If you prefer, you can continue ignoring bug report for 1 year and a half, than change the subject of report and close them as invalid. The OS remain buggy. I will not open a new and duplicate bug of this (where you changed the meaning) about hibernate and resume. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1470862] Re: When using fglrx module, the virtual consoles are blank and useless
This is also happening in Ubuntu Trusty 14.04.3 LTS : right after installing fglrx-updates and fglrx-amdcccle-updates the virtual consoles become unusable, i.e. totally blank. Again, as bad as the AMD support for Linux may be, as a matter of fact the proprietary driver is (unfortunately) still better then its open source counterpart: display quality is noticeably better, screen adjustments are way easier and more fine tunable than messing around with xrandr, composite window managers don't work properly or don't work at all with the open source driver. Much as I would like to do without the proprietary AMD driver, I need to use it to have my hardware working as I want, so please fix this issue. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer-updates in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1470862 Title: When using fglrx module, the virtual consoles are blank and useless To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer-updates/+bug/1470862/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1442378] Re: latest radeon open driver on lubuntu 14.04 displays white flickering scan lines and occasional parts of the windows on external monitor
apport information ** Description changed: On a Compaq Presario 2500 laptop with an Ati IGP 345M graphics card, when connected to an external monitor ( SAMSUNG P2470HD - FullHD monitor/tv ) through a VGA analog connection, and using the latest open radeon driver on Lubuntu 14.04.2 with all the latest updates, when using the native resolution ( 1920x1080@60 ) of the monitor, and even at lower ones, except the lowest, there are small white lines flickering all over the display especially when there is movement in the windows or menus, and sometimes even small fragments of the window contents appear momentarily across different parts of the monitor. This does not happen when using a Windows XP installation on the same laptop with the same monitor and with the same D-Sub cable. I've tried to install the fglrx driver, but there seems to be none available for this card either on the AMD website nor on the additional drivers repository of lubuntu. Installing the fglrx driver, the card was never recognised. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1500411] Re: Xorg freeze
Thanks for this advice. A little early to tell as I never could generate the error. But I did have a common symptom that being a drop down list in a browser would yield a black square instead of the list then my window manger would not react to mouse clicks or keyboard input. I did the BIOS update you recommended. I just had a black square on a drop down but my window manager is still working properly. By the way for us novices the documentation regarding BIOS updates is a lot of words that do not lend much clarity to what you are suppose to do. I suppose somewhere in the Asus manual it says something like the recipe below but I never found it. You might add a recipe like this: 0. Read documentation then - 1. Down load the latest BIOS version. 2. Unzip the download. 3. Copy the BIOS file to a usb Flashdrive. 4. Shutdown your computer. 5. Power up your computer. 6. Press F2 when the Asus logo appears. 7. Select Advanced in the Asus BIOS screen. 8. Select EasyFlash 9. Select your USB Flashdrive 10. Press the Yes buttons to update BIOS On 10/02/2015 10:52 PM, Christopher M. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1442378] Re: latest radeon open driver on lubuntu 14.04 displays white flickering scan lines and occasional parts of the windows on external monitor
** Description changed: On a Compaq Presario 2500 laptop with an Ati IGP 345M graphics card, when connected to an external monitor ( SAMSUNG P2470HD - FullHD monitor/tv ) through a VGA analog connection, and using the latest open radeon driver on Lubuntu 14.04.2 with all the latest updates, when using the native resolution ( 1920x1080@60 ) of the monitor, and even at lower ones, except the lowest, there are small white lines flickering all over the display especially when there is movement in the windows or menus, and sometimes even small fragments of the window contents appear momentarily across different parts of the monitor. This does not happen when using a Windows XP installation on the same laptop with the same monitor and with the same D-Sub cable. - I've tried to install the fglrx driver, but there seems to be none available for this card either on the AMD website nor on the additional drivers repository of lubuntu. Installing the fglrx driver, the card was never recognised. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1442378] Re: latest radeon open driver on lubuntu 14.04 displays white flickering scan lines and occasional parts of the windows on external monitor
Guilhermino, as per http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=228&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=385154#N2663 an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (F.25). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette . Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't have to create a new bug report. Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible, and the information above is provided, then please mark this report Status Confirmed. Otherwise, please mark this as Invalid. Thank you for your understanding. ** Attachment removed: "xserver.outputs.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1442378/+attachment/4484777/+files/xserver.outputs.txt ** Attachment removed: "xdpyinfo.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1442378/+attachment/4484776/+files/xdpyinfo.txt ** Attachment removed: "Xrandr.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1442378/+attachment/4484775/+files/Xrandr.txt ** Attachment removed: "XorgLogOld.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1442378/+attachment/4484774/+files/XorgLogOld.txt ** Attachment removed: "XorgLog.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1442378/+attachment/4484770/+files/XorgLog.txt ** Attachment removed: "XorgConf.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1442378/+attachment/4484768/+files/XorgConf.txt ** Attachment removed: "UdevLog.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1442378/+attachment/4484767/+files/UdevLog.txt ** Attachment removed: "UdevDb.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1442378/+attachment/4484766/+files/UdevDb.txt ** Attachment removed: "ProcModules.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1442378/+attachment/4484765/+files/ProcModules.txt ** Attachment removed: "ProcInterrupts.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1442378/+attachment/4484764/+files/ProcInterrupts.txt ** Attachment removed: "ProcEnviron.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1442378/+attachment/4484763/+files/ProcEnviron.txt ** Attachment removed: "ProcCpuinfo.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1442378/+attachment/4484762/+files/ProcCpuinfo.txt ** Attachment removed: "Lspci.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1442378/+attachment/4484761/+files/Lspci.txt ** Attachment removed: "LightdmLog.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1442378/+attachment/4484760/+files/LightdmLog.txt ** Attachment removed: "LightdmGreeterLogOld.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1442378/+attachment/4484759/+files/LightdmGreeterLogOld.txt ** Attachment removed: "LightdmDisplayLog.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1442378/+attachment/4484758/+files/LightdmDisplayLog.txt ** Attachment removed: "DkmsStatus.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1442378/+attachment/4484757/+files/DkmsStatus.txt ** Attachment removed: "Dependencies.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1442378/+attachment/4484756/+files/Dependencies.txt ** Attachment removed: "CurrentDmesg.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1442378/+attachment/4484755/+files/CurrentDmesg.txt ** Attachment removed: "BootLog.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1442378/+attachment/4484754/+files/BootLog.txt ** Attachment removed: "BootDmesg.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1442378/+attachment/4484753/+files/BootDmesg.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1442378 Title: latest radeon open driver on lubuntu 14.04 displays white flickering scan lines and occasional parts of the windows on external monitor To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1442378/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1500411] Re: Xorg freeze
Karl Johnson: >"I did the BIOS update you recommended. I just had a black square on a drop >down but my window manager is still working properly." Feel free to stress test it a bit more to confirm no more xorg freezes. >"By the way for us novices the documentation regarding BIOS updates is a lot of words that do not lend much clarity..." Seemed pretty clear to me when I read it. Quoting: "Asus provides within their BIOS a utility called Easy Flash. Please search the Asus website for instructions." However, if your point is that it is not click-for-click instructions, this is how when it was a direct URL to the instructions on Asus's website, they decided to change the URL so it was replaced with the above to be robust to random URL changes. Despite this, the Ubuntu help wiki is publicly editable. If you want more detail on it, feel free to add it as you encountered each screen as I don't have an Asus to confirm. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1500411 Title: Xorg freeze To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1500411/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1501941] Re: Screen turned off after X server exits
I've uploaded this change to wily. There is a possibility that there might be a regression for some users with DPMS but I think that is less severe than the effect on those who are left with the screen off. We'll look at doing an update if upstream provides a fix. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged => Fix Committed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1501941 Title: Screen turned off after X server exits To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1501941/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
