[Bug 136214] Hibernate breaks when booting with USB device (/dev/sda* changes to /dev/sdb*)
Public bug reported: I installed Feisty on a clients laptop, and thought I had hibernate working. However, it all breaks if there is *any* kind of USB device plugged into the laptop when booting ... all partitions, including swap, are changed from /dev/sda* to /dev/sdb*, so of course the resume device cannot be found. This happens even with a HP Photosmart printer attached to the USB bus. As a workaround, I've tried setting up uswsusp to reference snapshot and resume devices by their UUID rather than /dev/*, but I'm not sure if this is possible. Why is this happening, and is there any workaround that will let me implement a successful resume in spite of shifting drive assignments? ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: hibernate resume uswsusp ** Summary changed: - Hibernate breaks when booting with USB device (/dev/sda* changes to /dev/sdb*) + Hibernate breaks when booting with USB device attached (/dev/sda* changes to /dev/sdb*) ** Tags added: hibernate resume uswsusp -- Hibernate breaks when booting with USB device attached (/dev/sda* changes to /dev/sdb*) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/136214 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 136214] Re: Hibernate breaks when booting with USB device attached (/dev/sda* changes to /dev/sdb*)
Yes, the USB printer that is attached when causing this problem is a HP Photosmart 2710, which has a storage-card adapter. What you say makes sense, as the problem doesn't occur with a USB wireless adapter - so I'm guessing that the BIOS must be set to boot from USB before local disks. Unfortunately, i won't be able to have a look at the clients machine for a few days to confirm. The laptop is a Pioneer M3 (?) ... I wasn't able to find much on it, but it's possibly a very similar machine to the Toshiba M3. -- Hibernate breaks when booting with USB device attached (/dev/sda* changes to /dev/sdb*) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/136214 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 153963] Re: [PATCH] Add STAC9228 DMIC support.
gutsy-proposed fix works for me, however it is not very useful as yet as the capture volume on the mic is very, very low - perhaps unusable. Am I missing some switch or channel that might be able to give a capture boost? -- [PATCH] Add STAC9228 DMIC support. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/153963 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 153963 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/153963 Would be really good to get this working ... I was recently subscribed to the UVC mailing list, and from a post I saw there, this could be a problem with UVC (webcam) module loading before usb-audio or something like that. -- Dell Inspiron 1420 built-in microphone does not record https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/153061 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 209974] [NEW] Xubuntu Hardy live installer doesn't detect HDD partitions
Public bug reported: I recently burnt the Xubuntu Hardy Heron Live CD Beta to install it to my Inspiron 1420 laptop, which is currently running Xubuntu Gutsy Gibbon and also has Windows Vista on another partition. When I try to install Hardy with Ubiquity (or even with the new option to install straight away without booting to live cd), I get to the partitioning part and choose "manual". However, the partitioner does not detect any of my existing partitions and only detects my entire hard drive as "unallocated". Needless to say, I sure don't want to delete my existing partitions, as I have a seperate /home partition containing all my data. Here is my partition setup: [code] [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo fdisk -l [sudo] password for shayne: Disk /dev/sda: 120.0 GB, 120034123776 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 14593 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Disk identifier: 0xd000 Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sda1 14267 14594 2620416c W95 FAT32 (LBA) /dev/sda2 * 101315104857607 HPFS/NTFS /dev/sda313154962292968757 HPFS/NTFS /dev/sda44963 1459477362032+ f W95 Ext'd (LBA) /dev/sda5 14267 14594 2620416 dd Unknown /dev/sda6 *49636178 9767488+ 83 Linux /dev/sda7 14145 14266 979933+ 82 Linux swap / Solaris /dev/sda86179 1414463986863+ 83 Linux Partition table entries are not in disk order [/code] It looks like it could be related to some of these bugs from previous releases: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/174669 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/108804 https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/5370 ** Affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: hardy ** Tags added: hardy -- Xubuntu Hardy live installer doesn't detect HDD partitions https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/209974 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

i've found it's possible to avoid the slowness by clicking on the "Search" button, then selecting "Look in: Name" rather than "Look in: Description and Name".
