[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 616023] Re: nVidia card : X won't start since 1.9 update, no screens found
I updated to Maverick yesterday. After that, Ubuntu wouldn't initialize X because of this error. I could fix it doing this: 1) FailsafeX in the newest kernel: restore Xorg.conf from scratch, then restart X. With this, I was able to start Ubuntu normally, but the 3d effects were disabled because Ubuntu wasn't able to load the "nvidia" module. No hardware acceleration, and the screen wasn't detected either. 2) Added a repository with latest nvidia-current firmware. Then updated and upgraded. This repository is: http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates/ubuntu maverick main 3) Made "sudo nvidia-xconfig". That filled the xorg.conf from the blank file I had before 4) Added the ignoreABI thing to the xorg.conf file. With this, now I'm using Ubuntu as usual, with hardware acceleration, screen detected, etc... -- nVidia card : X won't start since 1.9 update, no screens found https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/616023 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 616214] Re: Should Depend: on appropriate xserver-xorg-video-$ABI
This bug was fixed in the package nvidia-graphics-drivers - 256.44-0ubuntu1 --- nvidia-graphics-drivers (256.44-0ubuntu1) maverick; urgency=low * debian/rules: - Switch to new xsfbs variables to get the xserver ABI (LP: #616214). * debian/nvidia-current.dirs.in: - Remove duplicate line. * New upstream release: - Added Support for GeForce GTX 460. - Added Support for Quadro 4000, Quadro 5000, and Quadro 6000. - Fixed VDPAU to not print a debug error message when calling VdpVideoMixerQueryFeatureSupport with an unsupported or unknown VdpVideoMixerFeature. - Removed the requirement that in TwinView passive stereo, MetaModes must have identical viewports on each monitor. - Removed the requirement that in active stereo, all monitors must use identical modetimings. - Enhanced VDPAU to better report certain kinds of initialization error. - Fixed a regression that caused Xv to return BadAlloc errors on AGP systems when using the AGP GART driver contained in the NVIDIA driver. This fixes the problem reported in nvnews.net thread 151199. * This release still doesn't report to be compatible with the new xserver ABI but works fine if the ignoreABI option is set in xorg.conf. -- Alberto MiloneFri, 13 Aug 2010 14:28:27 +0200 ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers (Ubuntu) Status: In Progress => Fix Released -- Should Depend: on appropriate xserver-xorg-video-$ABI https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/616214 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 617396] [NEW] package fglrx (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 1
Public bug reported: Hello everyone, when I install the Ubuntu version of 10.04 from the compilation DVD (and any programs on it) created by using Remastersys Backup, a few months earlier and then try to install the graphics driver runs into the problem reported. Specifically, the use of the Ubuntu system to install graphic drivers to install ATI drivers (ATI HD5750 graphics) result in this error. Please note that when creating a disk I did not use the drivers installed ownership, but just did update the system and installation of a new (then current) kernel from the standard PPA. I see the exact same problem with ATI hardware. So, I think this is reported against the wrong package, and I think the duplicate that is marked is incorrect. I am not doing anything more advanced than I have done for years. Bumping the client limit will just mean we hit a higher limit after a little longer. I'm pretty convinced it's a client issue, and there's a leaky client, but I'm having a lot of trouble pinning the client responsible down. ** This bug is no longer a duplicate of bug 260138 (needs x11 protocol update) Xorg needs client limit raised -- "Maximum number of clients reached" with few windows open https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/524064 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 607490] Re: Xorg fails with "NVIDIA(0): Failed to allocate primary buffer: out of memory."
I have nvidia-current 256.44 installed now. But it behaved the same. If I let the system boot normally I end up in low graphics mode. If I interrupt grub and press 'e' to edit the item it will boot, and press CTRL-x to actually boot it everything is ok. My system starts up perfectly X starts up using nvidia-current. This is really strange. -- Xorg fails with "NVIDIA(0): Failed to allocate primary buffer: out of memory." https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/607490 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 405209] [NEW] Kubuntu hangs on initial boot when the monitor has a resolution greater than 1280x1024
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I have installed several Kubuntu 9.04 AMD64 installs and whenever the screen resolution reported by the monitor(s) exceeds 1280 x 1024, the initial boot after installation & any subsequent boots until an Nvidia driver is loaded shows the Kubuntu initial load logo, then attempts to set the screen resolution to that reported by the monitor(s). The version of the Kubuntu 9,04 installer is the AMD64 alternate boot CD. At that time the system locks completely and the only thing that will recover access to the system is a full power down or a system reset. When the monitor resolution reported is 1280 x 1024 or lower, the system boots normally and the Nvidia drivers can be loaded. Once these drivers are loaded, higher resolution monitors or dual monitors can then be used . The real problem occurs when there is only one large high resolution monitor. The workaround may be to boot with the screen turned off and turn it on only after the system has come up to the logon prompt. I will try this in the next day or so when I have access to the system I have been rebuilding. ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: jaunty -- Kubuntu hangs on initial boot when the monitor has a resolution greater than 1280x1024 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/405209 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 617619] [NEW] xorg.conf.d system config directory
Public bug reported: xorg-server seems to contain a backport of xorg.conf.d support from the upstream xserver-xorg 1.8 (done by debian) The config system was slightly enhanced by allowing both a 'system config directory' and a normal 'config directory'. This was also taken up by debian (debian/patches/17-xfree86-saner-conf-search-paths.diff) but not yet by ubuntu. It is import that this patch is also taken up, because: On a normal running lucid system, If you create the directory '/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d' and restart your X server then your input devices will not be recognized (mouse&keyboard). The reason is that xorg will choose /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d but you guys installed the evdev catchall rules in /usr/lib/X11/xorg.conf.d If /usr/lib/X11/xorg.conf.d would be the 'system config directory', then it would be no problem to have a '/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d' dir with user- specified config snippets (in my case, that would be an automatically generated touchscreen calibration snippet). Please add 17-xfree86-saner-conf-search-paths.diff to your patch list. Note that this is a pretty serious bug, as any application that thinks there is xorg.conf.d support, and writes something in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d will leave the user with no input devices on next reboot.
