Just for the record, as talked on IRC, I contacted upstream about contributing changes to provide gettext support: 1) Code changes • Add gettext support in the code • Replace the string ID's in the code by the English strings • Wrap all those strings in _() so they can be extracted by xgettext 2) Migration changes • Write a script to do a one-time extraction of the existing translations in the xml files under the data/resources directory and put them into separate gettext .po files. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 399829] [NEW] display corruption when moving desktop windows
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel Running Ubuntu Karmic Koala Alpha 2, Latest from ubuntu-x-swat as of 15 Jul - including xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.7.99.901+git20090702.74227141-0ubuntu1 (karmic) Running on HP nx7400 laptop, intel 945 chipset Having installed these latest updates, have seen a new bug - on graphic movement like moving a desktop window around, the display will flicker and appear corrupt. Corruption stops when movement stops. On the native laptop panel resolution of 1680x1050, several refresh rates are shown of 60Hz, 70Hz, 75Hz and 85Hz. This corruption does not appear at all at 85Hz refresh, but appears at all other refresh frequencies. I tried installing the latest drivers from the xorg-edgers repository as of 14th Jul, but this driver only provided me with a 1680x1050 60Hz option which always corrupts display on movement, so I have returned to the ubuntu-x-swat repository for now, but having to run at 85Hz. ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- display corruption when moving desktop windows https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/399829 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[SYSTEM: Ubuntu Jaunty 32-bit, 4GB RAM, nVidia Quadro FX 770M -- 512MB ] Hi again all, after some research I'm wondering whether I might be dealing with two problems, both fixable by tampering with /proc/mtrr : (1) the way main memory is allocated to my graphics card: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1130582 (Intel specific, but may apply for other manufacturers) Look at the MTRR stuff specifically. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 286932] Re: openoffice and skype menus and buttons disappear and reappear hovering over with mouse
I installed 185.18.14 (using the link provided by Bryce Harrington above) and have observed scrolling problems in the OpenOffice Word Processor when "Visual Effects" are set to "Normal" (the default setting). Setting "Visual Effects" to "None" works around the problem. I wrote a small Python script to generate a test text file to load in OpenOffice (redirect the script's stdout to something like "lines.txt" and then open the file in the OpenOffice Word Processor): from __future__ import print_function for i in range(1000): for j in range(6): print('line', i, end='\t') print() After loading that text file in OpenOffice, I paged through the file using the PgDn key on the keyboard. When the window was drawn incorrectly, I captured it with gnome-screenshot. I am attaching some examples. ** Attachment added: "screen shots" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/29082054/nvidia.tar.bz2 -- openoffice and skype menus and buttons disappear and reappear hovering over with mouse https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/286932 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 378668] Re: Cursor in terminal behaves badly with special characters present
I can also confirm this for the current gnome-terminal from Karmic. This makes me suspect it is not a bug in either of the two but in a commonly used library (vte?). My first hunch was that this may be a problem in vte, even more so after going through the dependencies of gnome-terminal and xfce4-terminal. But after reading through the vte bug tracker and confirming that this problem also exists in xterm which does not use libvte, I came to the conclusion it must be somewhere else. I'll add gnome-terminal and xterm as being affected now although I don't think the bug itself is in either of those packages. ** Also affects: xterm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: gnome-terminal (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Cursor in terminal behaves badly with special characters present https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/378668 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xterm in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 393623] Re: Can't play multimedia video (i.e., *.ogg, *.flv, *.wmv) when external monitor is connected
Bryce, I've tried booting to Karmic Alpha and am able to run a .wma video (after installing ubuntu-restricted-extras of course) but only when my two displays are set to "mirrored". So as soon as I try to "extend" my desktop onto the second monitor by unchecking 'mirror displays' in System>Preferences>Display, the tool informs me that config files have to change and I have to logout/back in. The problem now is that once I logout, the screen goes black, and the login screen never reappears (but there is the Ubuntu theme sounds). So when this happened, I tried switching to run level 3 and then running the apport-collect command, which then connects me to launchpad via the lynx web browser (which I installed previously) only to find out that this process does not appear to work with Lynx. I even tried copying in my older xorg.conf file and using the startx command to try to get video, and nothing... the screen is backlit-black. So I've attached a few files from the /var/log dir and the xorg.conf file for your perusal. Needless to say, since I was never able to log back in with non-mirrored screens, I was not able to test to see if the videos work. Any suggestions? Thanks a lot!
