[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1096155] Re: PowerMizer's performance level goes max to lv.2 from 4 possible on NVIDIA GTX series.
I'm updating with a little bit more info my problem. After installing nvidia-313 from xorg-edgers ppa I got a new problem that my BIOS didn't everything recognize my discrete NVIDIA card. I don't think it's caused by the driver, but it's just a coincidence. So anyway I started researching it and I came accross one of the options in my BIOS in "Advanced" tab "Primary Display". It had two options "SG"(Switchable Graphics) and PEG(Peripheral Graphics). On SG I have Optimus enabled and on PEG I have only my discrete card enabled. On SG I was suffering the problem that my NVIDIA card isn't found each time, while on PEG it was found each time. So after setting Primary Display to PEG I installed again nvidia-313 package and tried PowerMizer. This time it worked. I tested with "Amnesia: The Dark Descend" and the game wasn't lagging anymore. After checking PowerMizer I confirmed that it was moving successfully between all 4 performance levels. There was something that I didn't like about it though. PowerMizer was preffering the loweest and highest performance levels. For example if I'm on the lowwest and started changing desktops, the desktop animations lag a little but PowerMizer statys in lowwest level. When doing the same when in highes level it doesn't go down. So it looks like when Optimus is enabled PowerMizer isn't working correctly, but when it's disabled PowerMizer can use all performance levels. I hope this helps you to easier localize the problem. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1096155 Title: PowerMizer's performance level goes max to lv.2 from 4 possible on NVIDIA GTX series. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1102654] Re: [raring] full screen video crashes after Intel SNA enabled by default on dual monitor setup
Mmm however, regarding Totem, I see it hasn't been updated in Raring since December (and Gstreamer 1.0 since 9th of January and it was working just a couple of days ago so that's not it either) so I think the xserver-xorg-video-intel upgrade had something to do with it. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1102654] Re: [raring] full screen video crashes after Intel SNA enabled by default on dual monitor setup
It could be something on my system but I didn't do anything related to Gstreamer... And by the way, Opera with hardware acceleration (enabled in the Opera settings) now looks like a ghost window (repainting whatever it was behind it) and it's unusable. I think these two are related and both are related to the Intel driver update... Maybe you can try this and see if Opera works correctly for you? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.
ive been reading those threads for 3-4 days... and i think i might have found a solution that could work for some. Well... it works for me, Its been stable for a few hours and i could never pass the 10mins mark until now. I have a HP Pavilion 92077I with more ram. I tried Ubuntu Desktop, Server (+kde), Server (+Gnome). Version 12.10 and 12.0.4. I tried Latest Mint and latest Debian... all the same results... total freeze after a few mins in the graphical interface. Complete lockdown. No mouse, no ALT+F1...nothing. Had to hard reboot everytime. In a few cases i couldnt even get through the whole install process. I/O Errors. (with 2 different drives) God im tired... I tried everything. Changing the HD, the video card, checking the RAM. Switched the cpu, the network card, etc. With all the combinations above. Then i went to the BIOS ( i hate myself for not having tried that before) and found this setting: "on chip serial ata ": Disabled/Combined Mode/Enhanced Mode/Sata Only It was on "enhanced" for the whole time. After setting it to : Disabled.. if finally worked! I should have known that. My drive id IDE. Cant believe i missed that. If you do have an SATA drive..make sure its set accordingly in the BIOS. Anyway... maybe its not all our issue here...but i thought maybe it could help someone. I created an account here just so i could post this. Even if it helps only one person, then mission accomplished. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1104230] [NEW] DisplayPort 1.2 MST support seems to be broken in the Intel driver
Public bug reported: I have two recent DisplayPort monitors, both supporting the 1.2 version of the standard and one containing an MST hub (DELL 2913WM). I have my laptop (Lenovo ThinkPad X230, HD4000 Ivy Bridge) connected over mini-displayport to the display containing the hub, then the second display is plugged in that one over DisplayPort. DisplayPort 1.2 is enabled on the display containing the hub and the second display lights up fine but just works as a clone of the first display, without ever showing up in xrandr, dmesg or any other useful logs I could find. My understanding of MST is that the second display should show up as DP2 on my laptop so I can configure it as I would any other display.
