I have the same: IBM T21 version 7.10. Each time I select stand-by, log off,
hibernate the screen goes black and that's it. I have to switch the computer of
and on again.
I am quite new to Ubuntu. Perhaps this might help for troubleshooting:
Before I used Ubuntu I used the Knoppix live CD. Screen went blank when system
booted. Workaround was to select fb 1024*768
I then installed Knoppix on the HDD, system started and shut down as per design

I think the strange mask is due to my system language. If a choose

Thanks,

I tried to change compiz. As I said earlier I am new to Ubuntu. I just could
not find, even with the compiz FAQ help, the file or settings to modify.
Then I tried the worst: I disabled the graphical login manager hoping to get
around the problem. I get my login and PW prompt and simply I do not know
how to proceed from the $ prompt or how to get back to the previous!

[Bug 579091] [NEW] Ubuntu Firefox Modifications 0.9rc2 interferes with toolbar buttons for other add-ons

2010-05-11 Thread ds
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

Toolbar buttons for add-ons (such as AdBlock Plus, NoScript, and Flashblock)
added to the toolbar do not appear in additional Firefox windows when Ubuntu
Firefox Modifications 0.9rc2 is enabled. The buttons are present in the toolbar
when Firefox is initially launched, but if either a second instance of Firefox
is started or File->New Window is selected the buttons are absent from the
additional window(s). The buttons also do not appear if a restart of Firefox is
performed (using a restart button, rather than closing and reopening Firefox).
Disabling Ubuntu Firefox Modifications 0.9rc2 results in the toolbar buttons
always being present in all windows. This does not affect statusbar icons, only
those in the toolbar. The menus themselves are not affected.
This problem is also seen with Torbutton 1.2.5, but either add-on will cause it
independently, regardless of the status of the other.
I am using a 64 bit version of Ubuntu and Firefox.

[Bug 760240] Re: cannot maximize window to secondary monitor

2012-04-05 Thread Sean DS
I still have this problem.

I can't maximize windows on the second monitor IF AND ONLY IF the
window is bigger than the monitor size, this is often the case because
my primary monitor is bigger than the secondary, dragging windows from
smaller to larger works as expected but not the other way around.

Works as expected IF AND ONLY IF the window is smaller than or equal to
the monitor size when dragged accross from the other screen.

Marking as confirmed.

[Bug 923509] Re: Windows jump around when moved between different sized screens.

2012-04-06 Thread Sean DS
Count me in, I have the same setup as OP.

I have another problem but its difficult to describe, I'll give it my
best shot. Sometimes when Ive minimized a window, say firefox or
rhythmbox and I go to open its drawn on the wrong screen, clicking on it
does nothing and it clicks the thing underneath. Using alt click and
moving it forces it to snap to the correct position on the other screen.

This seems to only happen to things that are maximized on the second
smaller screen and then minimized to be opened later, maybe OP has the
same problem?

[Bug 888672] Re: NetworkManager can' t connect on WiFi if laptop is without power connection

2012-04-01 Thread Sean DS
I've tried to reproduce this with my Vaio laptop. The Inspiron that had
problems used a Broadcom wifi card, as does another laptop that can
reproduce this.

This seems to be simply a problem with the broadcom wifi drivers in this
case.

[Bug 957683] Re: [HP LAPTOPS] wifi disconnect/connect when A/C unplug and plugin

2012-04-03 Thread Sean DS
On a different wifi network (VM superhub) I no longer experience this
problem. I suspect it's a driver problem in this case. The networkIi was
connecting to when I had the problems was broadcast from an old ~6yr
Broadcom router, I'm going to keep this bug marked incomplete because I
can't isolate the problem further, or reproduce it where I am now.

[Bug 997099] [NEW] Cursor sprite changes in size and appearence in Unity3D

2012-05-09 Thread Sean DS
Public bug reported:

I noticed when I changed my theme that the cursor sprite changes to the
default when I click the launcher, attached is a screen cap.

Let me know if any additional information is needed and the commands
nescessary to provide it.

To reproduce, change the theme to one which uses a different mouse and
watch it switch between the themed and default cursor as you move it
around your screen (eg in forefox its correct but on launcher its not).
I would attach a screenshot, but the screenshot renders the pointer
correctly at all times -- is this a compiz issue?

I'm using 12.04 and I have a dual head setup. This issue was there
before I started using the proprietary drivers.

[Bug 751605] Re: maximizing windows in a dualscreen setup goes awry

2012-05-20 Thread Sean DS
This problem is indeed present in Quantal, it appears to only affect
people using a dual head setup when one screen is smaller than the
other.

This effect is most annoying when working with many open pdf documents,
moving them from large to small with snap fails so I have to use the
compiz move window plugin and reach for the keyboard every time. Not
great for workflow really.

[Bug 939228] Re: Windows randomly changing workspaces

2012-04-15 Thread Sean DS
I have a problem I think is related - I use a dual head and sometime the
window will be drawn on the wrong screen, what do i mean by this?

Well say i have firefox open, it will appear on the left monitor but
interacting with it does nothing, instead I interact with whatever is
"underneath" it. Clicking the same position on the other screen does
however interact with firefox, it is rather surreal and seems to happen
at random times. My workaround is to use the shortcut keys to maximize
the window which repositions the window where it should be.

Definately odd and a little irritating but extremely hard to reproduce,
some days it doesnt do it at all. Souunds like this is the same bug
because symptioms are kinda the same.

I have a screenshot of this, I would have preffered to have made a video

1. I open firefox it is drawn on the left monitor but actually when I

2. When I click on my bib files in gedit, I'm actually interactinbg with
firefox, you can see me selecting some text in firefox by clicking on
the gedit window. This bug is at best aggrevating and at worst making me
wish I never 'upgraded' from Maverick.

[Bug 985645] Re: Remmina crashed under connection via RDP

2013-03-02 Thread Sean DS
This affects me in 12.04 in 1920x1080 full screen mode, I have to do
crtl+sysrq+REISUB every time.

Andy, your fix worked very well for me, thanks very much, hopefully this
will be fixed by the devs as it's a pretty catastrophic issue!

I'll bite, changing the size mode in local store from fullscreen to

the first place..

[Bug 977080] Re: Wrong colours in panel when dash opened + coloured pixels around panel text when using Radiance theme

2012-09-21 Thread Sean DS
I also experience this with adawaita on gnome-shell. O=Perhaps this
hints at a deeper problem? Screenshot attached - note pixellation of my
name in top right and other characters elsewhere. I use proprietary amd,
persists after fresh install and using open source driver.

This does not happen with Ubuntu Gnome Shell Remix, I think it's Unity specific

[Bug 1055433] [NEW] Accelerometer non functional (acer-wmi) in Acer W500/501

2012-09-24 Thread Sean DS
Public bug reported:

The accelerometer is not detected as an acpi event. There is a patch
(attached) which when applied to the acer-wmi.c source, allows the
accelerometer to work.

It would be nice if the patch could be added upstream so us early ubuntu
tab adopters can rotate at our leisure!

I found the patch in this link: http://www.linuxforums.org/forum
/hardware-peripherals/189360-accelerometer-help-needed-arch-linux-
kernel-3-4-a.html

I did not make the patch myself.
