I'm having a look now, could you give an example of some strings that
should be translatable and current aren't? Just to be able to confirm a fix

Hi,

Those are

"Advanced options for %s"
"Loading Linux %s ..."
"Loading initial ramdisk ..."
"%s, with Linux %s"
"%s, with Linux %s (recovery mode)"

Thanks in advance for your work.

Best regards,
Yuri

Hey,

I applied the patch and updated the template on launchpad (to win some
time on a package upload)

Thanks, those strings are correctly translatable now, e.g:

https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/focal/+source/grub2/+pots/grub/fr/1417/+translate

Launchpad had memory of existing translations so hopefully it should be
fine with the next langpack update

Cheers,
Sebastien

mnw_MM is a new locale in Ubuntu 20.04, and I suppose the installer
picks it when you choose Yangon as the time zone location simply because
it's the first one if you sort the *_MM locales alphabetically. You
should submit a bug about that, and I think that "localechooser
(Ubuntu)" is the applicable package.

It's not very difficult. You can simply install the Burmese language
from Language Support and then set my_MM in Formats.

New ubiquity strings

2020-04-08 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Hey there,

There is a new ubiquity upload in focal's review queue with initial UI
support to better handle Bitlocked partitions, details in the changelog
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/473641538/ubiquity_20.04.10_source.changes

The changes include new strings which are now available for translation
on launchpad
https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/focal/+source/ubiquity/+pots/ubiquity-debconf/fr/+translate?show=untranslated

(replace 'fr' by your locale)

Happy translating!

Cheers,
Sebastien Bacher

ubuntu-release-upgrader package translation is broken

2020-04-08 Thread Игорь Зубарев
Hi, Sebastien!

It seems ubuntu-release-upgrader package translation is broken too.
I checked for Russian only. Don't know about other languages.

When I was doing partial upgrade of 20.04 I saw many strings not translated.
I found them in ubuntu-release-upgrader translation. They were translated
in 2012 but now they show untranslated in interface!

"Do you want to start the upgrade?"
"To prevent data loss close all open applications and documents."
"%d packages are going to be removed."
"You have to download a total of %s."

I tried 2 times to download PO file, but launchpad didn't send me the link
to the email.

Cheers,
Igor

How is it broken? A few untranslated strings in one language doesn't
count as "package translation broken". I see that you just added
ubuntu-release-upgrader translations to LP.

What am I missing?

Hey,

Sorry but I'm not working on that component and doesn't know about the
issue. Please report bugs on launchpad and not via direct email...

Re: ubuntu-release-upgrader package translation is broken

2020-04-08 Thread Игорь Зубарев
Gunnar,

I changed some translations in package. Also I downloaded PO from launchpad
to check for broken file. Unfortunately I haven't found any errors in it.
It opens fine.

These strings were translated in 2012 but now they are shown as
untranslated in application. Where are a lot of untranslated strings. I
listed only some of them.

So you see strings which are translated in Launchpad but still show up
untranslated when running ubuntu-release-upgrader? That sounds a bit
worrying.

Can you please file a bug.

I agree. That's why I suggested that you file a bug, so the developers
can consider a suitable change.
