[Ubuntu-manual] [Ubuntu Manual] 3rd Meeting for the 12.04 series

2012-04-16 Thread c7p
Hello all !

Ubuntu 12.04 must be in a pretty good shape so authors can test it and
start gathering, organizing their material.

I've created a pad [1] where all authors should report the changes that
affect their sections and other
people can suggest new sections. In this way every task that is to be done
from authors and also ideas from other members
are in one place.

The branch of the new series has been created, the series has started ! You
can commit your work

Also the openings for this series have been announced [2], if you are
interested in authoring/editing you can check them, if you
aren't and you want to promote the project write about it on your blog,
social media etc.

I've to open a poll for the coming meeting [3]. This meeting's primary goal
is to set deadlines/milestones for this series
and meet any new authors, editors.

Thank you all for your time, have a nice week !

Hello, everyone.

I've updated a number of things today.

I've generated a translation file for Getting Started with Ubuntu
11.10 so translators who would like to work on this edition may begin.
(It's been a while since I've generated a translation file, so if
someone could check my work and ensure I haven't botched anything, I'd
appreciate it!) You can begin translating 11.10 at
.
I have checked this for the Dutch translation. At this moment 31% is
translated, Lucid was translated 100%. The problem with Launchpad is
that it cannot handle fuzzies (translated strings from the previous
version, Lucid, are not copied to Oneiric if the English strings have
undergone slight changes). Although many translators have complained
about this, LP will not implement this, perhaps due to lack of manpower.
So what I do is this: I open both versions, copy and paste strings with
minor changes, change and save them in Oneiric. It is a lot of extra
work, but better than starting a whole new translation.

I've created a new bzr branch for Getting Started with Ubuntu 12.04.
I haven't updated the title page yet, but don't let that scare you
off! I've also left behind the old screenshots to ensure that we take
fresh screenshots for 12.04. You can check out the new bzr branch by
running: bzr branch lp:ubuntu-manual You can build the PDF by running
'make'.

We have a few opening for authors for Getting Started with Ubuntu
12.04. You can view the list of openings at our website:
. If you're interested in taking on
one of the chapters or sections listed, please email us.

Also, if you have any questions or encounter any problems translating
11.10 or getting started with 12.04, please let us know.

Thanks!
