Start by using the Log File Viewer to look in syslog to see if there
are any errors related to it. If it is crashing there may well be
something there.

Also when you run it from a terminal does it ever disappear again? If
so then there may be a message in the terminal.

That's a more difficult question to answer. :) I think there are a
couple of options:

By running it in a terminal, it may be more obvious when it's actually
crashed. At least you should get some output on the terminal when it
does, and then you can file a bug using "apport-bug indicator-session".

Another alternative is to enable apport [0] to automatically help with
bug submissions when an application crashes - even the ones that happen
when you first boot up and login, so if gnome-settings-daemon is being
started but crashing, this will catch it.

You may discover that there is already a bug raised that addresses this,
in which case you should just select the "This affects me too" option
and optionally subscribe to updates. If not, then you should just
describe then symptoms you're seeing in the bug report. Either way,
this will improve your odds of getting a clueful developer on the case
who will probably get to the bottom of the problem fairly quickly. Be
aware, however, that enabling apport system-wide will cause it to prompt
you to raise bug reports any time anything crashes - so you may want to
disable it after you've raised this particular bug. :)

In my case, I'm running the Ubuntu One nightlies PPA and there was a
problem in the ubuntuone-client-gnome package which was causing
gnome-session-daemon to crash. I would never have made the link, but I
filed a report and was directed to #ubuntu-desktop on Freenode where a
couple of people very quickly zeroed in on the problem and then looked
at a previous bug report I'd raised and made the connection.

Anybody requiring a cheap mono laser printer, I can recommend the Samsung
ML-1865, £39.99 from Staples.[1] I used the PPA from [2] to install the drivers
and everything has run smoothly since.
Staples are also selling some 7' USB leads for £1 each, I got some and they
appear to be perfectly good leads.
They are also selling toilet paper rather cheaply as well, if you need to stock
up. :)
I have no connection to Staples, in fact I've never been to keen on shopping
there.

Hey all,

Just wondering if anybody on the list has the samsung galaxytab 10.1 and
has managed to connect it to as a mass storage device in ubuntu?

Apparently it connects as an mtp device?
I did manage to find:
http://lifeafter2am.net/2011/07/connecting-samsung-galaxy-tab-10-1-to-linux/

But device wont mount, anybody else had any joy?

I have a galaxy tab 10.1, and the charging occurs through the adapter
connector USB cable, that is it charges from a USB socket. This same
USB cable can be plugged into my PC USB socket and it auto mounts (in
ubuntu 10.04.3) and the PC then indicates that a SAMSUNG_Android is
connected. The galaxy tab also indicates: USB connected, MTP-connected.
On the PC the file manager (location) of the mounted folder is
gphoto2://[usb:001,008]/

There are a lot of folders listed in the device, which is seen as
apparently a medium containing digital photos, however, in nautilus,
all the folders are shown as empty. Maybe permissions need to be
managed somehow but my trick of gksu nautilus produces a nautilus
which does not show this medium
I have other versions of Ubuntu but have not yet tried it with them.

I found an app called AirDroid, which will allow any computer/OS to
wirelessly connect to GalaxyTab, its quite good and will upload large
files very quickly, but, I have yet to find a way to view the files on
the Tab, cant play vids, even though I have installed various Movie
players..how do you gksu nautilus so it works? I have even tried
sing a DVD player, but cant seem to get that to work either..what
DVD/Movie player do you use?
