in 2.6.24 the r8169 driver was switched to use msi, which apparently
broke it on various systems. we were actively working on
https://bugs.launchpad.net/cmpc/+bug/247478 ...
if the nomsi setting helps for the above case too this would be a common
indicator to fix exactly this area, thats why i asked above if pci=nomsi
helps for other cards using this driver as well ...

Is that the same as this problem?

If it's not, I suggest reporting a bug, including a picture.
 (If
you can set up a virtual machine, this picture could be a screenshot;
otherwise you might need to use a digital camera.)

Hey there,

I took some time to look why the gnome-session restart and halt actions
don't work in intrepid and that turns out it's due to that, the new
gnome-session uses those actions which don't work in ubuntu, the bug is
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/intrepid/+source/consolekit/+bug/250506
for reference, anybody having a suggestion on what would the best way to
resolve the issue?

Tahoma (or, Does anyone have a copy of "Microsoft Office 97 Developer Edition"?)

2008-08-07 Thread Conrad Knauer
I think I've found a solution to the Tahoma Bold font not being
generally redistributable for the msttcorefonts package.

As I wrote on https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/msttcorefonts/+bug/50529

---
I discovered something interesting that I thought I should contact
you about:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/169813/EN-US/

"Microsoft Office 97 Developer Edition includes a Setup Wizard that
you can use to create a Setup program that users can run to install
files for a custom application. [...] The files available for
distribution allow you to distribute an application developed using
Microsoft Access to users who do not have Microsoft Access."

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/163535/en-us

"a list of the files that you can redistribute with a run-time
application which you create using the Microsoft Office 97 Developer
Edition Tools [...] TAHOMA.TTF TAHOMABD.TTF"

Does that mean what I think it does? :-)
---

Does anyone on this list happen to have a copy of "Microsoft Office 97
Developer Edition" to test that out with? :)

OpenChange

2008-08-07 Thread Kevin Fries
We are in the process of changing our Exchange server here to 2007. This
breaks the Evolution in Hardy. There appears to be a fix and it appears to be
a plug-in as part of the OpenChange project. It looks like it is supposed to
make it into Evolution 2.24, and Fedora is already reporting that it will be
part of version 10. Does anyone know if this is going to make it into Intrepid?

Thx

One of the basic tenets of Ubuntu was that it ships with the latest
version of Gnome. In fact, the release schedule of Oct/Apr was chosen
mainly based on the Gnome release schedule, to allow Ubuntu to be one of
the first distributions out the door with each new version of Gnome.

All that to say, Intrepid will ship with Gnome 2.24, so if this plugin
makes it into Gnome 2.24 it will be in Intrepid.

Personally, following the Evo mailing lists, I'm not confident that this
plugin WILL be ready for 2.24 (note that it relies on libraries provided
by the Samba folks, so it's not all up to Gnome devs). But, you never
know!

That's quite ingenious! ;-) However, does the Wine project not already
provide a Tahoma replacement? Maybe efforts could be spent on
improving quality of that font instead, if necessary.

IANAL, but as I read that: *If* you create a run-time with the Microsoft
Office 97 Developer Edition Tools, *then* you can redistribute
TAHOMA.TTF TAHOMABD.TTF with said run-time.

I suppose you could create a run-time that said "Hello World", and
distribute that with the two files, but I'm pretty sure that's not what
you meant :)

Oh, I'm not saying that a libre replacement wouldn't be vastly
preferable, I'm just pointing out that I think I've found a way to
work-around a bug that's been causing grief for quite a few people
(and in a way that people who aren't necessarily font developers can
help :)

Actually yes, that is *exactly* the sort of thing I was proposing! =D

Just be sure that it displays "Hello" in Tahoma and "World" in Tahoma Bold ;-)

In the interests of keeping the team wiki clean and easier to navigate,
this and other user created pages should ideally be sub pages of the
users page i.e. for this presentation for example it could be at:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ChuckFrain/RunningBugJam or similar.

The reasoning for this...

1. Makes identifying a particular persons work easier.
2. If edited by someone else it lessens work of others to perform #1.
3. Keeps the root folder of the wiki cleaner.
4. After a time if the page goes stale it won't be accidentally deleted.

It is not just this particular page I want to highlight alone as there
are a considerable amount like it on the team wiki at present. I wish to
promote that extra bit of personal organisation when creating wiki pages
helps the wiki's organisation then look after itself.

Phil

The wiki has a history function.

Not really. If you want to know who wrote what, you still need to look at
the diff.

This is a valid concern, but there are topic based roots that would be much
better than author based.

I assume this is true if it's under a topic based root page too.

In my experience wikis tend to have rather flat name spaces and that is a
feature and not a bug. Organizing by author I don't understant at all.

Wiki's do not have a flat structure of pages by design. It is the page
creator who locates their files in such a flat structure. If we worked
day to day in a flat structure we would have no such thing as folders
and we would all just throw our files in our home directory and work
like that.
