[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 947354] Re: Synaptics Soft Button Areas not working in HP Envy 14 Clickpad
Thanks for the reply. I tried your suggestion and disabled all InputCLlass related things in xorg.conf. Unfortuntely this does not solve the problem. There is no right click. Also the left button does not work properly. If I click then the mouse always moves a bit and marking text by holding the left mouse button and moving does not work. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.
At the risk of conflating yet another unrelated bug into this thread of apparently non-related bug reports, I wanted to share my experience and a workaround in case others have the same problem. See my contributions on this bug thread... https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/908335 ..and take a look at your USB devices/hubs. It sounds ridiculous but the conclusion I have reached is that for certain hardware configurations, kernels >= 3.x will hard hang if USB devices are plugged into certain USB ports/controllers. I had a complete hang problem with any kernel > 3.x on my Dell laptop that only manifested itself when docked. I wanted to move from Ubuntu 10.10 and every upstream release/kernel I tried would hang my Dell laptop WHEN DOCKED within ~5 minutes but would work perfectly when UN- DOCKED. I ASSUMED (I know!) that this was graphics related due to the fact a) every hang problem appears to be blamed on graphics/x and b) I used dual monitors only when docked. But after some pointers from some excellent chaps from Canonical I tried to run docked but with the USB devices removed from my docking station ports. No problems. I ASSUMED (I know!) that this was down to a specific USB device but then I plugged the USB devices (keyboard/mouse/web cam) into the laptop USB connectors instead of the docking station's and again no problem. I've been running 12.04 with zero problems for a few weeks now and it's fantastic. If I plug any USB device into my Dell PR02X docking station using a > 3.x kernel it will hang. Hope that this might help someone on this thread. And now the venting...I've come to the conclusion that reporting and management of bugs in Ubuntu is chaos. Perhaps that's just the open source world that I'm relatively new to? Perhaps it works and perhaps it's the only way that a relatively small team of fixers can deal with the demands on their time. But I have to ask how a bug thread like this can come into existence such that >250 posts about critical errors that may or may not be related to each other can simply be marked as won't fix? I understand why this thread is marked won't fix NOW. It contains a random collection of reports that each only have "12.04" and "completely freezes frequently" in common. But what lack of control and what sort of opaque process leads us users to latching on to a thread that 'appears' to the layman to describe the same problem we are having, only for some months down the line to be told that we reported the bugs in the wrong way? I REALLY appreciate the community effort that went into providing me with 'free' software and it would be churlish to attack the community behind it - as some have on here. But Canonical has commercial ambitions and wants to reach a wider audience and in the commercial world, this process is not good enough. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/993187 Title: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1008935] Re: Window edges difficult to catch and drag by mouse pointer
I have tried different settings for mouse sensitivity and acceleration. No obvious improvement, but I noticed that the sensitivity slider changes by itself. Doing some tests I found that the acceleration slider stayed where it was put between close and reopen of System Settings. However, the sensitivity slider would not stay in position between close and reopen. It always moved to the left on reopen. I found that it moved to the left only about 5% when it was set to 50% or more. When it was set to something like 25% it would move 10% to the left. When it was set to 10% it would move to 0%. So it is impossible to set the slider directly to a low value (under 10%) because it always moves to 0%. Setting to 20% did result in about 10%, but there was no noticable improvement in pointer control at window edges. The move to the left was only seen immediately after the slider was repositioned. Just closing and reopening did not cause any more movement to the left. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1008935 Title: Window edges difficult to catch and drag by mouse pointer To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1008935/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

However, I don't think they have anything useful in them - nothing related to an error at the end. ** Attachment added: "dmesg" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau/+bug/994203/+attachment/3178971/+files/xorg_freeze_dmesg.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/994203 Title: Xorg freeze with Nouveau drivers To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau/+bug/994203/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1008139] Re: Artifacts on the screen after closing the fullscreen application
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected compiz-0.9 precise ubuntu ** Description changed: I writing here because I have some problems on my 64bit Ubuntu 12.04 (probably Unity Shell or graphic drivers). When I: - close the fullscreen application (like Minecraft after pressing F11, but not in Firefox when I'm in fullscreen mode) - log on another account (without logout from 1st account) and then login back on previous account - back after suspend or hibernate I have some artifacts on my screen – just look at screenshoots below. I noticed that if I execute `unity --replace ; compiz --replace` most everything is fine again (however not every toolbar is placed in *top panel*). Also sometimes if I move the cursor over the launchbar (after I did one of these actions), it causes a decrease in the number of frames per second. I can move cursor however whole shell is little frozen. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash
I'm having the same problem on a Quadro FX3700 card running 295.40. I'm looking at moving 30+ machines to Ubuntu 12.04 (15 of which have the Quadro FX3700 card). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 974830] Re: [sandybridge-m-gt2+] GPU lockup render.IPEHR: 0x78170003 using Oracle SQL Developer
Andy: could you test something simple.. to disable FBC you can give an option to the kernel 'i915.i915_enable_fbc=0' by editing the kernel options from the boot menu. So if could test with that when booting the -25 kernel it would be great. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 943880] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in __libc_message() from malloc_printerr() via XIDestroyDeviceProperty
Hi Maarten, I installed the synaptics driver, and rebooted into the standard kernel, and the standard kernel was really unstable so I rebooted back into mainstream kernel. I'm a bit concerned about the security implications of running an old mainstream kernel, but at least the mainstream kernel is stable. I'm using the same synaptics driver in both by the way, since it's the same system, and my touchpad works fine in mainstream. Perhaps there is something in one of the modules that is part of the Ubuntu kernel that is not included in the mainstream kernel that is causing issues? For example, in the mainstream kernel, I can't run vmware, and there is no ipv6, and app-armor support is significantly reduced, and I imagine there are some other modules in the Ubuntu kernel that are not part of the mainstream kernel? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1009975] [NEW] Multimedia keys get stuck and cause system to hang at log-out
Public bug reported: Multimedia send no "button released" (Cherry Cymotion Master Linux Keyboard). When pressing "vol +" (for example) volume gets increased to max. button keeps "stuck". regular keys are unusable. switching to console (Ctrl+Alt+F1) and back makes regular keys usable again. Turning the volume wheel on my Logitech headset makes regular keys usable again. Other multimedia keys (Calc., Mail, Play, etc.) show a same problem. Once a key is pressed, logging out of current session causes system to hang. Same result in Unity and Gnome Shell. Bug was dicovered yesterday after fresh install of Precise. Problem also existed in Oneric. That time installing evdev from ppa in http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=974723 solved the problem. Switched to Mint 12 --> Same behaviour. ppa helped so I guess it's the same bug. After booting into recovery mode the problem did not reappear. What I did: Fresh install. Install medibuntu etc. Install gnome-shell and ATI fglrx. Discovered the problem in gnome shell. Switched to console and back. found the Headset wheel releases the key. Log out --> Hang. Reset. login to gnome shell. reproduced the behaviour. -->Hang Reset. login to unity. reproduced the behaviour. -->Hang gnome shell again.-->Hang Boot into Recovery Mode (unity). Problem disappeared. lsb_release -rd: Description:Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Release:12.04 apt-cache policy xserver-xorg-input-evdev: xserver-xorg-input-evdev: Installiert: 1:2.7.0-0ubuntu1 Kandidat:1:2.7.0-0ubuntu1 Versionstabelle: *** 1:2.7.0-0ubuntu1 0 500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status Bug filing was initiated by ubuntu-bug xserver-xorg-input-evdev. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.
ok one more comment. Those who know how to add kernel parameters via the grub boot menu, and have a Sandybridge(!) platform please try adding 'i915.i915_enable_fbc=0' to the parameters to see if it helps with the hangs. This disables framebuffer compression, which got disabled for sandybridge in kernel 3.3. It's also queued in the 3.2 stable queue, and the commit is a oneliner which might make it in the next upload to precise-updates.. Andrzej: no, you have nvidia hardware. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1010016] [NEW] When switching with a KVM, display resolution is not detected at first
Public bug reported: I have two Ubuntu 12.04 machines attached to a 2048x1152 screen via a KVM switch. Each time I switch it comes up with the wrong resolution, *until* I click on System Settings>Displays, when it suddenly and with no further action on my behalf correctly identifies the display and sets the right resolution. (It may only happen after Ubuntu has locked the screen after a timeout) As far as I recall, this is new for 12.04. 11.10 did it right, giving the correct resolution on switching with no further action required. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 991602] [NEW] Apport's recommendation of Ask Ubuntu is vague
You have been subscribed to a public bug: "Ask Ubuntu is the best place to get free technical support" While this is sort of true it's vague. Bug reports and crashers are offtopic for a Q+A site, so they are usually closed pretty fast and the user is sent to launchpad so that their bug can be properly handled, so Apport probably shouldn't send people there at all. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 991602] Re: Apport's recommendation of Ask Ubuntu is vague
Bryce (or whoever is also working on X), This is becoming troublesome because AU is starting to get a bunch of bug reports instead of questions and it's starting to affect the quality of the site and it's becoming more burdensome to continually police these up. When we instruct people to instead post their bug report to launchpad they tell us launchpad sent them there, so it's stuck in a vicious loop right now. If we could reword this text (is an SRU out of the question?) so we're not blanket telling people to just go to askubuntu it would really help out. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973297] Re: Xorg recognizes Logitech Headset USB dongle as input device then segfaults in XIChangeDeviceProperty
** Description changed: SRU Justification = [Impact] - On i386 machines, plugging a headset with buttons in will crash an existing X session or prevent an X session from starting. + On i386 machines, plugging a Logitech headset with buttons in will crash an existing X session or prevent an X session from starting. - [Stable Fix] - The crash is due to an ABI mismatch between xserver-xorg-input-evdev and xorg-server. A rebuild of the evdev input module fixes the issue. + The crash is due to a stack buffer overrun write that corrupts the + stack. This occurs because the buffer is not allocated with enough room + to hold records for all input device valuators when multitouch valuators + are present. [Development Fix] Rebuild will be pocket copied from Precise [Test Case] - Plug in a headset and see if X crashes. + Plug in the headset and see if X crashes. Alternatively, use utouch-evemu to create a virtual headset using the attached Logitech_Wireless_Headset.prop file: + + $ sudo utouch-evemu device Logitech_Wireless_Headset.prop [Regression Potential] - Practically zero. + The fix touches code that affects how input device axes are labelled. These labels are used primarily for the GIMP and a few other drawing tools when using a tablet drawing device. It is possible that a regression could occur, causing the axes to not be labeled correctly. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1007575] Re: SB Arena USB headset causes X BUG, can't click outside window
Hi Mike, There's nothing in the recording that should cause your focus to be locked. It is possible that the device is emitting one of the mouse buttons when it is plugged in, which we won't capture using this approach, as you noted. Let's try something else. Pull up a terminal. Run "xinput test-xi2" and capture the output to a file. Position your mouse cursor over the black box in the window that is created by xinput. Then, plug in your headset. Hit ctrl-c to kill xinput, and then attach the file to this bug. This will show us what input events are being seen and generated by the X server.
