[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 926714] Re: continuous jerky mouse movements while using nouveau driver in 12.04
me and a colleague also can confirm this problem on Lenovo T410. I found another bug report with a similar symptom https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/746084 and also a link to a workaround: http://souriguha.wordpress.com/2011/03/08/how-to-solve-problem-with-thinkpadkslowd-kworker-on-linux-kernel-2-35-2-36/ This seems to fix it for me. Maybe others can try that? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 998741] [NEW] Xorg/nouveau crashes when switching notebook monitor back on
Public bug reported: A colleague and me are using Ubuntu 12.04 on Lenovo T410s [Nvidia NVS 3100M] in combination with a docking station and an external monitor and noticed following bug: Using the graphical tool for switching monitors: if you disable the internal notebook monitor, only using the external one, everything works fine (internal monitor is black). However, when you now try to reenable the internal monitor again (so having an extended desktop with both monitors), the external monitor goes black and both screens stay off. Looking at Xorg.0.log via SSH shows that some part of Xorg or the nouveau driver crashed. This happens both in 32 bit and 64 bit version of 12.04 and both in a fully updated system as well as when started as live system from USB stick. One way to prevent this from happening is to use xrandr --auto, then both monitors are in clone mode and you can use the graphical tool again for setting up your desired configuration. ** Affects: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: precise -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/998741 Title: Xorg/nouveau crashes when switching notebook monitor back on To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/998741/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2037642] Re: [FFe] Raspberry Pi 5 support
Added text to the release notes [1] detailing Pi 5 support, including the planned SRU of libcamera support. Can others double-check the raspberry pi sections look reasonable, and let me know if we want to mention anything else specific? I've also updated the "known issues" section, removing a couple of bits (totem now works and the audio output selection is now sane out of the box), and adding others (slide corruption on the pi4 during installation). Again, if there's anything missing that should be mentioned please either let me know or feel free to add it yourself! [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2075337] Re: [SRU] py3clean fails when using alternate character set
@mfo re: comment 91 on nordugrid: I've re-uploaded with the (horrible :) spacing restored. The Breaks being against nordugrid-arc-arex and nothing else is indeed deliberate and correct. The bug only affects those binary packages which 1) contain python modules (which this package does) and 2) are affected by diversions (which this package is). The python3-nordugrid package satisfies the first condition, but isn't affected by diversions so it isn't affected. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 373516] Re: xorg doesn't r ecognize the non-ASCII variant of character ” in xorg.conf
Well, to be honest with you, I think that it should handle this particular situation by treating the quote character as a quote character. I fully expected to be able to paste the chunk of text above into xorg.conf by sudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf clicking the last line and pressing control V. Like I mentioned, I couldn't tell the difference at first glance between the special non-ascii quotes and the ones I get by pressing the quote character. Do I think thats a reasonable expectation? no. For now, if X tells me the reason it crashed is because I gave it non-ascii characters in its conf file, that would be a good pointer to me for how to fix it. Telling me that xorg.conf is corrupted, while accurate, doesn't help me narrow down the exact cause. (If i'm remembering the exact error message it gives wrong let me know. I tried it a few days ago and could easily be mis-remembering) Or, if its not unreasonable to do this, is there a way that X can look through the file and say to itself "hmm, this isn't an ascii character, but it could represent a quote character in the specific encoding its using. Does the conf file make sense if i treat it as a quote?" Is this a better job for a special program? I think Matrin makes a good point that bringing X to the point where editing Xorg.conf would solve many problems. -Mike -- xorg doesn't recognize the non-ASCII variant of character ” in xorg.conf https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/373516 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1612241] [NEW] Display blinking on MST Dual Monitors
Public bug reported: I have two Dell U2715H monitors, one running in MST 2.0 mode, one running in MST 1.0 mode (the terminator). My laptop is plugged via mini display port into the MST 2.0 enabled monitor. The MST 1.0 monitor is daisychained from displayport out on the MST 2.0 monitor, to the displayport in on the MST 1.0 monitor. I'm using the default cabling provided with the monitors. I am running Ubuntu 16.04 The laptop is a Dell XPS 13 9333 - it is plugged into the mains. Cables are not loose. The setup works almost without issue, but: Actual Result: 1. The monitors take it in turns to blink once - off, then back on, for 4 seconds at a time, seemingly randomly. 2. Any given monitor often blinks off, 4 seconds, then on when pressing play on a youtube video 3. Any given monitor usually blinks off, 4 seconds, then on when dragging a window from the other monitor, onto it. Expected result: Monitors should be constantly on, at all times. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1612241] Re: Display blinking on MST Dual Monitors
This problem appears to be getting worse. The displays are blinking a lot more regularly now, and sometimes both at the same time. Furthermore, the secondary monitor (MST 1.0) which is configured as my secondary screen, will, once per day, blink off, and when it comes back on, the lower 3/4 of the screen is interlaced - i.e. missing every other line. The top 1/4 displays fine, but the picture is offset somewhat, so it's displaying the incorrect part of the screen there. I have to turn the display off in settings, then turn it back on, and then rearrange my monitor layout (they become swapped when this happens) in order to recover it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1612241 Title: Display blinking on MST Dual Monitors To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1612241/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

I think I have the same problem on an Acer Aspire 5920 laptop. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1453302] Re: Linux kernel freeze (it seems in current/3.19.0-17) on Dell Inspiron 1525
Additional info. Possibly irrelevant. Using Firefox I have noticed a screen corruption that seems to occur after some time idle. The same problem occurred on Ubuntu 14.04. It suggests to me that somewhere deep in the graphics driver something is amiss. To use the Google Chrome browser I have had to un-check 'Use hardware acceleration when available' to prevent the browser from crashing. Attached is the dmesg output from a successful boot of 3.19.0-16-generic which may be helpful. Whether booting successfully or not just before the grub menu the following is reported: ACPI PCC Probe Failed. This is apparently benign. ** Attachment added: "Output of dmesg command" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1453302/+attachment/4394792/+files/dmesg.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1453302 Title: Linux kernel freeze (it seems in current/3.19.0-17) on Dell Inspiron 1525 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1453302/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1891613] Re: libraspberrypi0 not installable
Looks like the armhf version of the package builds two (identical) copies of various GL-related libs (EGL, GLESv2, etc): one with "mesa- like" names (e.g. libEGL.so) and one with broadcom-specific names (e.g. libbrcmEGL.so). In either case, the produced libraries are for use with the "legacy" graphics stack supported on the Pi 0 thru 3. The Pi 4 and beyond only support the mesa graphics stack (which is why these aren't built on arm64 as the Pi Foundation only (officially) support arm64 on the Pi 4). I've added a patch to a build here which should suppress the production of the "mesa-like" libs while leaving the broadcom-specific named copies (as they seem to be in use by several groups), and tidied up the lintian warnings on the armhf build. Will upload a copy to my userland PPA shortly. ** Patch added: "Add a patch to prevent building the mesa-named libs on armhf" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libglvnd/+bug/1891613/+attachment/5401473/+files/dont-build-mesa-libs.debdiff -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to libglvnd in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1891613 Title: libraspberrypi0 not installable To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libglvnd/+bug/1891613/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1065166] Re: Xorg uses 100% CPU for ~7s when maximizing Terminator window
I don't think this can be a Terminator bug, we aren't doing anything special when we are maximised. It might be worth checking your terminator preferences to see what the background setting is - perhaps it's set to be transparent and that is placing a high burden on your X server? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 934707] [NEW] emachine e725 boots to black screen
Public bug reported: Booting to a black screen, however a flashlight shows a faint login window. I can login, hear the startup sound, but still a black screen. Again a flashlight on the screen shows a faint desktop. I am assuming the backlight on the laptop is not responding. Pressing the function key and brightness adjustment keys does nothing. As a work around, adding the boot paramater acip_osi=Linux to Grub on startup allows me to have a screen, However, the function dim keys make it brighter while the function brighter keys make the screen dimmer. lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu precise (development branch) Release:12.04 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04 Package: xorg 1:7.6+10ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.2.0-16.25-generic 3.2.6 Uname: Linux 3.2.0-16-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: wl .tmp.unity.support.test.0: ApportVersion: 1.91-0ubuntu1 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: [core, bailer, detection, composite, opengl, compiztoolbox, decor, dbus, mousepoll, regex, imgpng, gnomecompat, place, animation, session, move, resize, snap, vpswitch, winrules, grid, fade, workarounds, cube, expo, ezoom, scale, rotate, unityshell] CompositorRunning: compiz Date: Fri Feb 17 22:26:05 2012 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: precise DistroVariant: ubuntu DkmsStatus: bcmwl, 5.100.82.38+bdcom, 3.2.0-15-generic, x86_64: installed bcmwl, 5.100.82.38+bdcom, 3.2.0-16-generic, x86_64: installed ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes, if not too technical GraphicsCard: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:2a42] (rev 09) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Acer Incorporated [ALI] Device [1025:0212] Subsystem: Acer Incorporated [ALI] Device [1025:0212] InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS "Precise Pangolin" - Alpha amd64 (20120119) MachineType: eMachines eMachines E725 ProcEnviron: PATH=(custom, no user) LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.2.0-16-generic root=UUID=5dad1fe6-2c79-4412-ae39-0307a2f6db3e ro acpi_osi=Linux SourcePackage: xorg Symptom: display UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) dmi.bios.date: 12/16/2009 dmi.bios.vendor: eMachines dmi.bios.version: V3.04 dmi.board.asset.tag: Base Board Asset Tag dmi.board.name: eMachines E725 dmi.board.vendor: eMachines dmi.board.version: V3.04 dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: eMachines dmi.chassis.version: V3.04 dmi.modalias: dmi:bvneMachines:bvrV3.04:bd12/16/2009:svneMachines:pneMachinesE725:pvrV3.04:rvneMachines:rneMachinesE725:rvrV3.04:cvneMachines:ct10:cvrV3.04: dmi.product.name: eMachines E725 dmi.product.version: V3.04 dmi.sys.vendor: eMachines version.compiz: compiz 1:0.9.7.0~bzr2995-0ubuntu4 version.ia32-libs: ia32-libs N/A version.libdrm2: libdrm2 2.4.30-1ubuntu1 version.libgl1-mesa-dri: libgl1-mesa-dri 8.0~rc2-0ubuntu5 version.libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental: libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental N/A version.libgl1-mesa-glx: libgl1-mesa-glx 8.0~rc2-0ubuntu5 version.xserver-xorg-core: xserver-xorg-core 2:1.11.4-0ubuntu3 version.xserver-xorg-input-evdev: xserver-xorg-input-evdev 1:2.6.99.901+git20120126-0ubuntu2 version.xserver-xorg-video-ati: xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.14.99~git20111219.aacbd629-0ubuntu2 version.xserver-xorg-video-intel: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.17.0-1ubuntu4 version.xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:0.0.16+git20111201+b5534a1-1build2 ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug compiz-0.9 has-workaround precise single-occurrence ubuntu -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/934707 Title: emachine e725 boots to black screen To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/934707/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 934707] Re: emachine e725 boots to black screen
Canonical Kernel Team Archive for June, 2011 Brad Figg Kernel Team Meeting Minutes Status: General Oneiric We’ve almost resolved all the issues from the v3.0 fallout. We’re just wrestling with module-init-tools to get depmod sorted out. We’ve rebased to v3.0-rc2 and pushed to master-next. With v3.0-rc2, there’s an issue on boot (black screen of death) when the i915 driver is loaded. This can be worked around using i915.modeset=0 at the moment. There’s also reported boot issues on some system’s with atom processors on at least v3.0-rc1. So, I’m a bit hesitant to upload at the moment knowing we’ll break some common hardware use cases. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/934707 Title: emachine e725 boots to black screen To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/934707/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 383252] [NEW] Bad pixels & other artifacts on fonts
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Fonts in a number of programs are broken, though still readable. I'm using the default Ubuntu jaunty install, nothing fancy. http://i39.tinypic.com/1jlydc.jpg http://i44.tinypic.com/jz9ox5.jpg Programs where this commonly occurs are the desktop, gnome-terminal, pidgin, and firefox. Xchat seems to be immune, for reasons I don't understand. In some places it's noticeably worse than others. Occasionally there are large black lines running through the fonts. Rebooting does not make the problem disappear. On resume I dropped to a console and killed vinagre, suspecting it might be causing the problem. -- lost use of mouse on resume https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/385370 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 385370] Re: lost use of mouse on resume
This is completely reproducible in karmic: 1. Run vinagre, connect to a remote host. maximise the window 2. Ensure the mouse is within the vnc widget (ie events are being sent to the remote host) 3. Close your laptop so it suspends 4. Open your laptop 5. Marvel at your inability to send useful events to things 6. Drop to a console, killall vinagre, you can now send keyboard events 7. lock display, unlock. all is now normal.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 402178] [NEW] gzopen64 implicitly converted to pointer
Public bug reported: Function `gzopen64' implicitly converted to pointer at ../../src/common_device_name.c:62 Our automated build log filter[1] detected the problem(s) above that will likely cause your package to segfault on 64-bit architectures (where the size of a pointer is greater than the size of an integer.) This is often due to a missing function prototype definition. For more information, see [2]. Since use of implicitly converted pointers is always (eventually and/or itermittantly) fatal to the application, they are errors. Please correct them for your next upload.
