[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1101999] Re: After updates xorg consumes a lot of CPU when doing anything

2013-01-24 Thread Waleb
When I tried to execute your command chromium was using >100% CPU and
was unresponsive. It seems that Chromium consumes a lot of CPU too.

But even with no Application running other than Gnome-Terminal Xorg
takes up to 10% CPU when I move my mouse.

Now while I'm writing this chromium is running fine but sometimes it
just slows everything down. And my systems is very slow even with
chromium closed.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1096155] Re: PowerMizer's performance level goes max to lv.2 from 4 possible on NVIDIA GTX series.

2013-01-24 Thread Yordan Tsolov
I'm updating with a little bit more info my problem.

After installing nvidia-313 from xorg-edgers ppa I got a new problem
that my BIOS didn't everything recognize my discrete NVIDIA card. I
don't think it's caused by the driver, but it's just a coincidence. So
anyway I started researching it and I came accross one of the options in
my BIOS in "Advanced" tab "Primary Display". It had two options
"SG"(Switchable Graphics) and PEG(Peripheral Graphics). On SG I have
Optimus enabled and on PEG I have only my discrete card enabled. On SG I
was suffering the problem that my NVIDIA card isn't found each time,
while on PEG it was found each time. So after setting Primary Display to
PEG I installed again nvidia-313 package and tried PowerMizer. This time
it worked. I tested with "Amnesia: The Dark Descend" and the game wasn't
lagging anymore. After checking PowerMizer I confirmed that it was
moving successfully between all 4 performance levels. There was
something that I didn't like about it though. PowerMizer was preffering
the loweest and highest performance levels. For example if I'm on the
lowwest and started changing desktops, the desktop animations lag a
little but PowerMizer statys in lowwest level. When doing the same when
in highes level it doesn't go down.

So it looks like when Optimus is enabled PowerMizer isn't working
correctly, but when it's disabled PowerMizer can use all performance
levels.

I hope this helps you to easier localize the problem.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

2013-01-24 Thread macko
It happens to me more and more often on 12.04.
I can't believe it is set to 'won't fix'. The first thing everybody expects
from an operating system is reliability and stability. And this is an LTS for
god sake. I like Ubuntu but this kind of attitude and the annoying little bugs
that were once solved and then come back again with an update direct me towards
Mac :(
I wanted to be constructive but I could not find any relevant information in my
log files and I'm really angry at the moment.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1102654] Re: [raring] full screen video crashes after Intel SNA enabled by default on dual monitor setup

2013-01-24 Thread Alin Andrei
At first I though it was fixed, but only for ~30 seconds. Then the soft
freeze happened again. I've tried all combinations and here's what I
got:

Dual monitor + SNA: mplayer in full-screen still gets the system to freeze, but
now it happens after about 30 seconds after playing the video.

Single monitor + SNA: full-screen videos are ok.

Dual monitor + UXA: full screen videos are ok.

Both dual and single screen, both SNA and UXA:
- mplayer with vaapi support no longer works, the video is not displayed anymore
- Totem doesn't play videos anymore, no video is displayed (blank screen, just
like for mplayer with vaapi)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1102654] Re: [raring] full screen video crashes after Intel SNA enabled by default on dual monitor setup

2013-01-24 Thread Alin Andrei
Yes, full screen mplayer videos work with SNA enabled and two monitors
using this kernel! Totem still can't display videos but maybe that's a
different issue? Any idea? Also, mplayer with vaapi doesn't work any
more but since vaapi is not officially supported for mplayer, I guess
you won't care about that...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1102654] Re: [raring] full screen video crashes after Intel SNA enabled by default on dual monitor setup

2013-01-24 Thread Alin Andrei
Mmm however, regarding Totem, I see it hasn't been updated in Raring
since December (and Gstreamer 1.0 since 9th of January and it was
working just a couple of days ago so that's not it either) so I think
the xserver-xorg-video-intel upgrade had something to do with it. Videos
don't work in Totem no matter what (with or without SNA, with 1 or 2
monitors) - should I open a new bug for xserver-xorg-video-intel?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1077805] Re: left click stops working after a while

2013-01-24 Thread Thomas Juberg
Also experiencing this issue under Gnome3, Gnome Classic, Unity and Awesome.
Mouse button presses not registering, but mouse movement works.

Going out of X to a virtual console and back fixes it temporarily.
Using google-chrome seems to trigger this most easily for me, but other gtk
applications also triggered it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 36812] Re: Keyboard layout change on hotkeys press instead of release and do not work well with shortcuts

2013-01-24 Thread anatoly techtonik
Just my 0.02 cents. Why not to introduce "transaction" concept for key
presses?

1. Transaction is finished when the last key is released
2. The returned result from the transaction is the sequence of keys pressed

This should solve all [Alt, Shift] problems.

Example:
  user presses Alt key
user presses Shift key and releases it
  user presses Shift key
  user releases Alt key
  user releases Shift key

The returned sequence is [Alt, Shift, Shift]

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1104041] [NEW] Regression: Cairo-Dock is now fully transparent with xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.20.19-0ubuntu2

2013-01-24 Thread Matthieu Baerts
Public bug reported:

Hello,

With the latest version of xserver-xorg-video-intel
(2:2.20.19-0ubuntu2), bottom dock of Cairo-Dock is now fully
transparent. I don't have this bug if I downgrade to the previous
version (2:2.20.19-0ubuntu1).

It seems that this new version only includes a patch from upstream. I
guess I have to report this bug to xserver-xorg-video-intel, no?

Then 6 seconds later, again (second file). The GUI is completely frozen
at that point, but I can still move the mouse cursor.

I should point out that only the GUI breaks down - I can still SSH into
the machine and do stuff from there.

In the mean time I've upgraded to kernel 3.7.4 to see if that fixes
anything.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1102654] Re: [raring] full screen video crashes after Intel SNA enabled by default on dual monitor setup

2013-01-24 Thread Alin Andrei
It could be something on my system but I didn't do anything related to
Gstreamer... And by the way, Opera with hardware acceleration (enabled
in the Opera settings) now looks like a ghost window (repainting
whatever it was behind it) and it's unusable. I think these two are
related and both are related to the Intel driver update... Maybe you can
try this and see if Opera works correctly for you?

To enable hardware accel for opera: type "about:config" and:
Find "Enable Hardware Acceleration" and set value to 1
Find "Enable WebGL" and set value to 1

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

2013-01-24 Thread maxime
ive been reading those threads for 3-4 days... and i think i might have
found a solution that could work for some. Well... it works for me,
Its been stable for a few hours and i could never pass the 10mins mark
until now.

I have a HP Pavilion 92077I with more ram.
I tried Ubuntu Desktop, Server (+kde), Server (+Gnome). Version 12.10 and
12.0.4.
I tried Latest Mint and latest Debian... all the same results... total freeze
after a few mins in the graphical interface.
Complete lockdown. No mouse, no ALT+F1...nothing.
Had to hard reboot everytime. In a few cases i couldnt even get through the
whole install process. I/O Errors. (with 2 different drives)

God im tired...

I tried everything. Changing the HD, the video card, checking the RAM.
Switched the cpu, the network card, etc. With all the combinations
above.

Then i went to the BIOS ( i hate myself for not having tried that
before) and found this setting:

"on chip serial ata ": Disabled/Combined Mode/Enhanced Mode/Sata Only

It was on "enhanced" for the whole time. After setting it to :
Disabled.. if finally worked!

I should have known that. My drive id IDE. Cant believe i missed that.
If you do have an SATA drive..make sure its set accordingly in the BIOS.

Anyway... maybe its not all our issue here...but i thought maybe it
could help someone.

I created an account here just so i could post this. Even if it helps
only one person, then mission accomplished.

Good luck everyone

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1104209] [NEW] Pointer can't cross screens on multiple X screen configuration

2013-01-24 Thread Daniel Dadap

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1104230] [NEW] DisplayPort 1.2 MST support seems to be broken in the Intel driver

2013-01-24 Thread Stéphane Graber
Public bug reported:

I have two recent DisplayPort monitors, both supporting the 1.2 version
of the standard and one containing an MST hub (DELL 2913WM).

I have my laptop (Lenovo ThinkPad X230, HD4000 Ivy Bridge) connected
over mini-displayport to the display containing the hub, then the second
display is plugged in that one over DisplayPort.

DisplayPort 1.2 is enabled on the display containing the hub and the
second display lights up fine but just works as a clone of the first
display, without ever showing up in xrandr, dmesg or any other useful
logs I could find.

My understanding of MST is that the second display should show up as DP2
on my laptop so I can configure it as I would any other display.
