[Bug 1435028] Re: Kernel does not detect already connected USB devices on boot

2016-07-12 Thread abadger
I have a Huawei usb dongle and after a power cycle reboot all appears
good:-

dave@withycombe:~$ uname -a
Linux withycombe 4.4.0-30-generic #49-Ubuntu SMP Thu Jun 30 20:51:32 UTC 2016
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

dave@withycombe:~$ lsb_release -a

Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
Release:16.04
Codename: xenial

dave@withycombe:~$ lsusb

Bus 001 Device 003: ID 05e3:0610 Genesys Logic, Inc. 4-port hub
Bus 001 Device 005: ID 12d1:155e Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd.

dave@withycombe:~$ ls -l /dev/ttyU*

crw-rw 1 root dialout 188, 2 Jul 12 09:08 /dev/ttyUSB2
dave@withycombe:~$

However if I issue the command 'sudo reboot' then look at the system I
don't get the /dev/ttyU* devices created. To be honest this bug is also
complicated by fact that my Intel NUC computer does not always come back
after a reboot. But that's a separate issue.

[Bug 1202556] Re: Lubuntu 13.10 Abiword doesn't start

2014-01-17 Thread abadger
I see same problem on Ubuntu 13.10 connecting via xrdp ...all program
start fine except abiword...

If I start it from a terminal I see the following error

abiword:17633): Gdk-ERROR **: The program 'abiword' received an X Window System
 error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation)'.
  (Details: serial 107 error_code 1 request_code 149 minor_code 8)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the GDK_SYNCHRONIZE environment
variable to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

** Changed in: abiword (Ubuntu)
   Status: Expired => Confirmed

It is interesting that it sees the memory stick which is part of this Hitachi

Is there any way to force the drive to be reset without rebooting ?

Thx Dave
