[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1372409] Re: The monitor won't wake up after going to sleep (initiated by locking, automatic or manual)

2014-09-23 Thread Jan Corazza
** Description changed:

I am using the 3.16.3 kernel and Mesa/drivers/Xorg from the Oibaf PPA -
but this also happens when using drivers from the regular repositories.
-
- I can leave the computer to lock itself, or lock it by pressing
- Ctrl+Alt+L, and it power off the monitor after a few seconds (blue LED
- turns yellow), and then if I wait a minute - I will not be able to wake
- it up by moving the mouse or pressing any key. Switching to a TTY
- doesn't work either, but the keyboard is responding (can turn caps lock
- on/off).
-
- I have to restart the computer to get it in a working state after this
- happens.

I would say that this bug is SEVERE, because you can lose important
  work.

- On proprietary AMD drivers (fglrx) - this works. Also, it worked on the
- 3.13 kernel (default)
+ Steps to reproduce:

- EDIT: interestingly enough, suspending and resuming works fine. Only
- switching off the monitor doesn't. I will try another monitor model
- tomorrow and report back - but since the monitor works with other
- drivers I don't think the monitor is causing these issues.
+ 1. Lock computer (Ctrl+Alt+L) or let it lock itself automatically
+ 2. Wait a few seconds for the monitor to shut down (LED blue->yellow and
displayed warning)
+ 3. Try to wake it up
+
+ Expected behavior: the monitor is woken up and the Ubuntu lock screen is
+ displayed
+
+ Actual behavior: the monitor stays off, black screen
+
+ Additional information:
+
+ - Suspending and resuming works fine.
+ - Switching to a TTY doesn't work either, but the keyboard is responding
(can turn caps lock on/off).
+ - I have to restart the computer to get it in a working state after this
happens. (therefore SEVERE)
+
+ It works on these configurations:
+
+ - proprietary AMD drivers (fglrx) - this works.
+ - kernel 3.13 (default)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1364003] Re: [FFE] mesa 10.3

2014-09-23 Thread Maarten Lankhorst
No idea, but it seems those bugs are probably just bugs in kde5, since I
don't hit them with 10.3 on amd64/i386, but I can reproduce something
similar with the kde5 ppa, without updating mesa.

Hi,

A new patch have been released, does this mean I can update the package

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1364003] Re: [FFE] mesa 10.3

2014-09-23 Thread Jonathan Riddell
I tested today with Plasma 4 and Plasma 5 images and the problems I
found seem to be unrelated to the mesa update. I also tested on a
machine with Plasma 4 and AMD hardware and the mesa update also seemed
to go smooth. I'd still rather this did not happen due to unforseen
issues we've had from similar updates in the past but I won't block it,

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1373036] [NEW] crash when waking from suspend (ATI/INTEL hybrid)

2014-09-23 Thread Łukasz Janowski
Public bug reported:

The System hangs after waking up from suspend mode.

1) What I expect to happen

The system should go suspend then wake up when the power button is
pressed again. The Kscreensaver window should present an active input,
letting the user to insert theier password and get back to the ongoing
session.

2)

The system wakes up, Kscreensaver window is present but there is no
cursor preventing the user from inserting their password and unlocking
the session. CTRL+ALT+F1,F2 etc can be pressed but have no effect,
ctrl+alt+backspace can be pressed without effect. The only solution is
to use REISUB combination - this make system reboot.

The lockup occurs only when using fglrx driver. The issue was tested on intel
which presented no problem.
Fglrx-installer installed in the system is the official one.
I'd appreciate to have it tragied as the lockdown prevents me from saving the
battery when using fglrx (the only solution is to disable suspending at all).

+ I am using the 3.16.3 kernel (edit: now 3.17 RC6!) and Mesa/drivers/Xorg
+ from the Oibaf PPA - but this also happens when using drivers from the
+ regular repositories.

I would say that this bug is SEVERE, because you can lose important
  work.

  Steps to reproduce:

  1. Lock computer (Ctrl+Alt+L) or let it lock itself automatically
  2. Wait a few seconds for the monitor to shut down (LED blue->yellow and
displayed warning)
  3. Try to wake it up

Expected behavior: the monitor is woken up and the Ubuntu lock screen is
  displayed

Actual behavior: the monitor stays off, black screen

  Additional information:

   - Suspending and resuming works fine.
   - Switching to a TTY doesn't work either, but the keyboard is responding
(can turn caps lock on/off).
   - I have to restart the computer to get it in a working state after this
happens. (therefore SEVERE)

  It works on these configurations:

   - proprietary AMD drivers (fglrx) - this works.
   - kernel 3.13 (default)

  Relevant hardware:

   - graphics card: AMD Radeon HD 7790
   - monitor: HP ZR2330w

  My current solution:

Not locking the computer, and disabling automatic lock in Brightness &
Lock settings (set to Never). I did not disable suspending, because as I
  said, that worked.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1371853] Re: Logitech wireless mouse periodically loses correct click behaviour

2014-09-23 Thread Darren Long
I don't have much time to contribute to this ticket, but I'd like to
mention that I''ve been using 14.04 for quite some time and this problem
seems to have been introduced fairly recently. I first noticed it on
Friday 19th Sept 2014. Other than some updated packages, the only
change to my system here is the connection of an XBOX-360 controller,
which I purchased and connected on that same day, Friday 19th Sept
2014. My workaround is to use a wired USB mouse instead of the wireless
Logitech mouse.

Since kwin upstream has told us they won't support kwin4 with mesa 10.3, is
there anyone who could fix problems if they occur after this lands?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1084938] Re: evdev settings doesn't work at all

2014-09-23 Thread Balazs Pere
O.K., I understand. But what would be the solution. I would like to use
my touchscreen without mouse. But without mouse I haven't got right
mouse button. Touch and hold my finger on the screen should replace the
right click. I tried out easystroke with half success. Touch and hold
worked, but the scrolling (e.g. in nautilus or evince) by sliding
myfinger on the screen was switched off by easystroke.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1084938] Re: evdev settings doesn't work at all

2014-09-23 Thread Trent Piepho
There isn't one. Trying to use a touchscreen to run regular desktop
linux has major usability problems, as I'm sure you've noticed!

My point is there is no mystery bug or hardware problem that's going to
be solved by looking in logs. evdev's buttom emulation only works for
touch pads, not touch screens.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1371853] Re: Logitech wireless mouse periodically loses correct click behaviour

2014-09-23 Thread Sam Brightman
Hi Christopher. The BIOS I have is already an F8 version variant and I
would like to keep the variant. Further, I have not had this problem in
the 6 years of owning the hardware until 14.04. So further to Darren's
comment it seems very likely that this is a recent software issue. I
noticed the problem as soon as I upgraded to 14.04, definitely before
19th September, but I did not upgrade on launch date.

I should add that although the problem commonly happens every 10 minute
or so, there is sometimes a period of hours without problems and
sometimes it happens on every click.

I also have an Xbox 360 wireless connector. I will try removing it to
see if that is causing some sort of conflict.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1084938] Re: evdev settings doesn't work at all

2014-09-23 Thread Balazs Pere
Maybe it has usability problems, but in many cases the touchscreen is
more confortable than a mouse. I don't believe that it is impossible or
very difficult to modify the code so that a touchscreen behave similarly
(or the same way) as the touchpad or mouse. In win8 Microsoft could do
this. Canonical way not able to do?
