[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1185893] Re: [GM42] Screen flickering on login and boot screens on 8086:2a42
There are a few underruns reported there, just not as many as I expected. What is strange though are the attempts to probe a TV. Can you try testing video=SVIDEO-1:d (again append to the kernel commandline) and seeing if that prevents the flicker? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1185893 Title: [GM42] Screen flickering on login and boot screens on 8086:2a42 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1185893/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1181719] Re: I don't know the difference between bugs and my system cracker
Thank you for using Ubuntu and taking the time to report a bug. Your report should contain, at a minimum, the following information so we can better find the source of the bug and work to resolve it. Submitting the bug about the proper source package is essential. For help see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . Additionally, in the report please include: 1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'cat /etc/lsb-release' or System -> About Ubuntu. 2) The version of the package you are using, via 'dpkg -l PKGNAME | cat' or by checking in Synaptic. 3) What happened and what you expected to happen. The Ubuntu community has also created debugging procedures for a wide variety of packages at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures . Following the debugging instructions for the affected package will make your bug report much more complete. I suffer the same problem too, adjusting the brightness via settings or keyboard doesn't actually affect screen brightness, and when it lowers brightness due to inactivity the screen flashes scaringly. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1185893] Re: [GM42] Screen flickering on login and boot screens on 8086:2a42
So the issue is the false SVIDEO detection then. The g4x silicon was quite flaky with its TV detection, but I thought we had it stable now. Firstly: does your hardware even have an SVIDEO connector (composite out)? Can you please attach the drm.debug=6 dmesg from boot so that we can see the debug output for connector initialisation (basically to see what the BIOS says is on the machine)? One answer may be just to quirk your machine to stop it claiming it has SVIDEO in the first place, as the false positive in the detection could easily be due to a floating pin on the motherboard. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: New => In Progress ** Summary changed: - [GM42] Screen flickering on login and boot screens on 8086:2a42 + [GM42] Screen flickering due to false SVIDEO detection -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1185893 Title: [GM42] Screen flickering due to false SVIDEO detection To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1185893/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1068404] Re: Low graphics mode in muxless hybrid ATI/Intel GPU systems after fglrx upgrade
@jammy-zhou Yes, disabling SNA made fglrx-13 (13.6 beta) + xserver-xorg-video-intel-2:2.21.6 work for me. There is, however, a corruption problem when using an external monitor with the discrete GPU enabled (same problem I have with fglrx-13 + xserver-xorg-video-intel-2:2.20.9-0ubuntu2.1). The problem happens only when I'm using both screens (laptop and monitor). Public bug reported: Every time I turn my computer on, it hard freeze after a few minutes. Mouse and keyboard doesn't respond, and I can't switch to any VT (ctrl+alt+Fn won't work). Now it always happens the first time I boot, and I need to reboot two or three times until it doesn't happen anymore. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1185782] [NEW] Unity crashes after installing nvidia-current
You have been subscribed to a public bug: after installing nvidia-current, the window manager stops working. The taskbar disappears, windows will no longer move, resize or change order. What's particularly annoying about this error is that it has existed for years. There are postings for Ubuntu 12, and I was able to find similar reports going back to 9. Various solutions have been proposed, including uninstalling the package: NikTh (nick-athens30) said on 2012-11-28: #1 Hi , please open a terminal (CTRL+ALT+T) and execute bellow commands with order (one at time, copy-paste from here if you want) sudo apt-get remove --purge nvidia-* sudo rm /etc/X11/xorg.conf sudo apt-get install nvidia-common ubuntu-desktop sudo apt-get install --reinstall xserver-xorg-video-nouveau sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg Reboot you PC. First of all, this didn't work for me. Second, how about fixing the problem, or at least flagging/removing the package. You have a package which, if installed, does serious damage to the desktop. A huge warning at least would be nice. If anyone can tell me how to undo this, I would like to at least recover my system.
