[Bug 530541] Re: desktopcouch-service crashed with RuntimeError in run_couchdb()

2010-05-01 Thread Thorsten Reinbold
The script is really not optimal, I could only use gwibber when using
it. I mean: all other Apps like Browsers that I run when using this
solution are using the same minimal /etc/hosts when gwibber is on. This
means: no ad-blocking, even with your script.

You're right, I didn't realize how the script works exactly. Thanks for
your explaination. Badly, that didn't solved the problem for me, because
gwibber doesn't start on my System at all, even with an unmodified
/etc/hosts.

[Bug 569675] [NEW] Wine blocks files without executable Bit

2010-04-25 Thread Thorsten Reinbold

"The file '/media/INSTALL/setup.exe' is not marked as executable. If
this was downloaded or copied form an untrusted source, it may be
dangerous to run. For more details, read about the executable bit."

So far, so good. I can set the executable Bit.

But I can not do this on a CD-R. Files on Read-Only Media are... well,

Yes, just inserted the CD (Diablo 2). After it was not possible to start

For me, this is not a problem, but I don't think that this is a good way
for most Users. I've had some questions about that in our Forums, many
People think of an error and just giving up.

[Bug 570433] [NEW] [Lucid, M24] Garbage playing Videos with UMS, Textured Video Fullscreen

2010-04-26 Thread Thorsten Reinbold
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

After having slowdowns and Video playback problems with KMS, I switched
to UMS via radeon.modeset=0.

Problem as follows: Video Playback works only in Fullscreen, but not
when windowed. I only get Sound and a black Window there. So I switched
Video output to "X11/XShm/Xv" via gstreamer-proberties with radeon
textured video.

The result was satisfying with windowed Totem, in Fullscreen I get what
you can see on the attatched Screenshot.

[Bug 532309] Re: Light-themes: panel-background isn't scaling

2010-05-03 Thread Thorsten Reinbold
Ok, because there are obviously some misunderstandings, the workaround
step by step:

1. Comment out the line

bg_pixmap[NORMAL] = "panel_bg.png"

in gtkrc of ambiance/radiance Theme.

2. Set "fit", "stretch" and "rotate" in /apps/panel/toplevels under
background to true via gconf-editor.

3. Set the panel_bg.png from the theme manually in the panel-properties.

The gconf settings are only working when commenting the entry in the gtkrc file
out and set the bg yourself.

[Bug 549601] Re: No Fullscreen-3D with KMS enabled

2010-05-03 Thread Thorsten Reinbold
I've tested Kernel 2.6.34-020634rc6-generic from

Screen, too.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

- With KMS enabled, no Fullscreen 3D games are possible. I only get a
- white Screen, the System does not respond. I can change to tty1, but I'm
- not able to kill the hanging Application. Only restart is possible.
+ With KMS enabled, no Fullscreen 3D Applications are possible. I only get
+ a white Screen, with some fading, mist-like colours. The System runs in
+ background, sound works and the Applications seems to run in background.

- When disabling KMS via radeon.modeset=0 on Grub, everything is fine.

[Bug 524966] [NEW] Menus on GTK-Apps are slow/lagging

2010-02-20 Thread Thorsten Reinbold
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

When browsing through the Menuitems of any Gtk-Application (I guess),
the Menuhighlight is lagging behind the Pointer. In some Apps it is
hardly noticable (nautilus), in other Apps it is really heavy (Gimp).
This behaviour occured after the Updates two days ago. Not shure what
package is really responsable for this.

[Bug 504254] [NEW] Lucid Lynx: /usr/bin/X: Segmentation fault at address (nil)

2010-01-07 Thread Thorsten Reinbold
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I hope this time i filed the Bug in the right place. On Lucid (incl.
updates from 07.01.10) X is aborting when GDM should load. I'm getting
an "Ubuntu runs in low graphics mode" message. Continuing in low
graphics mode works only when Ubuntu was started with the "nomodeset"
Kernel Option.

When not using this, returning to the Console in Low Graphics Mode
Options does not work, I only get a black screen.

Using "nomodeset", returning to the console and do a "startx", I get
the following messages:

22: /usr/bin/X (0x8048000+0x1e931) [0x8066931]
Segmentation fault at address (nil)

Caught signal 11 (Segmentation fault). Server aborting

After trying two or three times, startx works sometimes, sometimes not.

[Bug 152335] Re: Remove -proposed checkbox in Updates, or warn of 'not stable' updates

2010-02-26 Thread Thorsten Reinbold
Don't do this. Seriously: you have to enter the Root-password when
you're about to change the Package-Sources. You get a message that warns
you about the possibility to damage your System.

The Problem is: in the German Ubuntu-Version, Proposed is translated
with "Vorab veröffentlichte Aktualisierungen". This means: released in
advance (or, if you want so: newer). The description should be changed,
but don't remove this completly. There are enough things that has been
removed in the past. Its really enough.

Why not using GNU Paint as a small, fast and Beginner-friendly
replacement? It has everything to be a kind of "MS-Paint", a simple to
use tool, even for Beginners. Also, it is in the main-repos already.

[Bug 487135] Re: No Gimp in Lucid

2009-11-23 Thread Thorsten Reinbold
I cannot understand how anyone can try to use F-Spot for Image-
Manipulation? F-Spot isn't meant for that, it is a tool to have an
overview about your Image-collections. And as said above, it lacks some
basically Functions like making an arrow or draw a line.

F-Spot is no alternative.

Symptoms:

Running 3D-Apps causes the X-Server to hang up (white Screen) and leads

Hardware:

Asus V6V, Pentium M, 2GB Ram and an ATI X600M.

I'm not shure, but maybe my Bug #549601 is a duplicate of this? The Symptoms go
away when disabling KMS with"radeon.modeset=0" on grub cmd.

[Bug 553560] Re: Keyboard nearly unusable, x, w, s, #, 2 getting additional "~"

With the fixes from the last week it has gone. I will watch this one or
two days and will post again if I can be shure that it is really away.

[Bug 549601] Re: No Fullscreen-3D/Resolution switching with KMS enabled

2010-04-11 Thread Thorsten Reinbold
This Bug still exists. Tried some things again after the updates from
last week (radeon/ati) but this is still happening. Now it is even
worst: if I change the resolution and press escape, I only have garbage
on the screen and have to restart the xserver.

Kernel is 2.26.32-20

[Bug 507263] Re: Light 1px border around desktop

2010-04-11 Thread Thorsten Reinbold
This Bug is only fixed partially. The white Line is gone, but the
behaviour of the borders is still the same. Rightclick still doesn't
works on it and it is not possible to change opened Programs when the
Pointer is on the outer top or buttom Border.

The white line has been hidden, but this is only an optical workaround.
The problem obviously still exists.

[Bug 335201] Re: gnome-settings-daemon grabs my keyboard and won't let go

2010-04-01 Thread Thorsten Reinbold
Here from Lucid Beta1. I'm not shure if this is the same. This bug
hitted me after the Updates from Yesterday. Periodically keystrokes are
the effect that I have. I'm not able to surf with FF or Chromium, when
typing Text the Pages are reloading itself. Login on tty1 is not
possible, because the Password isn't typed correctly.

[Bug 553560] [NEW] Keyboard nearly unusable, x, w, s, #, 2 getting additional "~"

2010-04-01 Thread Thorsten Reinbold
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xkeyboard-config

This is on Lucid Lynx (Updated last on 01.04.)

Summary:

the System is nearly unusable since the Updates from Yesterday (31.03.)
because the Keyboard runs mad.

Symptoms:

I'm not able to log in on all tty's, because I'm not able to enter the
Password correctly. With GDM it works. When I press "x" in a Terminal
Window, i get "x~", with the characters "w,s,x,#,2" it is the same.

In gedit, while writing, this is not happening.

Browsing is nearly impossible with FF or Chromium, every time I try to
write something and hit one of the characters described above, the Page
reloads. Also, I'm not able to access my gmail account.

As mentioned above, this came after the Updates from Yesterday. I'm not
completly shure if the Package is right, but the only other Updates that
could be the reason are "hal" and "libhal1".

This Text was created with gedit and pasted in the browserwindow.
Anything else was impossble.

I've read the note about using the command "ubuntu-bug -p xkeyboard-config",
but Lucid tells me that the package is unknown and the parameter -p is
deprecated, so: sorry.

[Bug 549601] Re: No Fullscreen-3D/Resolution switching with KMS enabled

2010-03-30 Thread Thorsten Reinbold
The oldest Kernel I could test with was 2.6.32-16, the Problem occours
there too. In Karmic everything was fine. Also tried 2.6.32-18 and its
the same there.

I will test now with http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-

[Bug 537848] Re: panel background looks bad when left or right oriented

2010-03-13 Thread Thorsten Reinbold
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 534582 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/534582

@Thomas: it's wrong, this occuors with New Wave also. But there, the
Image used has a height of 204 Pixels, therefore, the effect isn't
noticed that obviously. But you will only see a small bit from the 204
Pixel scale because the Image isn't scaling. Drag, with New Wave, a
Panel to the left or right and you will see what happens.
