This used to work for me in Ubuntu 8.10 alpha's + beta, but then for a

updated.

I've now tried installing Ubuntu 8.10 final, which doesn't work either.

[Bug 934062] Re: "Keyboard Shortcuts" overlay can cause annoyance

2012-04-05 Thread stianst
After installing recent updates it works better, but still not perfect.
If ctrl is pressed and held first, then super, then up/down, it works as
expected without showing the overlay or the dash. However, if super is
pressed first both the dash and overlay is shown, but at least now they
disappear when super is released.

This results in (at least for me) the dash+overlay still being displayed
about half the time I use any of the "new" ctrl+super shortcuts, as I
tend to press all keys simultaneously.

[Bug 956878] Re: HUD is sending 2 menu signals instead of 1

2012-03-16 Thread stianst
As well as opening multiple tabs in Chrome and Nautilus (when searching
for 'tab') I've also seen it executing different commands, for example:

1. open gedit
2. press 'alt' to open HUD
3. type 'pref'
4. use key down to select 'Edit > Preferences' and press 'Enter'

This opens the 'Preferences' dialog as well as 'Print Preview' (which is
the first choice I get for 'pref' in the HUD). If I do the same, but
write 'preferences' instead it works as expected.

I'm having this problem with several applications, and have been having
this issue for a long time! With the removal of "unity --reset" it seems
the only way to work around it is to restart lightdm which is obviously
not very nice to do while you're busy at work.

2013-01-21 Thread stianst
With the fix version of this bug being set to 7.0.0 does that mean this
won't be fixed until 13.04?

I've had a horrid day today, with several apps missing from the launcher
and alt+tab. I can't believe this is still not fixed! Apps failed today
are gnome-terminal, gedit and eclipse.

Stopping the app and restarting has solved the issue.

If there is any debug information I can provide for this, let me know
and I'll be happy to assist.

[Bug 1102965] [NEW] Maximize window goes to wrong monitor

2013-01-22 Thread stianst
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 751605 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/751605

Public bug reported:

I have a laptop with an external monitor which is. The external monitor
resolution is 2048x1152 and the laptop monitor is 1366x768. Often when I
maximize a window on the laptop monitor it is maximized on the external
monitor instead.

To reproduce this:

1. Dual monitor setup with one monitor with a smaller resolution
2. Open a window on the small monitor
3. Resize the window so that it's height is greater than the monitor height
(i.e. you can't see the whole window)
4. Select maximize window (either by pressing maximize in window toolbar or
drag to the top)
5. Notice that the window is moved to the large monitor and maximized

To prevent this from happening when moving a window from the large
screen to the small screen resize the window first to be fit inside the
small screen. Now the window is maximized on the smaller screen as
expected.

Another way to observe this behaviour is to drag a small unmaximized
window (one that fits fully on the smaller monitor) from the large
monitor onto the top of the small monitor. This window is now maximized
on the smaller monitor. However, if the window on the large monitor is
made to big to fit on the small monitor prior to dragging it to the top
of the small monitor it is maximized on the large monitor.

[Bug 967266] Re: window manager - Nvidia twinview fullscreening window on secondary monitor moves window to primary monitor

2012-04-30 Thread stianst
This happens to me with any application when maximizing. It also happens
when using ctrl+super+up/down/left/right and when using ctrl+alt+num. It
doesn't happen all the time though, sometimes the window is resized on
the secondary monitor as expected, while other times its moved to the
primary monitor. I haven't been able to detect any particular pattern
for when the application is moved to the primary monitory and when it
stays put.

[Bug 968069] Re: Launcher opened and left open when using shortcuts with super

2012-03-29 Thread stianst
When holding super on its own the launcher is shown as expected, and
when releasing super it goes away. However, when super is used for any
other shortcuts (for example super+up) the launcher is left open, and
doesn't go away until super is pressed again.

I have the same problem with the launcher being shown - whenever I use
any shortcut with super+ both the launcher and the keyboard
shortcuts are left open afterwards.

Also if I press and hold super to display the keyboard shortcuts the
overlay goes away when I release super, but if I try to use a shortcut
with super it doesn't go away until I press super again.

This is clearly a bug and not a wish! It used to work and there is no
reason it shouldn't continue to do so. If it can open ear and jar it should
clearly open war as well.

[Bug 778418] Re: global menu disappear in digikam after first use

I've been having this problem as well. It seems like if both the main
window and the editor are maximized the global menu doesn't disappear
from the editor. If the editor is not maximized the global menu
sometimes disappear straight away, and sometimes after opening/closing
the editor a few times.

[Bug 751050] Re: Unity window placement shortcuts require a numpad

2011-07-27 Thread stianst
I just found out about the window placement yesterday when I was using
my workstation at home. It's the greatest thing ever! Imagine my
disappointment when I got home on my laptop and this feature is
completely non-existent!

I've got a proposal for a modification to the original shortcuts that I
believe would work on both desktops and laptops.

Super-left-top - Place window in top left corner of screen.
Super-top - Place window in top half of screen.
Super-right-top- Place window in top right corner of screen.
Super-left - Place window on the left side of the screen.
Super-left-right- Center/Maximize the window in the middle of the screen.
Super-right - Place window on the right side of the screen.
Super-left-down - Place window in the bottom left corner of the screen.
Super-down - Place window in the bottom half of the screen.
Super-right-down - Place window in the bottom right corner of the screen.
Super-top-down- Maximize window.
