[Bug 289986] [NEW] wireshark/tshark promiscuous capture on wireless interface locks up machine

2008-10-27 Thread gsgleason
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: wireshark

# lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 8.04.1
Release:8.04
# uname -a
Linux greglap 2.6.24-21-generic #1 SMP Mon Aug 25 17:32:09 UTC 2008 i686

If I use either wireshark as root from menu, or tshark as root user, it seems
the first frame captured in promiscuous mode locks up my entire machine. My
mouse is frozen, and I cannot kill the X server with the keyboard or switch to
another terminal. I'm using a thinkpad R61 with the following internal
wireless nic:
# lspci|grep -i wireless
03:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network
Connection (rev 02)

I tried the Alt+SysRq+1 followed by Alt+SysRq+t but it generated no
output and did not write to /var/log/kern.log

The only entry during the failure of kern.log was the following:
Oct 27 11:19:23 greglap kernel: [ 76.762581] eth1: no IPv6 routers present
here we go
Oct 27 11:54:23 greglap kernel: [ 182.285182] device eth1 entered promiscuous
mode
Oct 27 11:54:23 greglap kernel: [ 182.285200] audit(1225130063.580:3):

Oct 27 11:56:28 greglap kernel: Inspecting /boot/System.map-2.6.24-21-generic

The last line is the system booting up after failure and after hard
power down.

I've attached a picture of what I see on the console when it locks up.

This happens in wireshark as well as tshark. For testing, to use a text
console, I used tshark:
$ apt-cache policy tshark

[Bug 135548] Re: [Gutsy] Action on critical battery isn't triggered - regression

2009-04-14 Thread gsgleason
this has never worked for me. Started with 8.04 LTS then upgraded to
8.10, then installed 8.10 x86_64. Lenovo Thinkpad R61. I get the
warning form gpm that my laptop will be shutdown, but it never shuts
down - just dies when power is low. If any logs are required I will
provide.

[Bug 520280] Re: bitpim crashes when attempting to convert mp3 for new ringtone

2010-02-10 Thread gsgleason
I can see that the issue is how the python script is creating the job
for ffmpeg. It's passing the bitrate in kpbs when in fact ffmpeg uses
bps. I solved it by adding 000 to the end of each option in
/usr/share/bitpim/code/ringers.py which doesn't look good.

I also had to find the package that would allow ffmpeg to output mp3.
This should also be a dependency.

[Bug 875883] Re: apache2 cannot start because /var/log/apache2/ doesn't exist

2011-10-18 Thread gsgleason
Umm..Oops.

I had my logging going to a tmpfs to decrease SSD wear.

However, this is the only service that fails to start.

Would it be worth while having the init script for apache2 check to see
if /var/log/httpd exists and create it otherwise? That should be a
simple 'fix'

[Bug 881769] [NEW] x11 primary selection paste doesn't work in gnome 3 run dialog

2011-10-25 Thread gsgleason

something, and my middle mouse button will paste it. This doesn't work

[Bug 888666] [NEW] terminal doesn't refresh properly with nvidia-current drivers

2011-11-10 Thread gsgleason
Public bug reported:

after upgrading from 11.04 to 11.10, the terminal doesn't refresh
properly. It's hard to describe, but I can take a video if needed. If
I am editing a file with vim, when I jump to the bottom with crtg+G, it
doesn't refresh the window. Each line will refresh as I move my cursor
up, one line at a time. There are other oddities within the terminal as
well. When I use apt-get to install, I sometimes don't see the last
line asking me for my password, etc.

Thinkpad R61 with the following graphics card:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G84M [Quadro NVS 140M]
(rev a1)

This doesn't happen with the nouveau or nvidida-173 driver. only the
current driver.

[Bug 888684] [NEW] gnome-shell thinks that my nfs mount in my home directory is 'removable storage' and I get constant popups asking what I want to do with it

2011-11-10 Thread gsgleason
Public bug reported:

I have autofs set up with a static mountpoint inside my home directory.
I use gnome-shell, and it constantly gives a popup notification at the
bottom asking me to either 'Open with Files' or 'Eject'

no matter what I do, it will come back shortly thereafter, over and
over, never ending.

Expected behavior is that an nfs mount is not considered 'removable
storage' and doesn't give any sort of messages at all.

[Bug 888666] Re: terminal doesn't refresh properly with nvidia-current drivers

I just figured out this only happens when using gnome-shell which uses
mutter. This doesn't happen with unity, which uses compiz.

So perhaps this is a mutter issue.

I just changed this from nvidia-current to gnome-shell. This issue only
happens when using the new nvidia drivers with gnome-shell. It doesn't
happen with the current drivers in unity. I think there is an issue
with a combination of my graphics card, drivers, and the mutter
compositioning manager.
