[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1418295] Re: Black screen after resuming from suspend
For me killing unity-panel-service as a last resort doesn't work (anymore). I am sometimes, but not always, lucky by preforming these voodoo steps: 1) switch to a VT (text terminal, e.g. CTRL-ALT-F1), log in and type "startx". 2) It starts another X session, and asks for a password ("authentication is required to change your own userdata"). Just press ESC a few times, and you end up with an empty, unusable desktop. You can't do much here. 3) Now switch back to the VT (again CTRL-ALT-F1) and press CTRL-C, which kills the new X session. 4) press CTRL-ALT-F7 to switch back to the original (black-screen) X session, which hopefully snapped out of blackness by the above steps. This bug is causing data loss much of the time, as it prevents accessing all your open apps and documents after suspending/resuming. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1418295 Title: Black screen after resuming from suspend To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1418295/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 518056] Re: cedilla appears as accented c (ć instead of ç) when typing 'c
@Gunnar first of all, thank you for your (weekend :) time and good will with this issue. And yes, of course, this can be considered an answer. Now I know where to start searching for the changes that affected the old behaviour. Unfortunately, I cannot test your PPA because my machine (this) is running Trusty (14.04.1) in an AMD64. But I have an old spare 386 for tests. I will test in it after work and share here. If all goes well, I'll try to learn how to package for PPA and (if I succeed, of course) publish a version for Trusty-64 too. Is this ok? Thanks again and have a nice day. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xkeyboard-config in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/518056 Title: cedilla appears as accented c (ć instead of ç) when typing 'c To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xkeyboard-config/+bug/518056/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Yes, "voodoo" is a good description of the workarounds I use to get back to a semi-usable desktop (mainly to be able to save any work). I usually switch to a VT and issue permutations of the following commands (some combination often, but not always, works): $> killall -9 unity $> unity --replace $> killall -9 unity-panel-service $> xrandr --display :0.0 -q $> xrandr --display :0.0 --auto /N -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1418295 Title: Black screen after resuming from suspend To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1418295/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1438054] [NEW] Display flickers when changing users
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 14.04 xorg version: 1:7.7+1ubuntu8.1 This bug occurs when trying to switch between two users on the system where both profiles are loaded. Expected behaviour: The system should switch from the lock screen of user1 to the logon screen of user2. Then, after supplying credentials, it should log on user2. What happened instead: When user2 supplies credentials and tries to log on, the screen flickers for about 5 seconds before showing the deskrop of user2. In some cases (as happened right before this bug report) the system will not succeed in logging on user2 and switch back to the logon screen. Sometimes when the system switches back to the logon screen, the screen will be unresponsive. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1437740] Re: Ubuntu Vivid Vervet beta2 guest does not boot to Unity from QEMU-KVM host
Dear Timo! Sometimes Vivid guest boots to "Install (as superuser)" window with two buttons "Try Ubuntu" and "Install Ubuntu". If I press "Try Ubuntu" here I can't get to Unity, I get to this window again. So I attached logs for this case too (see comments 17-31). Thank you for reply, with QXL I get QEMU console. You can see all test results in my Google Docs table ( https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1WsjQ8nz3b6dhYGdM3xxkdxZHp27j9ggvrRPcZbm9Cao/edit?usp=sharing in bug 1080674 ). My test results show that usable vga adapter' options are: * -vga std * -vga vmware But previous versions of Ubuntu boot almost normally with default VGA adapter (no "-vga" option in KVM launch command). For example "usb-creator-gtk" on disk test stage does not have "-vga" command line argument (for 15.04 live USB it uses "kvm -m 512 -hda /dev/sdc"). Users like this program, but there is no option to customize VGA in it. ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1437740 Title: Ubuntu Vivid Vervet beta2 guest does not boot to Unity from QEMU-KVM host To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1437740/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1364630] Re: init: Error while reading from descriptor: Broken pipe
Commenting out: # daemon.*;mail.*;\ # news.err;\ # *.=debug;*.=info;\ # *.=notice;*.=warn |/dev/xconsole in /etc/rsyslog.d/50-default.conf did not work for me on Xubuntu 14.10, however doing the following did work: terminal code: sudo mknod -m 640 /dev/xconsole p sudo chown root:adm /dev/xconsole I now no longer have the broken pipe message during boot. It seems to me, that the following function in /etc/init.d/rsyslog is never run: create_xconsole() { XCONSOLE=/dev/xconsole if [ "$(uname -s)" != "Linux" ]; then XCONSOLE=/run/xconsole ln -sf $XCONSOLE /dev/xconsole fi if [ ! -e $XCONSOLE ]; then mknod -m 640 $XCONSOLE p chown root:adm $XCONSOLE [ -x /sbin/restorecon ] && /sbin/restorecon $XCONSOLE fi } Kind regards Teddy -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-304 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1364630 Title: init: Error while reading from descriptor: Broken pipe To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/upstart/+bug/1364630/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 518056] Re: cedilla appears as accented c (ć instead of ç) when typing 'c
xkb-data is architecture independent, so i386, amd64, etc. doesn't matter. As regards different Ubuntu versions, I have successfully installed and run the xkb-data package in my PPA on trusty, utopic, and vivid installs. So even if it was built in utopic, you can install and test it in trusty if you like. If there proves to be a consensus on this approach to deal with the issue - possibly after some modifications - we should better leave the PPAs and propose that it's included in the archives, both in Ubuntu and upstream. In other words, I hope that a few users install xdb-data from my PPA, test, and give feedback here. On 2015-03-30 09:06, J. S. Lopes wrote: > If all goes well, I'll try to learn how to package for PPA and (if I > succeed, of course) publish a version for Trusty-64 too. Is this ok? Of course it's ok - this is free software. ;) But, as I just said, it's not necessary for testing on trusty.

"xkb-data is architecture independent,..." Great! This makes things easier for everybody. I'll try again late, after work, and share here. (I've tried with apt-get and, of course, it didn't found the repo. ) "If there proves to be a consensus on this approach to deal with the issue - possibly after some modifications - we should better leave the PPAs and propose that it's included in the archives, both in Ubuntu and upstream." In my very humble opinion, this seems to be the most KISS solution for the issue. "In other words, I hope that a few users install xdb-data from my PPA, test, and give feedback here." I'll help spreading the word and asking some fellows if they are using US intl dead keys keyboards. Hi, Leandro? What you think about this? Can you help with some testers? Please, share your toughts, friend :) Thank you, Gunnar.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1438188] [NEW] Follow up to Bug #1316873 - mouse button stuck when headset connected
Public bug reported: I got the same problem as the Comment 11 for bug 1316873 (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1316873/comments/11) and created hereby a report according to the subsequent commetn # 12 for bug 1316873 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1316873/comments/12 I got a headset "Plantronics 655 DSP" with two buttons included, namely vol up and vol down. I have used this headset for about 2 years without problems. Since a couple of weeks I can not use it any more, since as soon as I plug it in, Ubuntu thinks my left mouse button is pressed and no solution discussed on the net whatsoever worked. I had to unplug the headset to go back to normal mouse behaviour. btw, the touchpad behaves exactly the same as the mouse. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1430230] Re: Log flooding with warning message when using linux-lowlatency kernel
Yes, it isn’t ideal and sort of defeats the ‘low latency’ object, but it’s better than having your SSD thwacked (one of these writes to the log per second also adds up in terms of CPU activity). As the patch is just a one-liner, which allows execution in both soft and hard interrupt contexts instead of hard only, and has been tested and pushed upstream (http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.video.dri.devel/122993) I’d hope the kernel devs will be able to merge this in in time for Vivid. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1430230 Title: Log flooding with warning message when using linux-lowlatency kernel To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/hundredpapercuts/+bug/1430230/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1438303] [NEW] Radeon driver freezes GPU (reproducible)
Public bug reported: Hi, System: lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu Vivid Vervet (development branch) Release:15.04 Package: apt-cache policy xserver-xorg-video-radeon xserver-xorg-video-radeon: Installiert: 1:7.5.0-1ubuntu2 Installationskandidat: 1:7.5.0-1ubuntu2 Versionstabelle: *** 1:7.5.0-1ubuntu2 0 500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ vivid/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status GPU: Radeon HD 5870 I upraded from Ubuntu 14.10 to 15.04 (x64) three days ago. After the upgrade I was not able to play a specific game (Star Conflict) with the open-source radeon drivers. (It does work with fglrx, very low FPS, but it does work) The game did work on Ubuntu 14.10 hours before I upgraded, so a game bug or hardware bug can be excluded in my opinion. Steps to reproduce: 1. On a computer that uses the open-source radeon driver, start Star Conflict. 2. log-in and start a custom game against bots 3. start the match 4. wait until the countdown is completed and you are launched Expected result: I can fly around and shoot at those bots Reality check: X freezes, I get a garbled up screen for a second and then the image I had before. I can still move my mouse, but nothing reacts. I can change to tty1 and kill the X server/gdm and restart it but it just shows me the exact same image I saw before. Game logs are clean. dmesg/kern.log shows this [quote] [drm:r600_ib_test [radeon]] *ERROR* radeon: fence wait failed (-35). [drm:radeon_ib_ring_tests [radeon]] *ERROR* radeon: failed testing IB on GFX ring (-35). [/quote] I checked any log file I could find/think of, but kern.log is the only thing that shows anything. To get back to a working system I have to reboot. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 883319] Re: xrandr --scale restricts area in which mouse moves
I would suggest a workaroung: use --scale together with --panning For example, if I have 1366x768 screen and I would like to scale it up to 1920x1080, I would use xrandr --output LVDS1 --panning 1920x1080 --scale 1.406x1.406 1.406 = 1920/1366 or, similarly 1080/768 To go back, issue xrandr --output LVDS1 --panning 0x0+0+0 --scale 1x1 Of course, don't foget to replace LDVS1 with the appropriate device. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/883319 Title: xrandr --scale restricts area in which mouse moves To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xorg-server/+bug/883319/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 518056] Re: cedilla appears as accented c (ć instead of ç) when typing 'c
Glad to hear that you appreciate it, Leandro. I'd like to clarify the nature of the change. Basically I 'stole' the dead key, which in the "English (US, international with dead keys)" layout is used for typing á, é, ć, etc., and converted it to a dead key for typing ȩ, ç, etc. The key is marked with a red frame in the attached graphical layout. As a consequence, typing e.g. á and é is made more difficult. It can be done with +a respective +e, but there is no longer a dead key for typing á or é. So I'd like to ask: Is this the best way to fix 'the cedilla issue'? Is this in accordance with people's expectations? ** Attachment added: "us-intl-cedilla-layout.png" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gtk+2.0/+bug/518056/+attachment/4361306/+files/us-intl-cedilla-layout.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xkeyboard-config in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/518056 Title: cedilla appears as accented c (ć instead of ç) when typing 'c To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xkeyboard-config/+bug/518056/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 518056] Re: cedilla appears as accented c (ć instead of ç) when typing 'c
Hello Gunnar, I see! No, unfortunately we also need the accute dead keys for á, é, í, ó and ú. The "key" (phisically speaking) must be the same. That is, 'a = á, and 'c = ç (We also have other accents, such as à, ã, ê, etc., but all other accents work perfectly in the US-Intl with dead keys layout. The only exception is the cedilla. In other words, we need to do what the workarounds do, that is, to change the behavior of the 'c combination, and only that.
