[Bug 200235] Re: [MASTER] In Hardy plugins do not install for Firefox 3 only present in firefox-2 profile

2008-04-29 Thread svenmeier
Gnash was working in my system, although flashplugin-alternative.so was
located in /usr/lib/firefox/plugins/ only.

Sound worked fine, wowever the videos were always black. After
installing gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg, this was fixed.

Gnash-common suggests to install gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg, should this be a
required dependency?

On my system this problem shows up when I enable fractional-scaling
(which I have to, to be able to use different scaling for my notebook's
3k display and my external monitor).

As soon as I close my notebook's lid or disable fractional-scaling,
performance on the external monitor is back to normal.

[Bug 1625477] [NEW] Xorg freezes on simultaneous touchscreen and mouse input

2016-09-20 Thread svenmeier
Public bug reported:

Whenever I operate a mouse and simultaneously use the touchscreen, the whole
user interface freezes:
- no mouse operation possible
- no keyboard operation
- video playback halts
- fan goes up

The duration of this freeze seems to be related to the amount of input,
I'm generating simultaneously with the touchscreen and the mouse.

After a few seconds:
- mouse operates normally again
- all missing keyboard input is showing up immediately wherever I had the focus
- video skips the frozen seconds and continues
- fan returns to normal operation

It doesn't matter whether I use a bluetooth mouse or the touchpad. Note
that this does not happen when simultaneously operating mouse and
touchpad.

It seems to me that xorg is running into some kind of loop, possibly
trying to make sense of contradictory input from mouse/touchpad and
touchscreen.

Yes, this is an unlikely situation, but it happens most of the time when
someone else is trying to show me something on the screen and
accidentally touches it, while I'm doing something with the mouse.

[Bug 1629851] [NEW] 16.10 installer fails to install grub

2016-10-03 Thread svenmeier
Public bug reported:

Installing 16.10 on /sdb fails with "cannot install grub on /sda". Note
that /sda is my data drive that were not and should not be altered
during installation.

When asked where I want grub to be installed, I chose /sdb and pressed
'OK', but nothing happened. I had to end the installation with a cold
boot, resulting in a broken system.

[Bug 1393079] Re: Touchpad not working after suspend/resume

2015-06-01 Thread svenmeier
A workaround for Ubuntu 15.04 is to add a new service to systemd which
reloads the module after suspend:

sven@:/etc/systemd/system$ more touchscreen.service
[Unit]
Description=Restore touchscreen after suspend
After=suspend.target

[Service]
Type=simple
ExecStartPre=/sbin/modprobe -r hid_multitouch
ExecStart=/sbin/modprobe hid_multitouch

[Install]
WantedBy=suspend.target

sven@:/etc/systemd/system$ sudo systemctl enable
/etc/systemd/system/touchscreen.service

[Bug 1456084] Re: error in intel_display.c causes blank screen

2015-08-02 Thread svenmeier
I'm wondering why "intel_runtime_suspend" is occuring in the log, when I
actually didn't suspend my machine.

[Bug 1481171] [NEW] thunderbird zombie process

2015-08-03 Thread svenmeier
Public bug reported:

Every other week I can no longer start thunderbird, because another instance is
already running (although no application window is listed in gnome-shell). The
following error is shown:
"Thunderbird is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window,
you must first close the existing Thunderbird process, or restart your system."

Forever whatever reason gnome-shell keeps a reference to the thunderbird
child process:

sandra@sandraOrange:~$ ps -A | grep thunderbird
 1550 ?00:00:07 thunderbird
sandra@sandraOrange:~$ cat /proc/1550/status | grep -i ppid
PPid:   1418
sandra@sandraOrange:~$ ps -A | grep 1418
 1418 ?00:01:50 gnome-shell

I cannot kill this zombie process,, so I'm no longer able to read my
emails.

ProblemType: Bug

[Bug 1461174] Re: Realtek Wifi card rtl8723be [10ec:b723] WiFi has an issue

2015-07-14 Thread svenmeier
@petzke
I've tried all different driver options on my Yoga 2 13. Although wifi
stability improved, I was never able to achieve fully reliable connection at
all times. I've switched to an Intel ac wifi card recently, and wifi is much
better now (although still not 100% reliable, but that's another driver's
problem).

I had problems with suspend-to-ram too, but the situation has improved:
I'd praise kernel updates for this improvement. But regretfully I can't
say, whether changing the wifi card might have something to do with it.

Hope this helps.

[Bug 1456084] [NEW] screen turns off after 10 seconds

2015-05-18 Thread svenmeier
Public bug reported:

When I leave my Lenovo Yoga 2 idle for about 10 seconds, the screen turns
black. If I enter some input (touchpad or keyboard) or when I wait for about 10
seconds the screen turns on again.
I'm experiencing this problem since switching to Ubuntu Gnome 15.10. Sometimes
I can get fix it by rebooting the system, but the problem reappears after some
time; sometimes the problem disappears from itself.

All power settings are changed to never dim screen brightness or blank
the screen. The notebook is connected to the power supply.

[Bug 1449502] Re: suspend fails if mobile wifi is plugged into usb

2015-05-04 Thread svenmeier
Regretfully initiating suspend via:

   sudo sh -c "sync && echo 1 > /sys/power/pm_trace && pm-suspend"

... does not suspend the computer, it seems to wake up immediately.

Suspending the computer via Gnome plugin or closing the lid results in a
failed suspend.

Sorry, I didn't thought the kernel would matter, since up till now all
are affected.

I've upgraded to kernel 4.0.0 final now, and will provide the missing
dmesg.txt when the next suspend failure occurs.

As a matter of fact, resume from suspend worked fine here on two
different Lenovo Yogas for two weeks now.

I don't know why the problem showed up intermittently, but Kernel 3.19
seems to have fixed it in the long run already.

[Bug 1416847] Re: kerneloops on suspend from resume

2015-04-28 Thread svenmeier
I've switched to Gnome Ubuntu 15.04 and suspend works reliably now.
Although I don't know why the kernel changes didn't take effect in
14.10, they seem to have fixed the problem now.

This bug can be closed.

[Bug 1449502] [NEW] suspend fails if mobile wifi is plugged into usb

2015-04-28 Thread svenmeier
Public bug reported:

With Gnome Ubuntu 15.10 suspend/resume works like a charm, *unless* I
plug in my Huawei E586 mobile Wifi.

Note that the mobile device is connected for charging only. Although it
reports in dmesg as "USB Mass Storage", I'm not using it for storage nor
can I access it via nautilus.

[Bug 1449502] Re: suspend fails if mobile wifi is plugged into usb

2015-04-28 Thread svenmeier
I've done some tests:
- it doesn't matter which port I plug in the mobile wifi - suspend will fail
- if the mobile wifi is turned off, suspend works fine (no suprise here)
- plugging in my usb stick, doesn't have a negative effect
- plugging in my external hard drive, doesn't have a negative effect on suspend

Some information about the mobile wifi:

mine:
- mine has a Realtek (rtl8723be) wifi card

[Bug 1509711] Re: Screen temporarily not locked when coming out of suspend

The problem does no longer show up with kernel 4.4.0.

@hjwp2: perhaps you could try out the mainline kernel from
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.4-wily/ too?

[Bug 1386721] Re: Graphics Slow After Upgrade 14.04 - 14.10

2015-01-29 Thread svenmeier
I don't understand how this bug can be 'invalid', when it perfectly describes
the symptoms on my fresh Ubuntu 14.10 installation.
It's discouraging to see that all commenters' effort to help identifing the
cause of the problem is dismissed with 'this is not a me-too bug'.

@Timo Can you reopen #1385764 please, it cannot be a duplicate of an
'invalid' bug.
