really nice to get this for Bionic. It's full of nice
quality-of-life fixes for touchpad users.

We currently patch in the fix for
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=98839, and we could drop
that patch if we shipped 1.10.

2018-02-19 Thread Nate Graham
Yes, I'm saying we won't need to patch libinput with that patch anymore
if we ship with 1.10. Regardless, if I'm not making any sense here,
consider this to be a simple hearty +1 for the original premise of the
request!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1784161] [NEW] Mouse inoperative in other apps while Shotwell is uploading to Flickr

2018-07-28 Thread Nate B
Public bug reported:

I'm using Shotwell to Publish (ctrl+shift+P) photos to Flickr. Some of
these uploads take quite a while, so I'd like to do other things while
they're running. If I alt-tab over to Firefox or Slack or whatever, my
mouse works normally, but if I alt-tab back to Shotwell to peek if the
upload has completed yet, and then alt-tab over to another app again,
now my mouse doesn't work.

Pointer moves, yes. Doesn't produce mouse-over events, doesn't click,
doesn't scroll.

As soon as the upload completes in Shotwell, the mouse works normally
again.

I popped into freenode/#ubuntu IRC and they suggested trying Wayland.
This behavior does not occur in Wayland, so it was suggested that I
report it here under xorg. I'm running Ubuntu 18.04 LTS.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1784161] Re: Mouse inoperative in other apps while Shotwell is uploading to Flickr

2018-07-28 Thread Nate B
Adding some detail here: Switching back to xorg reproduces the bug 100%.
I can click on the launcher, it seems to be the only thing that'll
receive my clicks while the bug is active, but new apps launched while
the bug is active are also unable to see mouse clicks.

Kernel is 4.15.0-29-generic #31-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jul 17 15:39:52 UTC 2018
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

shotwell is 0.28.2 that came preinstalled, I've done nothing to it other
than import a folder of photos and authenticate with Flickr for my
upload key.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 550625] Re: Alps touchpad is recognized but synaptics clients and scrolling do not work

2011-09-01 Thread Nate Carlson
@Seth E6520.. seems to work fairly well so far, only thing I'm noticing
is that it seems to be much more sensitive - IE, if I am holding my
finger "still" on the touchpad, the pointer twitches around, which it
didn't with the psmouse driver. Can actually make it harder to click on
stuff. ;) That may be settings-related too..

Nailed it on the head. I'm on Natty.

For now, had to revert back to the old psmouse.. as I could hardly select
things.

My system locked up when removing psmouse as well.. and apparently
corrupted the modules table and (somehow) the nvidia module. I'm assuming
that dkms rebuilt the nvidia module along with the psmouse module, and the
data hadn't been committed to disk (er, ssd) yet.

I ended up having to purge the dkms psmouse package, wipe out the modules,
run a 'depmod -a', re-install the package and let it build, and then
reboot without trying to remove psmouse.. after that, the new driver
worked fine.

Patch on post 132 worked perfectly for me. Trackpad, two-finger touch
for right click and two-finger scroll function as they should.

It'd be nice to see some support from elantech on this, though, to get
the full range of features working properly. It really is a cool
trackpad... even though I'd kill for a regular synaptics after this
enormous hassle getting it working.

2012-04-03 Thread Nate Wiebe
Public bug reported:

When using 12.04, X will crash and send me to the login screen. This can
happen when working, or when the computer is idle.

I'm using version 295.33. I remember getting the same crash occuring on

this may or may not be the same bug.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 494166] Re: [lucid] nvidia-glx can't work with new xorg 7.5

2009-12-15 Thread Nate Wiebe
Shouldn't nvidia-glx-190 be added since it is the latest stable? Plus by
then there will most likely be a newer stable release anyways. The 190
drivers from the nvidia-vdpau ppa have not been updated yet for xorg
7.5. There are 195 drivers (beta) that don't conflict, but they do not
show up in Hardware Drivers for activation.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1020893] Re: can not login X, it crash

2012-07-29 Thread Nate Muench (Mink)
If you need GUI add my Programs PPA
(https://launchpad.net/~n-muench/+archive/programs-ppa/+packages) to
your Quantal machine. It should be close enough to what will be
eventually put into Quantal.

I moved it from the Testing repo to this one so it doesn't also install
my work-in-progress update of open-vm-tools.
