Keyboard disposition selection during install under Natty

2011-01-28 Thread Alain-Olivier Breysse
Keyboard disposition selection during install under Natty.

During the installation process of Natty, keyboard disposition selection
comes after the partitioning step, possibly leaving the user with an
unusable international keyboard.
This is even more of a problem for regular user with no to little system's
knowledge.fra
Even after the location as been choosen (Montréal for me) and the install
language being French, the default keyboard disposition selected is France
which is plain wrong. If a user goes for automated portioning, doesn't pay
attention to the wrong default keyboard disposition and then select password
(blindly), this user will after installation be left with an usable system
since he won't be able to log into the system as the password after reboot
will be typed on a Canadian keyboard disposition, whenever the password has
been set on a French keyboard disposition.

Of course this is valid for other languages as well and needs to be looked
into.

Regards,

Alain-Olivier Breysse
Montréal.

There is a bug filed against Ubiquity related to this,
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/664639 .

Spam on Ubuntu Community Help/Wiki

2011-01-28 Thread Przemek Kulczycki
Hi Teams.
I didn't know exactly where to write, so I'm writing to 3 lists.
I've noticed recently some stubborn spammer on the Ubuntu Community
Documentation wiki.
Can someone block him and similar spammers?
See the attached messages.

Re: Spam on Ubuntu Community Help/Wiki

2011-01-28 Thread Phill Whiteside
Hiyas,

Sadly pages do get 'vandalised', you can always revert to a previous
edition. As anyone is allowed to edit community pages it is a thing does
occurr. Thank you for bringing it our attention, I have subscribed to that
page also, so will also revert it should they attack it again.

Regards,

Phill.

Re: Evolution in Ubuntu

2011-01-28 Thread Chris Jones

I still don't see any real necessity to kick up such a fuss Paul.

Personally, although I used to use Evolution for my email, it was simply
due to the fact that there was no other real suitable alternative.
I currently use Thunderbird on Windows. Sure Thunderbird is also
available in Ubuntu/Linux but for some odd reason I always had issues
with Thunderbird under Ubuntu. And I never have those very issues with
the Windows version. Hence why I used Evolution.
But I agree with the other chap that posted, Evolution is buggy and has
been for a long time. Obviously development has picked up and things are
hopefully going to change soon.

And to put Maverick into perspective, it was a rather mixed bag of nuts
I think. Probably due to the fact that original plans of using
Gnome-Shell by default were quickly changed due to numerous delays of G3
development. Still, I was rather happy with a fully updated Maverick
instance.
