[ubuntu-uk] Running Myst on WINE?

2012-08-06 Thread Gordon Burgess-Parker

Ubuntu 12.04 on a 4 year old Toshiba Satellite.
I have a Windows 95 copy of Myst which has installed OK in WINE but when
I run it I get the message "Myst requires a 256 colour palletized
display driver".
Is there anything I can do to get round this? (Can't see anything about
this in winecfg.)

Skype has this funny habit of using port 80. Try killing Dropbox,
starting Skype, and disabling the "use port 80" option in the
preferences menu.

Hi,

I've forwarded this to the testers on lubuntu-qa[1] It seems pretty agreed
by all teams that lubuntu will now be the flavour to fully support the
older Macs going forward. Do feel free to join that list and ask questions
from the Mac testers on there.

Regards,

Phill.

Why 10.10? It's long out of support.

10.04 would probably be better.

Or 12.04, if it has enough RAM & disk:

Which version of Skype are you running? And from where? What other
changes have you made to the system, e.g. other updates? (you can
check your update history in Synaptic).

sure it's version 4.0.0.8 from the repos, no other changes to the system
other than security updates

I saw that before posting - unfortunately it doesn't tell me anything

Have you tried logging out and in again? Or even re-boot. You
probably have but since you do not say then the question has to be
asked.

I suspect that might be to do with X-Windows - there are downscaling
instructions down that page that would probably help but you might have to
come up with a X profile specifically for the game.

[ubuntu-uk] USB 3 drive no longer automatically mounting

2012-08-06 Thread David King
I recently moved my Ubuntu installation (10.10) from one hard disk to
another. I also installed Linux Mint on the new drive, which controls
the boot menu (on the old hard disk the boot menu was installed by
Ubuntu 11.10).

Previously when booting into Ubuntu an external hard drive on a USB 3
port automatically mounted, using its entry in fstab.

Now, when booting from the new hard disk (the partition was copied using
dd so it should be identical to the old one), it fails to mount the USB
3 disk.

Once Ubuntu has booted, I have to switch off the USB 3 drive, switch it
back on, and then run sudo mount -a to get it mounted. Before I do this
there is no way to mount it, it is not even listed in gparted.

So how can I get the USB 3 drive automatically recognised and mounted at
bootup as before?
