[Bug 205095] Re: Ubuntu does not put 'options mac80211 ieee80211_regdom=64' in /etc/modprobe.d/options

2008-11-16 Thread eremit7
This problem also affects other drivers like at least rt73usb, Intel
3945 or ath5k. A gui in the network-manager to set this commands is
highly desirable.

If you are here looking for a solution to your problem note that the
mac80211 method no longer works in Intrepid. See the comment on intel
3945 in the release notes instead
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/IntrepidReleaseNotes).

[Bug 363664] [NEW] xfce4-settings-helper is slow on startup

2009-04-19 Thread eremit7
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xfce4-settings

Starting the xfce4-settings-helper is very slow. My eeePC 700 needed 40
seconds from Login to Desktop, after disabling the autostart of xfce4
-settings-helper this changed to just over 20 seconds.

When I start xfce4-settings-helper from terminal it also needs ~15
seconds to get ready, only for the first ~5 seconds it uses the maximum
CPU. I added an strace log from a start from terminal below.

The system is a jaunty Xubuntu with "xfce4-settings" 4.6.0-1ubuntu2
runing on a eeePC 700 (900 MHz Celeron) whose /home is on a SD-Card.

[Bug 377356] [NEW] ssh-askpass has no Option to save the Passphrase to a keyring

2009-05-16 Thread eremit7
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ssh-askpass-gnome

When Ssh-askpass asks for a pass phrase to a ssh-key on previews
releases, there was a checkbox for saving the pass phrase in the keyring
and lock it up when logging in. Under Jaunty (with ssh-askpass-gnome
version 1:5.1p1-5ubuntu1) this Option is no longer available, so there
is no possibility to get new pass phrases into the keyring.

For clarification see this screenshot of working window in Hardy:

[Bug 248148] Re: default rt73 wireless driver in ubuntu 8.04 hardy heron doesn't like channel 13

2008-07-20 Thread eremit7
I had the same problem. My solution was using the drivers from
serialmonkey.

Are you sure the driver in Hardy is this package? The RT73 package locks
like being uploaded new for Intrepid. In the source code I found a
explanation for changing CountryRegion. It's in
modules/iwpriv_usage.txt. However it did'nt work in Hardy.

[Bug 252444] Re: Regression - RT73 breaks after suspending in Intrepid Ibex alpha 3

Info from duplicate (309733):

I have to turn the computer off and restart.

At resume from suspend the WLAN dongle don't work anymore.
The dongle is still recognized by the networkmanager and iwconfig but no
networks are detected.
DMESG shows :
[ 209.737255] phy0 -> rt2x00usb_vendor_request: Error - Vendor Request 0x0a

Restarting the rt73usb module doesn't help. I get this additional lines from
dmesg :

[ 665.845130] phy1 -> rt2x00lib_probe_dev: Error - Failed to allocate device.
[ 665.853941] usbcore: registered new interface driver rt73usb

The only way to get the dongle at work again ist to plug it out and in again,
or to turn the computer off.
I tried to "whitelist" rt73usb in /etc/default/ACPI-support without success.

The dongle is a TP-Link TL-WN321G

[Bug 549997] Re: VPNC connection consistently fails to connect (no shared secrets)

2010-03-28 Thread eremit7
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important
for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn
more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a
bug in VPNC.
For future reference you might be interested to know that a lot of applications
have bug reporting functionality built in to them. This can be accessed via the
Report a Problem option in the Help menu for the application with which you are
having an issue. You can learn more about this feature at

[Bug 549868] Re: screen size to small

2010-03-28 Thread eremit7
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
0. a description of the problem.
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 195848] Re: FFe vpnc with Hybrid-Auth enabled?

2010-04-10 Thread eremit7
May be there is a chance to get this into lucid, but just asking here
won't bring this to the attention of the release team. And on the 15.
April is final freeze so it gets more complicated every day.

If you sure the change fulfils the requirements please follow the
procedure for freeze exception:

[Bug 555169] Re: Can't log in after regular update on Lucid

2010-04-05 Thread eremit7
Juan do you remember which pakages were updated before the incident? Was there
a kernel update?
Alternatively can you upload the log for dpkg (/var/log/dpkg.log) and post the
time when you did the updates?

Try to hit Control + Alt + F2 to access tty 2, and if that does not work boot
in recovery mode (chosen from grub). Does the latter work for you jhansonxi?
If notthing of the above works boot from a live CD to access the Log (and your
data). BTW you shouldn't use a development release on a computer were the only
copy of your data is, and make backups in general.

Can everybody please give a yes /no list:
Keyboard works in

3. in tty
4. in X

Anybody with the same list as Joan sets the bugs status as confirmed,
please.

Are we talking about built in Keyboards in Laptops (all Dell Inspiron

[Bug 556057] Re: 10.4 Bluetooth Keyboard Logitech diNovo stopped working

2010-04-06 Thread eremit7
Yuv wrote here
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/555169/comments/15:

"after logging in with the PS/2 or USB keyboard, trying to use the
bluetooth keyboard gives me a pop up warning asking if the device should
be trusted. Hitting on any of the button of that pop up makes it go away
but does not seem to have any effect. When the Keyboard sends signals to
the bluetooth dongle again, the pop up reappears. I'm on Kubuntu
upgraded via the net when beta1 was announced. The machine is currently
used only for testing the latest Kubuntu.

It seems to me that the logical conclusion is that the bug I am
experiencing is a bluetooth bug and unrelated to this bug report, hence
I've unlinked bug #556057"

Don't hesitate to assign the correct package if you know it. See

What is the exact problem with the other keylayouts, the @ sign?

Do you have an File .Xmodmap, Xmodmap or similar in ~/? If yes try to
delete or move him somewhere else and log in again.

Can you please test if the problem is connected to the number of
keyboards configured?

[Bug 588019] [NEW] eeePC 700 Celeron: ondemand and conservative governor didn't work

2010-05-31 Thread eremit7
Public bug reported:

Since Karmic the scaling governor for the Celeron prozessor of my eeePC
700 (p4-clockmod) can not use the ondemand or conservative scaling
governor. When I try to switch the kern.log puts out:

ondemand governor failed, too long transition latency of HW, fallback to
performance governor

It is using the performance governor when pluged in and the powersave
(meaning ~100 MHz) when on battery power, if p4-clockmod is loaded.

There are some bugs around with commends regarding this issue (#432706
and #41) , but since the original reporters reported other issues I
open this bug.

Especially interesting could be these comments even if some contradict
each other:

[Bug 549640] Re: reboot

2010-03-27 Thread eremit7
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

2010-03-27 Thread eremit7
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. While we appreciate the difficulties you are facing, it
would appear that the CD image (ISO file) you downloaded could be
corrupt. There is an easy way to verify the integrity of the Ubuntu ISO
files you download. Could you please visit
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM follow the instructions
and report back as to whether or not the MD5SUM verified? Thanks in
advance.

How did this issue connect to Bug #549602 ?

[Bug 549027] Re: RaLink RT2860: cannot connect to wpa & wpa2 networks

2010-03-27 Thread eremit7
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important
for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn
more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a
bug in the kernel.
For future reference you might be interested to know that a lot of applications
have bug reporting functionality built in to them. This can be accessed via the
Report a Problem option in the Help menu for the application with which you are
having an issue. You can learn more about this feature at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 548838] Re: ubuntu 10.04 will not boot

2010-03-27 Thread eremit7
You should be able to boot from a Desktop CD and access your harddisk
and backup your data. But do not install!

For help requests you will get faster help on http://ubuntuforums.org/,
this is more a development platform.

In order to determine if this issue is usplash related, please boot your
computer with usplash disabled to see if you can reproduce the issue? To
disable usplash for a single boot, follow these steps:

1. Press Esc during Grub boot delay to access the boot menu.
2. Select your actual Ubuntu boot line and press "e" to edit it.
3. Select the "kernel" line and press "e" to edit it.
4. At the end of the line, remove "splash" and "quiet" and press "enter".
5. Type "b" to boot the custom boot line.

Please report any errors that are shown on the screen.

Binary package hint: xfce4-xkb-plugin

On Xubuntu (in this case a karmic) every action that changes something on the
keyboard (e.g. adding or removing an layout, changing default layout or the key
for switching the layout) cases the system to hang for ca. 15 sec. There is no
difference of using the applet or settings Gui for the keyboard.
It's possible to move the mouse cursor but not to manipulate windows or perform
any other action. The virtual consoles work doing this time.
The same happens when I close the xfce4-xkb-plugin for ca. 30 to 45 sec.
Using the command line (setxkeymap) is faster (5s, this is probably due the
slow CPU 800 MHz CPU).

xkeyboard-config is not installed

best regards

Can you give some information what you exact did? A do-release-upgrade from
hardy to karmic?
To my knowledge this is not recommended and impossible under normal
circumstances.

[Bug 668086] Re: package latex-xft-fonts 0.1-8 f ailed to install/upgrade: sub-processo novo script pre-i nstallation retornou estado de saída de erro 1

2010-11-15 Thread eremit7
I guess you faceing the: „W: /usr/share/fonts/truetype/latex-xft-
fonts/cmmi10.ttf: not registered.“ problem that prevents latex-xft-fonts
from being removed, updated or installed? The report is not that
informative in the current form, I hat to guess form the logs.

The problem is that some fonts are not registered and dpkg is aborting.
As a workaround it is possible to register the fonts manualy via:

sudo defoma-font register-all /etc/defoma/hints/latex-xft-fonts.hints

dpkg gives to additional recommendations for defoma commands I forgot
now, but you can simply follow them. As the package is transitional it
can be removed and ttf-lyx installed instead.

[Bug 686277] Re: users-admin UID bug

2010-12-08 Thread eremit7
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem (especially which program do you used, the standard gnome-utility?)
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!
