Ubuntu Focal update of broken Calibre package

2020-10-15 Thread Sai Vinoba
Hi all,

I checked Calibre in Groovy (version 4.99.12+dfsg+really4.23.0-1) and it works
fine. As per bug report #1898904
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/calibre/+bug/1898904/comments/7),
Calibre >=4.15 has the required patch. So, instead of waiting for 5.2, can we
backport current Groovy version of Calibre to Focal?

Regards,

Sai

Unfortunately, Calibre 5.x requires SIP 5 and PyQt5 that is built against
SIP 5. Moving PyQt5 to the new SIP is a major transition, that happened
in Debian recently (two weeks ago) and did not happen in Ubuntu yet because
of freeze.

This requires changes in many packages simultaneously: at least pyqt5,
pyqt5charts, pyqt5webengine, qscintilla2, calibre, python-poppler-qt5,
veusz, krita and qgis.

I am planning to land this change early in Groovy+1 cycle.

So for Focal and Groovy we need a version of Calibre that still uses SIP 4.
Last such version in Debian was 4.99.12+dfsg+really4.23.0-1, Groovy already
has that. If you know some specific fixes, maybe they can be applied on top
of what Focal or Groovy has.

I've only seen ICS file support in various specific mail/calendar
clients.  Which mail client(s) or calendar clients are you using?
(Thunderbird + calendar plugins seem to work fine)

Hi Matej,

Have you tried Evolution? You can possibly even integrate Google
directly via Settings > Online Accounts and it should show up in
Evolution (haven't tried it personally and mileage may vary).

I've used Thunderbird + Lightning in the past, but Evolution has really
great support for Calendars, Contacts, Tasks and Notes.

If you've used Evolution in the past and didn't like it (yes, there was
a time even for me), they've done a great job and works 99% of the time
without issues.

Hope this helps and best of luck!

iCal support?

2020-10-15 Thread Matej Kovacic
Hi,

any idea when Ubuntu will have decent ICS support?

I am talking about easy creating and sharing events via ICS files.

You know, things, that normal business people do every day.

I am using Thunderbird and have Lighting (and Google calendar). I can
see calendar entries, but I don't know how to send other people an
invitation mail with ICS file attachment.

It seems that KOrganizer can send email invitation for single event as
an ICS file, but unfortunately KOrganizer in my Ubuntu does not want to
send emails with some weird error (cannot connect to D-BUS something...).

BTW, when I receive ICS attachment, Thunderbird shows me event, I can
even accept the event, but I am really missing an option, that event
will be added to my Google calendar (in my case it is added to local
calendar in thunderbird, which means it is not synchronized with phone).

Matej
