[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1568604] Re: Mouse cursor lost when unlocking with Intel graphics

2016-05-12 Thread unrud
@saurav1: Only tested the script on freshly installed Xubuntu 16.04. The
screen doesn't get relocked on my computer.

Maybe it's a race condition and setting "Delay after locking screen
saver for" in "XFCE Power Manager" under the "Security" tab to a higher
value helps.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1580949] [NEW] Trusty: 1024x768 resolution not available to connect to Cisco KVM

2016-05-12 Thread jeffrey leung
Public bug reported:

1024x768 resolution is not available by default in Ubuntu Trusty when
connecting to Cisco KVM. It works fine with RHEL 6.5 (xorg-xserver
x1.13.0) and SLES 11.4 (xorg-xserver v1.6.5).

The workaround to enable display in Ubuntu Trusty is:
1. Stop lightdm (service lightdm stop)
2. Generate an xorg.conf file. Item #54 you need to add -> Modes "1024x768"
(will attach screenshot in comments)
3. Copy the file to /etc
4. Start lightdm again (service lightdm start)

@pitti,

There is bug in the Xkb patch in Xmir that has been fixed and is in the
Vivid overlay. I think Robert will need to respin the Xmir patch to fix
the bug.

That said, I'll mark this verification-failed.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1568604] Re: Mouse cursor lost when unlocking with Intel graphics

2016-05-12 Thread Saurav
@unrud: Your hunch was right. Increasing the delay (even to 2 seconds is
enough) resolves the issue. Even on your fresh installation, do check if
it works correctly with suspend/hibernate as well when the delay is not
more than one second.

I have gone back to gnome-screensaver for the time being, however,
because my Wi-Fi keeps going off after resuming from more than one
consecutive (with no intervening normal reboot) suspend/hibernate states
with light-locker (I don't know why).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1581076] [NEW] Xorg segfaults on start-up on Big Endian PPC hardware

2016-05-12 Thread Alex Perez
Public bug reported:

On my Big Endian PowerPC machine, Xorg segfaults when starting. I have
been able to confirm that this does not happen when building Xorg from

When building the xorg-server-1.18.3 deb from source, I commented out
the following patches from debian/patches/series to try to isolate the
source of the crash. With the following patches not-applied, and the
resulting .deb package built, the segfault on start does not occur.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1551028] Re: glGenFramebuffers fails when linked with OSMesa AND X11

2016-05-12 Thread Mike Miller
I think this bug is due to the change in the mesa package to build
osmesa without using the shared glapi. I have seen similar errors using
libosmesa6 10.1.3-0ubuntu0.6, when a program is linked with both libGL
and libOSMesa. If the libosmesa6 packages are downgraded to
10.1.3-0ubuntu0.4, the errors disappear. Of course that version does not
work when the mesa LTS HW enablement stack is used.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1551028] Re: glGenFramebuffers fails when linked with OSMesa AND X11

2016-05-12 Thread Mike Miller
Just for completeness, since this bug report only mentions Ubuntu
release numbers, the working version of libosmesa6 in 14.04.3 is
10.1.3-0ubuntu0.4, the version that fails in 14.04.4 is
10.1.3-0ubuntu0.6.

For my part, I am interested in how this affects Octave users because
Octave links with both libGL for on-screen rendering and libOSMesa for
off-screen rendering.

what would fix these issues for good would be to let mesa roll forward
unrenamed, that might actually happen for 16.04.x

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1551028] Re: glGenFramebuffers fails when linked with OSMesa AND X11

2016-05-12 Thread Mike Miller
Right, so is there anything we can do to build OSMesa for 14.04.x users
to resolve this? Or do we say sorry, don't mix OSMesa with OpenGL,
hopefully it will be better in the next LTS? IOW do you see this moving
towards "In Progress" or "Won't Fix"?

I completely understand the reasoning in bug #1424059, and maybe there
is no other way to resolve this in trusty without apt/dpkg versioned
Provides. I certainly don't have any ideas how to fix this.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 49521] Re: Screen locks up black on laptop lid close.

2016-05-12 Thread .
I fixed my problem on Dell laptop by changing Screensaver (XScreenSaver 5.34)
settings.
Display Modes
Mode: Blank Screen Only or Disable Screen Saver

I guess the screen saver program was not working well. I glimpsed the
monitor had weird colors.

Laptop Lid is closed: both Switch off display and Lock screen work after
the change.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1581270] Re: Hybrid Graphics: [drm:si_resume [radeon]] *ERROR* si startup failed on resume

2016-05-12 Thread Brian Foster
** Description changed:

dmesg shows issues with being able to use the discrete graphics card

- Grub does pass "radeon.modeset=1" and "radeon.startpm=1" to the kernel.
- I've tried all combinations and same results occur.
+ Grub does pass "radeon.modeset=1" but it doesn't seem to make a
+ difference. If I pass both "radeon.modeset=1" and "radeon.startpm=1"to
+ the kernel, then it does not error (except for the VCE error -110, which
+ is probably harmless).
+
+ Running `DRI_PRIME=1 glxgears`:
+ - with "radeon.modeset=1" and "radeon.startpm=1", no error but only a black
window with a visible top bar.
+ - with just "radeon.modeset=1", error (attached as 'glxgears').
+
+ Results are similar on Ubuntu GNOME 16.04, except with
+ "radeon.modeset=1" and "radeon.startpm=1" set. It works, but lots of
+ screen tearing.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1581277] [NEW] fglrx failed to upgrade

2016-05-12 Thread Shashwat Sridhar
Public bug reported:

I was running apt-get update && apt-get upgrade && apt-get dist-upgrade
on a friend's ubuntu system (Trusty). The system had not been updated in
a long time, so the list of packages to be downloaded was huge (~500MB
for updates and ~300MB for upgrades) and due to a slow internet
connection, I had left it overnight to download. The updates were over
by the time I slept, the upgrades had been downloaded by the time I woke
up.

When I woke up, the setup was stuck on various fglrx configuration files
on the system which it determined had been changed, and wanted to know
whether to keep the original files or update with new ones. I chose to
keep the original files. Mid-way through the installation, apport popped
up saying an error had occured. The script in the terminal went on
running, but once I clicked on "Report Problem..." on the apport window,
the script displayed an error regarding fglrx (but continued running
till the end, after which it said "errors were encountered while
processing: fglrx" and then stopped).

See also 15801302 about monitor blanking. You can get the monitor back
on with xrandr --output DP1 --auto *if* you do that from an SSH session
(not from one of the alternate terminals)
