[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 338598] Re: [g41] [West Lake] Ubuntu 8.10: System unable to detect optimized graphic resolution.

2009-05-11 Thread Jerone Young
@bryce
 The kernel changes are already in the proposed repository for the
kernel. What is need is the xorg intel driver to also add the proper PCI ids.
linux-image-2.6.27-14-generic_2.6.27-14.33_i386.deb is from the proposed
repository for Intrepid according to David Chen.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 338598] Re: [g41] [West Lake] Ubuntu 8.10: System unable to detect optimized graphic resolution.

2009-05-11 Thread Jerone Young
Bryce the point of this bug is to fix it in Intrepid. We have the kernel
fixes already in the proposed repository and to close this bug as fixed
we require the PCI id patch to be added to xorg intel driver.

Please see title of bug. We have know it is working in Jaunty.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 338598] Re: [g41] [West Lake] System unable to detect optimized graphic resolution.

2009-05-12 Thread Jerone Young
Today customer has made a decision to move to 9.04 for the West Lake
platform and any other G41 based machines. So adding support for G41 is
no longer needed for Intrepid.

Thank you.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 385658] Re: karmic alpha2 candidate doesn't boot up on Studio XPS 1340

2009-06-26 Thread Jerone Young
This justification on this issue is it was an issue in Jaunty that got
fixed before release. When users install Ubuntu 9.10 on a Studio XPS
1340 they can not get graphics at all and xorg fails. This is because
this machine uses Nvidia Hybrid graphics, and the graphics core trying
to be used is not supported by the nv driver.

The patches that fixed this in Jaunty apparently didn't make into
upstream xorg or something has changed. The patches in Jaunty would
actually use the first graphics card found on the bus. In this case and
other hybrid card cases that card is the one that is supported by the
open source driver.

  To use this patch you will have to know how to apply patches &
compile a kernel properly. As you can see from previous posts it does work. We
are awaiting for the Ubuntu kernel team to integrate the patch into a kernel
that is easy to consume. That way you will not have to use "nomodeset" to get

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 297245] Re: [i965] Dell Studio 15 White Screen on X startup

2009-10-29 Thread Jerone Young
@adamaze

 So do you get the Ubuntu logo when you first bootup? The white Ubuntu
log? The reason this could be an issue (again) is that we recently
switched to kernel mode settings and first to hear of this issue in
9.10.

Also can you try a 9.10 live cd ?

2009-10-30 Thread Jerone Young
@Brandon

 Yes. So the reason this has returned is we are now using Kernel
Mode Settings KMS. Brandon can you try booting the system with
"nomodeset" added to the kernel command line of the 9.10 kernel.

  Let me know the results. Also tracking down a system with the AUO
panel to resolve the issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 460664] Re: "White screen of death" on Dell Studio 15

2009-11-02 Thread Jerone Young
This issue is a kernel mode settings (KMS) issue. Unfortunately the fix
in 9.04 didn't get into the KMS code.

Based on other reports & video posted here:
  - Once KMS kicks in with Dell Studio 15 machines with 965 graphics &
Aou panel you end up with a white screen.
 * No usplash screen
 * No X screen

  - By disabling KMS using "nomodeset" on command line , and forcing
Xorg to use vesa you can then use the card.

2010-05-06 Thread Jerone Young
Hey Bryce,
   This is not an issue. My main point on this was to explicitly
have the pae headers specified. But since it looks for linux-headers .. it just
happens to work. There was another bug I had with this, and the decision was to
stick with just depending on linux-headers.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 612335] [NEW] Enable Thinkpad Trackpoint scrolling by default

2010-08-01 Thread Jerone Young
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-mouse

All thinkpad Laptop and perperhials (USB keyboards) feature a
trackpoint. One feature missing from Ubuntu out of the box, is the
ability for the trackpoint to do horizontal & vertical scrolling.

If you are on a web page, you hold the middle button (which on Thinkpads
has a blue strip .. to identify this feature) .. then you use the
touchpoint to scroll the page. Horizontally or vertically.

Thinkwiki.org has put together a very comprehensive config for xorg to enable
this feature for only Trackpoint enabled devices.
The xorg.conf.d conf can be found here:

http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/How_to_configure_the_TrackPoint#xorg.conf.d

I have tested it and it works wonderfully on my Lenovo Thinkpad X301,
Lenovo Thinkpad T410, as well as the Lenovo Thinkpad USB keyboard.

I have the config file attached to this bug. But I'm not 100% sure if
xserver-xorg-input-mouse is the right package to put it in or not.

This is a feature that many Thinkpad users use under windows. Would be
good to have it enabled in Ubuntu by default.

Can you file a new bug for the Lenovo U160 and paste the link here ..
make sure to include Xorg log so folks know the screen. Also try the

Please do not update this bug with Lenovo U160 problems. It is for the
