[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 977804] Re: Unity crashes when many windows are opened (intel_do_flush_locked failed: No space left on device)

2012-06-11 Thread Steffen Goetz
I'm also getting this crash with the latest unity and all updates as of
2012-06-11.

I can force this crash by opening nautilus and pressing Control-N 20
times to open 20 nautilus windows. The next time I press Alt-Tab or
Super-W I will get the crash.

By opening 20 nautilus windows I can also crash Gnome-Shell, so I think
this is definitly a graphics driver issue :-(.

2012-06-11 Thread yohan koehler
(this bug was already in the beta)

I was so boring of this bug so after 6 years of daily use of ubuntu I
switched to LMDE. It's faster than ubuntu and more stable... no bugs
with this distro ! and it's totaly free and open (debian base).

Bye bye ubnutu...

2012-06-11 Thread ossjunkie
I can reconfirm that opening a lot of nautilus windows and then clicking
on it's switcher seems to trigger the bug quite well.

While i'm running a single display setup for the last week, i noticed
that this bug seems clearly resolution dependent, as when i run 1280x800
on LVDS it's much less present than when running 1680x1050 on external
VGA.

@Steffen: I think testing newer mesa versions and kernels might be more
promissing, as the bug should be in the 3D stack.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 874218] Re: LightDM restarts after first login attempt

2012-06-11 Thread dikkjo
Hi everybody, I'm affected by this bug but I think the problem it's not related
to the graphics drivers.
When I boot up my PC, during the BIOS phase my numlock key turns on, but as
soon as grub pop up the numlock key turns off and from there it doesn't work
anymore (also shiftlock, etc are not responding). When lightdm shows up still
the control keys do nothing, then after lightdm restart everything returns to
normal. Does anyone else experience the same problem with control keys?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 930807] Re: [gm45] Intel GPU X4500 "hung", screen corruption without total freeze

2012-06-11 Thread Bzzz
apport information

** Description changed:

  Hi,

just experienced the second (partial) crash of my graphics subsystem,
this time I'm able to report it instead of rebooting the machine, as the
remaining functionality is much greater this time...

Yesterday it happened within rssowl, scrolling down to an embedded gif
animation; this time it was just random surfing the web with firefox,
reading news at a hardware magazine. Screen goes blank for a moment,
afterwards characters go invisible or form blocks and special chars,
title bars of windows go black and buttons become unreadable (however,
stay functional). Within an already opened vmware machine, the mouse
pointer is just a rectangular mess of colorful pixels and some milder
screen corruption happens. Restarting applications does not fully
recover the state (but it "cures" over time). Some applications are
affected much stronger than others, rekonq (why do I have to report bugs
with rekonq?!) offers now full functionality, while content in firefox
was nearly unreadable. Will append photos if it occurs next time, as
there are no real artifacts left that would describe the initial
  problem.

Using Ubuntu precise (development branch) , Release:12.04

  xorg:
Installed: 1:7.6+10ubuntu1
(please ask me for specific packages, as I do not know which causes the issue)

  dmesg lines:

trimmed xorg log is attached. Maybe you can also spot the reason for a
logout overnight, as I left a locked session running and after returning
Kubuntu wanted me to log in. Firefox and others told me about a program crash,
so the session wasn't exited properly.

  /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_error_state will also attached

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 185600] Re: [Upstream] LibreOffice repeatedly freezes after resuming laptop from sleep

2012-06-11 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
giuliano69, you cannot file a new bug because you are using a PPA, which
is not supported by Ubuntu. In order to file a new report, you must
change to non-PPA, Ubuntu repository software only, then follow the
directions in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-
drivers-180/+bug/185600/comments/65 .

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 986509] Re: In XFCE, window backgrounds go black

2012-06-11 Thread August Karlstrom
The fundamental question is whether this is a bug in GTK or in the
affected applications (using GTK 3 the wrong way). I'm leaning more
towards the latter since I find it unlikely that the default (gray)
theme would contain such a severe and obvious bug.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 994995] [NEW] Synaptics touchpad ignores "mouse clicks with touchpad" setting

2012-06-11 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Presumably this is gnome-settings-daemon.

After upgrading from oneiric to precise, I found that my synaptics
touchpad was always registering "clicks" by tapping on the pad. If I
check the system settings, the "Enable mouse clicks with touchpad"
setting is *off*, however. Changing the setting back and forth does not
change the behaviour.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1011698] [NEW] Performance problems with Nvidia driver

2012-06-11 Thread rmcd
Public bug reported:

I am reporting this because it seems to be a different issue than
#982710 . I am running 295.49, installed via precise-updates.

All is fine immediately after a restart. However, after a period of
time, X becomes slow, and flash becomes unplayable. Youtube freezes.
This behavior is a huge regression from 10.04 on the same hardware.

2012-06-11 Thread rmcd
As suggested by @albertomilone, I have filed a new bug report:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1011698 . If you are
still encountering performance problems, please vote for the bug there.
It sounds as if there are multiple problems that need sorting out.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1011732] [NEW] External display blinks off periodically

2012-06-11 Thread Dan Gillmor
Public bug reported:

My computer is a Lenovo ThinkPad x220, to which I've attached a Samsung
SyncMaster P2450 monitor, using the DisplayPort digital connection. The
monitor periodically goes dark (blank) for a half-second to a second,
then comes back on. This does not appear to happen with the laptop
screen when I'm using that alone.

I can't replicate this with any specific actions, though it is my sense
that it's occurring when browsing (but I'm not even sure about that).

Thanks...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

2012-06-11 Thread Martin
This bug affects me to. Running a Dell Latitude E4300 CORE Duo with Intel
graphics.
It's a graphics freeze for me, I can move my pointer and the keyboard still
functions when it locks. This usually happens after my account automatically
locks following a short period of inactivity as per my settings. Restarting
Compiz doesn't fix it for me, but restarting lightdm does as per comment #151.
1). Ctrl-Alt-F1
2). Login
3). Type sudo restart lightdm
4). This takes me to the greeter.
5). Login to my account, and the graphics are functional again.
Sadly restarting lightdm kills all window processes, but background and backend
processes continue to run through the lightdm restart.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 982415] Re: [i915gm] False GPU lockup render.IPEHR: 0x3f800000

2012-06-11 Thread Leann Ogasawara
The commit noted in comment #4 was applied upstream as of v3.4-rc4 and
is already available in the current Quantal 3.4.0-5.11 kernel. Based on
the positive test feedback in comment #15, I'm marking the actively
developed linux task as Fix Released. If this needs to be considered
for SRU for Precise, we should look to get this submitted to upstream
stable for the next 3.2.x release. Thanks.

Does anyone know if a installation of external graphic card circumvents
the bug ?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1011086] Re: X freezes after connecting external monitor

2012-06-11 Thread Nick Griffiths
I can reproduce the bug by rebooting and then plugging in a second
monitor. I can workaround the bug by removing the .config/monitors.xml
before my X session starts.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1011027] Re: Desktop crashes to login screen when opening links in Thunderbird

2012-06-11 Thread Alex Cabal
Today I noticed that I can simply try launching Firefox (without having
clicked on a link in Thunderbird) and it will sometimes crash to the
login screen, so I think this bug might be more appropriately filed
against Firefox.

** Also affects: firefox
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** No longer affects: xorg (Ubuntu)

** Summary changed:

- Desktop crashes to login screen when opening links in Thunderbird
+ Desktop often crashes to login screen when opening Firefox

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1011732] Re: External display blinks off periodically

2012-06-11 Thread Dan Gillmor
** Description changed:

+ UPDATE: I switched out the DisplayPort adapter with another one, and
+ haven't seen any blinking off since then. So I suspect I have a bad
+ adapter.
+
My computer is a Lenovo ThinkPad x220, to which I've attached a Samsung
SyncMaster P2450 monitor, using the DisplayPort digital connection. The
monitor periodically goes dark (blank) for a half-second to a second,
then comes back on. This does not appear to happen with the laptop
screen when I'm using that alone.

I can't replicate this with any specific actions, though it is my sense
that it's occurring when browsing (but I'm not even sure about that).

  Thanks...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1011732] Re: External display blinks off periodically

2012-06-11 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
If this re-appears with the new connector, could you please run the
command “echo 0x4 | sudo tee /sys/module/drm/parameters/debug”, wait for
a couple of blanks, and then run “dmesg > monitor-blank.dmesg”.

The monitor-blank.dmesg file will then have some extra debugging details
about modesetting, which should capture what's going wrong. You can then
attach that file to this bug, and we'll see what's happening.

If the other connector works fine in a different operating system, like
OS X or Windows, then we'd also be interested in the debugging output
for the possibly-bad connector; we might be failing to negotiate a
sufficiently paranoid mode.

Slight correction on the above... the report isn't for ATI as its an
unofficial bug tracker... but its a common place to aggregate
information about the ATI driver.

Failures are getting more frequent and varied... this is more likely a
hardware issue. But I guess spamming the system log like that isn't a
good thing either, so there's still a minor bug there.
