[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1574667] Re: Mouse pointer occasionally jumps to the bottom-left corner

2017-07-29 Thread Peter
The solution proposed by Juan Hernandez (message 32) worked for me. I am
running Xubuntu 16.04 on a Dell Inspiron 3542. I finally decided to look
for a fix after successfully using a wireless mouse for some time. I did
not have to modify /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/90-libinput.conf as some
others did.

I have the same issue but have not investigated further as yet.
I have recently upgraded however the issue was there before. I'm leaning toward
a hardware issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1492580] [NEW] Display corruption

2015-09-05 Thread Peter
Public bug reported:

I am running a newly installed and updated Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS on a
Samsung P500 Laptop (Model NP-P500I, NP-P500-RA01DE). I guess this issue
is related to the graphics card, which is a Radeon Xpress 1250.

The display corruption occurs directly after login on the top of the
screen and i mentioned something at the bottom of the search window. I
attached screenshots of it.

I see similar corruption with ubuntu 15.04.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1831162] [NEW] Xorg freeze

2019-05-30 Thread Peter
Public bug reported:

Nvidia driver 430 is definitely the cause of freezing. I have
reinstalled ubunutu twice! I also use an EGPU with my system, the 1080
ti. I have an nvidia dgpu, the 1050 ti. My computer is the dell xps 15
9570. I have finally achieved a stable system state with the nvidia
418.67 driver. So what I did was installed the lasted release of cuda
10.1 via the local run file method. That method allows you to install
the 418.67 driver and cuda 10.1 all in a nice package. I also have
nouveau.modeset=0 in grub set to run on every boot. I also uncommented
the wayfarenabled=false. I also use gswitcher, a small program designed
to make the xorg conf file for the egpu.

I have disabled secure boot and cstates

Good luck fixing nvidia driver 430.

Thank you for your dedication!

Peter

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1831347] [NEW] Xorg freeze - update

2019-06-01 Thread Peter
Public bug reported:

Dear Ubuntu,

Thank you for taking the time to read this report. My last report stated
that nvidia-430 driver was the problem. I have since reinstalled ubuntu
18.4 and carefully followed the EGPU setup provided online using
gswitch. I should note that last install I forgot to add "systemctl
enable gswitch". I have noticed far fewer issues. Interestingly, I also
enabled autologin for my account. This appears to have helped the
problem significantly. I did try switching to regular password required
at login and the freezing / hanging did occur during some web browsing
but it was only for about 5 - 10 seconds. I then immediately switched
back to autologins and I have not noticed any freezing or hanging! I
believe the problem with regular password req logins is that it causes
my internal display (laptop screen) to be enabled first during the login
when I enter my password. After I enter my password the internal display
turns off and then I use my external display only as I have that
confiured in the ubuntu device settings. But with autologin, the
computer boots momentarily to internal screen when you see the ubuntu
dots sliding to the right and then into gnome.

So it appears using autologin is more stable when using an EGPU with
external display only! I am using nvidia-430 drivers.

So I think gdm3 needs an update or X11 needs an update so that it can
honor the external display better? Anyways! I will keep you posted.

Thanks for your dedication guys!!

Take care,

Peter

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 863459] Re: Really bad artifacting on Lenovo S10 after upgrade to Oneiric

2011-10-17 Thread peter
This affects me too. Thanks for the picture. At first I thought the
artifacts were caused by compiz when I was swtching between viewports
with Ctrl-Alt left/right/up/down. But now I see that dragging a window
within the same viewport causes the artifacting. So was guessing this is
a compiz issue. It's also my experience that the problem goes away with
unity-2d. And the problem only arose after upgrading to oneiric from
natty.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1559421] [NEW] [Asus P5Q SE] Resume from Standby mode doesn't work with Nouveau

2016-03-19 Thread Peter
Public bug reported:

I'm using the Nouveau driver with my graphics board (Geforce GT210),
standby mode (a.k.a. suspend-to-ram) does not work from 13 March 2016.
Initially it worked fine until 13 March 2016.

Going into standby mode itself works, but when I turn my PC back on, the
monitor shows black screen or computer begins to boot from the start.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1284318] Re: alternate finger tapping causes cursor to jump

2014-08-29 Thread Peter
I am having the same problem.

I slide my mouse to something, then click my mouse button, but my mouse
jumps across the screen before I get the click.

I'm confident there is a way to use synclient to ignore taps in the
button area and hopefully mitigate the annoyance, but I haven't found it
yet. Any temporary solutions?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 478031] Re: Mouse buttons not registering clicks correctly

2009-11-19 Thread peter
It also happens here, Dell Precision M4400 running Ubuntu 9.10 (problem was
already present in 9.04).
xorg version is 1:7.4+3ubuntu7.

It only happens a few times a day, difficult to reproduce in xev.
I am mostly working with the mouse stick and its related mouse buttons. At some
point, the mouse pointer does not react on clicks from these buttons any more.
What mostly helps is pressing the (left) button associated with the touchpad.
There seems to be some interference between the buttons associated with the
stick and those associated with the touchpad. In some cases, however, only a
switch to the console via CTRL+ALT+F1 or even a restart of X helps.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 465280] Re: eeepc 1000h freeces after klicking Apply extended desktop

2009-10-30 Thread Peter
This only happens if i put the two monitors horizontaly next to another.
---–

| ||
| ||
|---–|-–-|

if i put the two monitors vertical
---–

---–

-–-
this works.

May there is a problem with the virtual resolution. In the horizontal mode it
should be 3004x1080
and in the vertical mode it should be: 1980x1680

May 3004x1080 is to big. With Ubuntu 9.04 did this properties work.
Thx

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 469640] Re: Missing display resolutions (too much memory bandwidth)

2010-04-30 Thread Peter
I just did an in-place upgrade 8.04 LTS -> 10.04 LTS (64 bit) on a
machine with a MGA-G200, and this bug is still there (10.04 LTS uses X
Server 1.7.6). As a result, I cannot use the 1280x1024 mode, which is
really annoying, as it was working fine on 8.04 LTS. Is there any chance
that this will get fixed?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 469640] Re: Missing display resolutions (too much memory bandwidth)

2010-05-04 Thread Peter
I have resolved the problem after comparing the 8.04 LTS and 10.04 LTS
Xorg.0.log files. Under 8.04 LTS the MGA driver was defaulting to

(**) MGA(0): Depth 16, (--) framebuffer bpp 16

Under 10.04 LTS it is defaulting to

(**) MGA(0): Depth 24, (--) framebuffer bpp 32

which is the cause of the bandwidth problem. Setting "DefaultFbBpp 24"
in the "Screen" section of xorg.conf enables the 1280x1024 mode, but all
screen operations are very slow. The combination of "DefaultDepth 16"
and "DefaultFbBpp 16" provides completely acceptable performance which
is, in fact, a bit faster than under 8.04 LTS.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 578899] Re: Screen flickers

2010-05-11 Thread Peter
Ive found a solution.

just open ubuntu normally and open terminal

write:
sudo edit /etc/default/grub

then find this line:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX ""

then make it like this:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX " i915.powersave=0 "

then save , then back to terminal and write:
sudo update-grub;

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 538648] Re: [Intel GM45] Irregular sync flashes on 8086:2a42 (Needs i915.powersave quirk)

2010-05-24 Thread Peter
Andy no flicker Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop
I added then deleted the i915.powersave=0
from line
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX "i915.powersave=0 "
and loaded the new 64bit patched kernal located in your link and
no flicker. (the i915.powersave=0 fix worked for me) It has only been a day
but i think its a winner it works.(little too early to tell though100 percent)
I don't know what a FBC is, buts thats fine by me lol.
P.S.
I started a blog a while back still going, same Issue
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1473580
I also posted a bug report so there is a duplicate out there.
Thanks

Getting a flicker again not bad, one or two a day, so it was hard to know if
this kernal thing
works or not, well I guess it doesn't for me.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1978980] Re: [amdgpu] Wrong external screen resolution after wake up from sleep

2025-04-04 Thread Peter
My computer has the same problems: Kubuntu 24.04, Wayland, AMD Graphics
with Philips 499. The resolution jumps from 5120x1440 59.94 Hz to
3840x1080 after waking up from a longer break. After a restart,
everything is back to normal. I suspect it is due to the AMD driver.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2043215] Re: Since upgrading to Ubuntu 23.10, the stylus (pen) does not work in Xorg.

2023-11-14 Thread Peter Freeth
Same problem. Under Xorg, the Wacom tablet can move the pointer but as
soon as I tap to click, the system locks up. Pressing alt tab a few
times restores movement to the pointer. The Wacom is therefore unusable
under Xorg. Sadly, in GIMP it's also unusable under Wayland as the
pointers are invisible.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1171342]

2013-12-05 Thread Peter Hutterer
Do you have a test case for this? I knocked up a simple one with two XI2
clients, one creating a window with enter/leave on a window, one with
enter/leave on the button grab on the root window. Neither client gets
an event and a printf in the server shows nothing is written onto the
wire either (only the button event to activate the grab).

If I change to an active grab + ungrab, I get the events correctly.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1238437] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in OsAbort()

2014-01-08 Thread Peter Bašista
Hi Christopher,

since I was having multiple issues when using the nvidia's proprietary
driver, I have recently started to use the noveau driver instead.
Therefore I can not confirm whether this is still an issue with the
newest updates on 13.10. However, there have been other kind of
problems with the noveau driver as well, so I am not exactly satisfied
with the current state and I will gladly try the 14.04 beta. As soon
as I have time, I will install it and should there be issues, I will
make sure to report them.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1238188] Re: [HP Compaq dc5850 Small Form Factor PC] No desktop effects on a radeon 3100 graphics card in saucy

2014-01-09 Thread Hans-Peter
Christopher, I tried with the latest kubuntu image. Unfortunately the desktop
was not usable, because the mouse was missing and the desktop was only half
build (kicker was missing...) but I was able to switch to a console screen and
have a look at the /var/log/Xorg.0.log. I found a lot of entries of the RADEON
driver, showing good progress. There was no warning or error. So I guess, the
issue is fixed in the trusty release. How should we proceed?

Hans-Peter

Christopher, I've already done this. First of all, I tried Ubuntu. But this was
not very successful. It advanced up to the 'Ubuntu' writing. From there on, the
red dot hopped until I stopped the system. I let it hop for about 5 minutes.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1238188] Re: [HP Compaq dc5850 Small Form Factor PC] No desktop effects on a radeon 3100 graphics card in saucy

2014-01-13 Thread Hans-Peter
Christopher, I've already tried this earlier in the process (tried to bisect
the kernel), but failed on it. Also I guess, bisecting is not really
necessary, because we know the point in time when the error arose. On the other
hand, in Trusty the problem is most possible solved. My plan now is, to try the
latest development release every week or so. If the issue is definitely gone,
I'll report it in this bug report. Agree?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1002224] Re: Please include gallium vdpau and xvmc driver support

2014-01-20 Thread Peter Frühberger
To bump that issue a bit. We are running self made packages by wsnipex
(https://launchpad.net/~wsnipex) since more than 6 months now. Trusty
would bring everything (kernel, mesa, etc.) to be in really good shape
for OSS radeon with vdpau.

If you need some background information or even want to see it in
action, have look here: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=174854

It would be really nice to have that relevant package included in trusty
by default. Remember: Slow AMD E350 Fusion CPU are not able to play any
HD content on their CPU, therefore GPU decoding support is a must.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 795920]

2012-05-01 Thread Peter Hutterer
(In reply to comment #10)
> Would a patch be less likely to be accepted if it doesn't separate the LED
> support from the disable support?

yes. I don't want crazy in-driver functionality for touchpads that don't
need it. There should be discovery of that feature and it should only be
exposed when the LED is available.

note that we'll likely need to query the LED state as well to avoid
getting the touchpad into an inconsistent state (disabled, when it's
actually enabled etc.)

looking through linux/input.h, we should send KEY_TOUCHPAD_ON/OFF when
that button is pressed. The clients can then decide what to do, rather
than having this behaviour enforced in the driver.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 247771] Re: [M4] Dell Inspiron 8000 shows split display on LiveCD

2012-05-07 Thread St Peter
rogress indicator was
duplicated and\or half visible on other places than the right one. It
(the screen) seemed to flash more than before with the Ubuntu 8.04
  stable version.

Though the graphics has slightly improved pointing devices has
actually worsened since Ubuntu 8.04. Under the Intrepid Ibex Alpha 4
neither the laptops keyboard pointing stick or mousepad worked neither
could an USB HID compliant wired mouse from A4Tech with 2 wheels and 3
  buttons I tried.

The sound did not work out of box with Ubuntu 8.04 we need to test
this as well though it should be filed under a new bug that can be
  linked to this one.

Haven't tested the IR port or the docking station since I don't own
  one.

I will continue to report findings with later versions of the Alphas
and Betas during the test up to release. I suspect though that my
CD\DVD drive might be damaged and might not work properly or that my
CD Burner not quite burns good images of the ISO files so if anyone
else can help test this bug, it wont depend only on my findings.

New test with Ubuntu 8.10 Beta:
  Done on: 2008-10-15
Both as Live CD and installed with Wubi:

  Test 1: Live CD
Result: Still corrupts display. Still no pointing device support nor full
keyboard support though GNOME insist that their is support for the laptops
keyboard.

Test 2: Live CD + external display

Result: Works on laptop display with native resolution but external
display not working at all. You only have to log out of GNOME and
remove the external display and log back in to again get the corrupted
display. Somehow the external display helps. Don't know why though.
External display isn't recognized in the screen resolution dialog. The
screens resolution isn't changeable to a lower resolution though. Its
a Samsung 21 inch LCD display model: 213T. Still no pointing device
support nor full keyboard support though GNOME insist that their is
  support for the laptops keyboard.

  Test 3 Installed with Wubi:

Result: Corrupts display image. Still no pointing device support nor
full keyboard support though GNOME insist that their is support for
  the laptops keyboard.

Test 4 Installed with wubi + external display:

Result: Just like the Live CD + external display picture returns to normal on
the laptop screen but no image can be seen on the external display. Desktop is
in the displays native resolution and you can remove the external display
without anything happening as long as you dont log out and in again. The screens
resolution isn't changeable to a lower resolution though.
Still no pointing device support nor full keyboard support though GNOME
insist that their is support for the laptops keyboard.

Because of the problems in testing this laptop I have been forced to
resort to test it with an external display, keyboard and mouse that is
supported. Though the test mostly was done only with an external mouse
since some keys on the keyboard worked and since my user name and
password was very simple I luckily could log in with a more
complicated one I would not be able to have done that. Especialy the
keys on the middel was not functioning. Like G,H,T,Y,U,J,B,N,M and
  more.

I also will upload some log files since I now have been able to grab them so
look out for them here.
Logfile 1: live.cd.xorg.0.log is the log file from the Live CD running
without external display that I managed to copy
Logfile 2: wubi.ext.display.xorg.0.log is the copy of the log file that I
copied from the wubi installation with an external display connected.
Just remove anything "Before" xorg in the filename to get the original
filename as seen when copied.

Anyone have any thoughts on why it seems to work with an external
  display somewhat?

  Cheers Peter

I use dual monitor display. I switch to dual display in the "Display and

dual mode is done correctly, but when I switch back to single mode (eg:
disable the external VGA), Xorg completly crashes, both of the monitors
show nesties, and no keyboard response (unable to switch to text console
with alt+ctrl+F1)

As I can see, other functionality of the OS continue work, I can connect
to my PC with SSH from another host. Xorg process uses 100% of CPU after
the crash, and the only thing that helps is killing the Xorg process by
SIGKILL.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 591656]

2012-05-10 Thread Peter Hutterer
Please submit a evemu recording of the device. I've converted the
evtest-capture file but it's not quite enough.

Specifically, I need:
- the event log of the bug when the cursor jumps (the previous file contained
that)
- an event log of scrolling in that scroll area on the right
- an event log of movement in the left edge that wasn't working with my
previous patch applied

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 965003] Re: dell mini 10v touchpad dragging stopped working

2012-05-15 Thread Peter Hultqvist
I have experienced the same behavior as Rick described in comment #7.

Although minor I would still consider it a bug.
The reasoning is that a hardware button press should always register as a mouse
press event since it is intentional.

This specific hardware has been troublesome over time giving users the
habit of only pressing the button without "touching" the touchpad on
top, thus the fingernail click. But It can also be that you are leaning
your finger towards the edge and thus making a fingernail click a
natural rollover.

Anyway, as stated above, since it is a hardware button with tactile
feedback it should always register as a click.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 573924] Re: Losing left mouse button(s)

2012-05-17 Thread Peter Gulka
Confirmed in just about every implementation of X. I have this problem
on any flavour of Linux on my laptop switching between 2 mice.

To make it more interesting the mouse randomly jumps from one part of
the screen to another, seems to reject the call to release the left
mouse button, and randomly right-clicks on its own. My system is
unusable as a result. I really should make a video...

Potential bug fix here, but I have no idea how to run the patch:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 965003] Re: dell mini 10v touchpad dragging stopped working

2012-05-23 Thread Peter Hultqvist
It appears the hardware buttons are disabled when there is no finger
touching the touchpad above the buttons.

This makes it impossible to middle click by pressing both left and right mouse
button at once.
I tried keeping a third finger on the touchpad as the workaround for left click
but it does not work for middle click.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 898784] Re: Distorted screen on MacBook Air 3, 2 (GT216 10de:08a3)

2012-05-24 Thread Peter Hedlund
Well, 12.04 runs fine with a 3.3 kernel. The real problem is that the
bug is back in the 3.4 kernel including the final release and there has
been no fix during the entire rc-cycle. Also, so far no comment from an
involved developer.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 898784] Re: Distorted screen on MacBook Air 3, 2 (GT216 10de:08a3)

2012-06-04 Thread Peter Hedlund
I think 3.4 is a lost cause. The problem is fixed in 3.5-rc1 although I
have had some instability issues that I hope will improve. The drm pull
request for 3.5 (http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/dri-
devel/2012-May/023395.html) contains this comment which I think is the
relevant part:

drm/nouveau/disp: fix dithering not being enabled on some eDP macbooks

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 898784] Re: Distorted screen on MacBook Air 3, 2 (GT216 10de:08a3)

2012-06-05 Thread Peter Hedlund
Yes, assuming that is the relevant patch. I have not done any
compilation, but the code is in a file called nouveau_connector.c and
3.4 and 3.5 are similar enough to do a backport. In the Precise kernel
3.2 the code is very different.

However, right now I don't really see the point. Precise works fine with
a 3.3 kernel and I assume Quantal will use 3.5 or 3.6. We just have to
make sure there are no further regressions.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1608042] Re: 64-bit XUbuntu 16.04 "Xenial" hybrid graphics (Intel + AMD): AMDGPU crashes / freezes / hangs entire system

2016-07-30 Thread Peter Wu
Yuri, please do not add the whole hybrid-graphic-linux mailing list, it
might be a bit noisy.

The error from comment 6 is the same as in
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=93460, though under
different circumstances.

The amdgpu driver is under development by AMD and your hardware is quite new.
Can you try to install a newer kernel from
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.7/ and see if the issue is
resolved?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1574667] Re: Mouse pointer occasionally jumps to the bottom-left corner

2016-12-30 Thread Peter B.
I have been experiencing the identical problem on my new Dell XPS 15
touchscreen laptop running Ubuntu 16.04 fully patched. Two problems
actually:

(1) touchpad mouse pointer randomly jumps to the bottom left corner,
which frustratingly can result in the trash application opening up, and
at least having to reset the mouse pinter back to where you need it.

(2) mouse pointer too often also jumps backwards several characters so
you wind up typing in the middle of your sentence.

Both of the above problems become frustrating enough that you want to
throw the laptop across the room, LOL. It happened to me like 3-4 times
just typing this. Windows is also on this computer and has no such
issues.

Ubuntu, this has really got to be fixed.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1574667] Re: Mouse pointer occasionally jumps to the bottom-left corner

2016-12-30 Thread Peter B.
PS: I realized I needed to point out corrections to my previous post
about my Dell XPS 15 which is running Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, as follows:

(1) touchpad mouse pointer randomly jumps to the bottom left corner,
which frustratingly can result in the trash application opening up since
one might be trying to click an application, and at least having to move
the mouse pointer back to where you need it. (this is not related to
touchscreen. this is touchpad issue)

(2) text typing ... too often the position jumps backwards several
characters so you wind up typing in the middle of your sentence, and
sometimes jumps elsewhere in the text field. Just typing this, it
jumped once or twice as I said.

2017-02-09 Thread Peter B.
The previously posted Juan workaround also worked for me too on the Dell
XPS 15 running Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. Thank you all. :-)

Patch system first, then do the following fixes posted by Juan and
others (see previous posts).

sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-input-libinput
sudo apt-get remove --purge xserver-xorg-input-synaptics

vim /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/90-libinput.conf

InputClass #Inside the sections for pointer and touchpad
Option "NaturalScrolling" "true" #note I used this
Option "AccelSpeed" "-0.5"#note I tried this - made mouse too slow
- commented it.

Reboot.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 763052] Re: Ubuntu can't boot on nvidia GeForce GT240 with nouveau drivers

2012-10-20 Thread Peter Wagner
Tried again the actual nouveau driver, with the same result: The screen
displyed only some relics of former activity, no work possible in Ubuntu.
REISUB properly restarts.
The worst: A restart into recovery mode freezes at the stage, where a selection
is expected (resume of boot, start in text mode etc.). No input is accepted,
REISUB shows no response.
I modified the grub booting line (pressing 'e') and replaced "quit splash" by
nomodeset and was able to enable the non-propriety driver again. Uff!
